Removal Instructions
Steps 1-4: Removing Stock Intake
Figure A Description: An image shows the engine bay of a Ford F-150. The stock air intake system is visible, with numbered circles indicating points of interest for removal.
- Disconnect the Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor plug from the stock airbox (indicated by '1').
- Loosen the OE intake clamps using an 8mm nut driver from the left and right side runners (indicated by '2').
- Unclamp the top portion of the OE airbox (indicated by '3').
- Remove the OE intake and the top portion of the OE airbox by pulling straight up and out of the vehicle.
Step 5: Removing Wire Harness Clips
Figure B Description: A close-up view shows the back edge of the lower airbox. Numbered circles '5' point to plastic wire harness clips.
- Carefully remove plastic wire harness clips from the back edge of the lower airbox.
Installation Instructions
Steps 6-7: Installing Housing and Filters
Figure C Description: An image shows the engine bay with the new aFe POWER intake housing being installed. The housing has two large filter openings. The image also shows the individual components laid out, including the housing (C1/C2), tubes (B1, B2, B3, B4), filters (A1, A2), clamps (G, H, I, J), and other fittings.
- Install the aFe housing and fasten clips.
- Insert filters and place clamps loosely.
Steps 8-9: Installing MAP Sensor
Figure D Description: A close-up shows a hand removing a sensor from a black intake tube with a quarter-turn motion. Another image shows a hand inserting a sensor into a different black intake tube, with a grommet visible inside the tube for support.
- Remove the MAP sensor from the OE intake by turning it 1/4 turn counter-clockwise.
- Install the MAP sensor on the rear aFe intake tube using the provided grommet. The grommet can be held inside the tube to give support while inserting.
Steps 10-14: Connecting Components and Trim
Figure E Description: An image shows the fully installed aFe POWER cold air intake system in the engine bay. The aluminum intake tubes, housing, and filters are visible. Numbered circles indicate connection points.
- Install the small straight coupling on the cross-over tube, install clamps, but do not tighten.
- Fit tubes into the remaining couplers. Adjust for best fit and tighten all clamps.
- Connect sensor harness.
- Install edge trim on housing if no cover is to be used.
- Remove trim if using optional cover.
NOTE: Proceed to the following pages for vent insert installation on V6-3.5L (tt) models.
Steps 15-20: Vent Insert Installation (V6-3.5L (tt) Models Only)
These procedures are for V6-3.5L (tt) models only and are not necessary for V6-2.7L (tt) models.
Step 15: Locate Driver's Side Turbo Inlet Tube
Figure F Description: An image shows the vent system components, including tubes and fittings. Arrows indicate 'Vent fitting on valve cover', 'Vent fitting on tube', 'Turbo inlet, passenger side', and 'Turbo inlet, drivers side'. The procedure is shown with the components off the vehicle for clarity.
- Locate the original equipment (OE) plastic tube feeding the driver's side turbo inlet.
Step 16: Locate Valve Cover Vent Tube
Figure G Description: A close-up shows a vent fitting on a black tube. An arrow points to 'Vent fitting'.
- Locate the valve cover vent tube that feeds into the driver's side turbo inlet. It is not necessary to remove the engine cover.
Step 17: Disconnect Vent Fitting
Figure H Description: A hand is shown applying pressure to a tab on a vent fitting connector to release it from a turbo inlet tube. An arrow indicates 'Move tab to the left'. The text notes the presence of a sensor and wire harness on this tube.
- Note the release clip on the vent tube connectors. Apply pressure against the exposed tail and pull the vent fitting off of the turbo inlet tube. It is not necessary to disconnect at the valve cover end. There is a sensor and wire harness on this vent tube. Do not damage or remove these components.
Step 18: Install Vent Fitting
Figure I Description: An image shows a vent fitting being inserted into a turbo inlet tube. An arrow indicates 'Slash cut faces turbo inlet'. Another detail shows the vent insert fully seated against the shoulder.
- Insert the vent fitting with the slash cut facing the turbo inlet. It should not be a loose fit. It is direction dependent and must not rotate once installed.
Steps 19-20: Reconnect and Finalize
Figure J Description: A close-up shows a hand reconnecting the vent fitting to the turbo inlet tube. An arrow indicates 'Reconnect vent fitting'. The text mentions that it will snap over without releasing the clip and to pull slightly to confirm installation. It also provides instructions for clearing codes and retightening.
- Reconnect the vent fitting. It will snap over without having to release the plastic clip. Pull up slightly to confirm installation.
- Installation is complete. Any codes can be cleared with a code reader or by disconnecting the battery (note: this will reset radio presets). If removal of the vent insert is required, it can be pulled out with internal snap ring pliers.
NOTE: Retighten all connections after approximately 100-200 miles.
Place the included CARB EO sticker on or near the device on a smooth, clean surface. EO identification is required to pass the smog inspection.
