Complete Kit
The complete kit includes the intake system components, air filters, and a restore kit for maintenance.
Installation Steps
Step 1: Complete Stock Intake
Description: The image shows the stock air intake system installed in the engine bay of a BMW. This is the starting point for the installation.
Step 2: Disconnect Vacuum Line
Description: A hand is shown disconnecting a vacuum line from the stock air intake assembly. The line is pulled back.
Disconnect vacuum line and pull back.
Step 3: Unclip Air Box Lid
Description: A hand is shown unclipping the upper half of the stock air box. This action allows access to remove the lid and the air filter.
Unclip upper half of air box to remove lid and filter.
Step 4: Loosen Battery Cable Mount
Description: A hand is shown pulling back a rubber mount attached to the battery cable. Pliers may be used if necessary. This action is to allow the stock air intake clamp to be loosened, as noted for Step 5B.
Pull back rubber mount attached to battery cable. Use pliers if necessary. This will allow stock clamp to be loosened. (To be done in step 5B.)
Step 5: Loosen Air Box Clamps
Description: Two points (A and B) are indicated on the stock air box assembly. Point A shows a hand loosening a clamp closest to the radiator with a 1/4" nut driver. Point B shows a hand loosening a clamp closest to the firewall with a 1/4" nut driver. The clamps are to be left in position.
A) Loosen clamp closest to the radiator with 1/4" nut driver. B) Loosen clamp closest to fire wall with 1/4" nut driver. Leave clamps in position.
Step 6: Remove Complete Air Box
Description: A hand is shown lifting and removing the entire stock air box assembly from the vehicle's engine bay.
Remove complete air box from vehicle.
Step 7: Remove Rubber Grommets
Description: A hand is shown carefully removing three rubber grommets from the removed stock air box. An arrow indicates the direction of removal for one grommet.
Remove the 3 rubber grommets from the air box. (To be used in step 9.)
Step 8: Attach Trim Seals to New Housing
Description: Two parts of the new intake housing are shown. Point A indicates attaching a 7/16" trim seal to the top edge of the housing. Point B indicates attaching a rubber edge trim seal to the ram air cut-out on the housing.
A) Attach 7/16" trim seal to top of housing. B) Attach rubber edge trim seal to ram air cut out on housing.
Step 9: Install Rubber Grommets on New Housing
Description: The new intake housing is shown. Three circular locations are highlighted where the rubber grommets removed in Step 7 are to be installed.
Install rubber grommets from step 7 on new housing.
Step 10: Install New Intake Tube
Description: The new intake tube is being installed into the vehicle. It is shown being pulled back towards the driver's side fender. The clamps are not to be tightened yet.
Install new tube into vehicle and pull back towards driver fender. Do not tighten clamps.
Step 11: Install New Housing
Description: A hand is shown placing the new intake housing into its factory position in the engine bay.
Install housing into factory postion.
Step 12: Seat Housing and Align Insert
Description: A hand is shown pushing down on the new housing to ensure the grommets seat properly. The image also indicates aligning a threaded insert with a hole on the housing.
Push down housing allowing grommets to seat. Align threaded insert with hole on housing.
Step 13: Install Screw and Washers
Description: A screw, wavy washer, and flat washer are shown. A hand is using a 10mm socket or wrench to install the screw. Another hand is shown tightening clamps to the tube with a 1/4" nut driver.
Install screw, washer and wavy washer provided, and tighten with 10mm socket or wrench. Tighten clamps to tube with 1/4" nut driver.
Step 14: Install Air Filters and Connect Vacuum Line
Description: Two blue aFe air filters are being installed into the new intake housing. A hand is shown tightening them with a 5/16" nut driver. A vacuum line is also being connected.
Install air filters and tighten with 5/16" nut driver and connect vacuum line.
Step 15: Installation Complete
Description: The new aFe POWER intake system is fully installed in the engine bay, featuring the blue air filters. The engine cover is back in place.
Your installation is now complete. Please check all clamps and hoses periodically and tighten. Thank you for choosing aFe!
Important Notes
Filter Cleaning and Re-oiling
When cleaning your aFe filter, use only aFe's recommended cleaning products:
- Restore Kit (aFe P/N: 90-50001 blue oil aerosol)
- Restore Kit (aFe P/N: 90-50501 blue squeeze bottle oil)
- Pro Dry S™ cleaner (aFe P/N: 90-59999)
For filter replacement:
- Pro-5R™ P/N: 24-90054 (black w/blue media)
- Pro Dry S™ P/N: 21-90054 (black w/white media)
- Pro-GUARD 7™ media P/N: 72-35008 (black w/gold media)
- Pre-filters: 28-10011 (yellow), 28-10012 (red), 28-10013 (black), 28-10014 (blue)
