CASIO EFR-518 Watch User Manual

Important Information

Battery

The battery installed at the factory may discharge during shipping and storage. If you notice signs of insufficient power (e.g., dim display), the battery needs to be replaced at an authorized CASIO service center or dealer.

Water Resistance

Watches are classified by water resistance levels (I to V) according to ISO 2281. Ensure correct usage based on your watch's rating.

Rating Marking Everyday Use (Splashes, Rain) Swimming, Washing Car Scuba Diving Skin Diving
I None No No No No
II WATER RESISTANT Yes No No No
III 50 M WATER RESISTANT Yes Yes No No
IV 100 M WATER RESISTANT Yes Yes Yes No
V 200 M WATER RESISTANT Yes Yes Yes Yes

Table details water resistance levels (I-V) and their suitability for activities like splashes, swimming, and diving.

Important Notes on Water Resistance:

CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD. is not liable for any damage or third-party claims arising from the use of this watch.

Care of Your Watch

Avoid extreme temperatures, dropping, and overly tight straps (a finger should fit between the strap and wrist).

Clean with a dry soft cloth or a soft cloth dampened with a mild neutral detergent solution. Avoid volatile substances like gasoline, solvents, or spray cleaners.

Store in a dry place when not in use.

Avoid contact with gasoline, cleaning solvents, spray aerosols, adhesives, paint, etc., as these can damage gaskets, case, and finish.

Be careful when cleaning straps with silk-screened designs to avoid damaging the graphics.

Before Using Your Watch

Crown Stopper

Some models may have a protective stopper around the crown. Remove it before use.

Diagram shows the watch crown and a protective stopper that needs to be removed before use.

Crown Operations

For models with a screw-lock crown (100m and 200m water resistance): Unscrew the crown by turning it away from you to unlock it, then pull it out. Do not use excessive force. The watch is not water-resistant when the crown is unscrewed. After operations, push the crown back in and screw it to lock.

Diagram illustrates the three positions of the watch crown: normal position, first click (for date setting), and second click (for time setting).

Rotating Bezel

If your watch has a rotating bezel, align its mark with the minute hand. The bezel indicates elapsed time.

Diagram shows how to align the mark on the rotating bezel with the minute hand to track elapsed time.

Charging Your Watch

This watch uses a solar panel and a rechargeable battery charged by solar cells. Keep the watch exposed to light to maintain battery charge. When not in use, leave it in a well-lit place.

For stable operation, expose the watch to light for at least 12 hours per month.

Charging efficiency decreases if the solar panel is covered by clothing. Keep the watch uncovered as much as possible.

Low Battery Indicator

The second hand's movement indicates the battery charge level:

Diagram shows the second hand's movement: smooth 1-second intervals for normal battery, and 2-second intervals for low battery.

Charging Time

Charging times are approximate and depend on light intensity.

Light Intensity Daily Charging (for normal operation) Recharging (for full charge)
Direct Sunlight (50,000 lx) 8 min. 24 hrs.
Daylight through window (10,000 lx) 30 min. 48 hrs.
Daylight through window (cloudy) (5,000 lx) 48 min. 144 hrs.
Fluorescent Lighting (500 lx) 8 hrs. 175 hrs.

Table details approximate charging times under different light conditions.

Important Notes on Charging

Warning: The watch surface can get hot when charging in bright light. Handle with care to avoid burns. This can also happen near incandescent lamps or in a car dashboard under the sun.

The watch operates for about 6 months on a full charge if kept in darkness. However, for stable operation, charge it regularly.

The battery is protected from overcharging; charging stops automatically when full.

Setting Current Time and Date

Setting Current Time

1. Pull the crown out to the second click.
2. Turn the crown to set the time.
3. Push the crown back to its normal position.

Note: Pay attention to AM/PM settings. To set accurately, advance the minute hand 4-5 minutes past the desired time, then set it back to the exact minute.

The 24-hour hand indicates the current hour and completes one rotation per day.

Setting Date

1. Pull the crown out to the first click.
2. Turn the crown to set the date.
3. Push the crown back to its normal position.

Note: The date indicator changes up to 31. Manually adjust for months with fewer days. To ensure correct date switching at midnight, do not change the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM.

Using the Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time in 1/5-second increments up to 59 minutes and 59.8 seconds.

Elapsed Time Measurement

Start: Press button A.
Stop: Press button A.
Restart: Press button A.
Reset: Press button B.

Diagram illustrates stopwatch operations using buttons A and B for elapsed time measurement.

Split Time Measurement

Start: Press button A.
Split: Press button B.
Un-split: Press button B.
Stop: Press button A.
Reset: Press button B.

Diagram illustrates starting, splitting, un-splitting, stopping, and resetting for split time measurement.

Displaying Split and Finish Times

Start: Press button A.
Split: Press button B.
First Finisher: Press button B.
Second Finisher: Press button B.
Un-split: Press button B.
Reset: Press button B.

Diagram shows how to record the times of two finishers using the stopwatch.

Note: Stopwatch hands measure elapsed time for up to 60 minutes, then stop at the 12 o'clock position. The stopwatch does not function when the battery is low (second hand moves in 2-second intervals). If the battery level drops during operation, the stopwatch stops.

Correcting Stopwatch Hand Home Positions

If stopwatch hands do not return to zero after resetting:

1. Pull the crown out to the second click.
2. Press and hold button A for about 3 seconds until the stopwatch minute hand starts moving.
3. If the hand doesn't move to the 12 o'clock position, use button B to move it. Hold B for rapid movement.
4. Press and hold button A again for about 3 seconds until the 1/5-second hand starts moving.
5. If the hand doesn't move to the 12 o'clock position, use button B to move it. Hold B for rapid movement.
6. Push the crown back to its normal position.

Diagram shows the crown positions and buttons A and B used for hand correction.

Warning: Current time setting stops when the crown is pulled out. Reset the current time after correcting stopwatch hands.

Resetting to Factory Settings

If the watch malfunctions despite a full battery charge:

1. Pull the crown out to the second click.
2. Press and hold buttons A and B simultaneously for about 3 seconds.
3. Push the crown back to its normal position. The second hand will start moving.

If the second hand moves in 2-second intervals, charge the watch. If the stopwatch hands do not return to the 12 o'clock position, perform the "Correcting Stopwatch Hand Home Positions" procedure.

Note: After a factory reset, you must reset the current time and date.
