Installation Procedure
Step 1-2: Remove Original Equipment (OE) Intake Tube
Refer to Figure A.
Step 1: Using a 10mm socket and driver, remove the three screws (labeled '1') securing the OE intake to the vehicle.
Step 2: Using an 8mm nut driver, loosen the two clamps (labeled '2') on the OE intake tube.
Description of Figure A:
Figure A shows the engine bay of a Jeep vehicle. It highlights the original equipment intake system, with arrows and numbers indicating points for removal: '1' points to three screws holding the intake assembly, and '2' points to two clamps on the intake tube.
Step 3-5: Disconnect Sensors and Lines
Refer to Figure B.
Step 3: Disconnect the Crank Case Vent (CCV) line connected to the intake tube (labeled '3') by pushing on the grey clip and sliding the tube off the fitting.
Step 4: Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor (labeled '4').
Step 5: Remove the attaching clips for the IAT sensor harness and the coolant line (labeled '5') and move the harness out of the way.
Description of Figure B:
Figure B shows a closer view of the engine bay, focusing on the intake system connections. It indicates the CCV line ('3'), the IAT sensor ('4'), and clips for the IAT sensor harness and coolant line ('5') that need to be disconnected or removed.
Step 6-8: Remove OE Intake Tube and Housing
Refer to Figure C.
Step 6: Remove the OE intake tube from the vehicle.
Step 7: Remove the OE housing from the vehicle by lifting straight upward. If rubber grommets detach from the housing, reinsert them into the mounting bracket holes.
Step 8: If the attaching clips on the IAT sensor harness are bent, repair them to match the example shown in the accompanying image.
Description of Figure C:
Figure C illustrates the process of removing the OE intake components. It includes a close-up of a clip for the IAT sensor harness and a view of the engine bay showing the OE housing being lifted out.
Step 9: Install CCV Fitting
Refer to Figure D.
Step 9: Install the new CCV fitting (labeled '6') into the threaded insert on the aFe POWER intake tube. Note: Use Liquid Loctite or Teflon tape for a proper seal. Do not over-tighten. This fitting is aluminum and can be scratched by serrated pliers.
Description of Figure D:
Figure D shows a close-up of the aFe POWER intake tube. It details the installation of the CCV fitting (labeled '6') into a threaded insert.
Step 10-13: Install IAT Sensor and Fitting
Refer to Figure E.
Step 10: Remove the IAT Sensor from the factory intake tube by lifting the locking tab, rotating the sensor a quarter-turn counterclockwise, and pulling it straight out.
Step 11: Install the large rubber grommet into the large hole on the aFe POWER intake tube.
Step 12: Install the supplied IAT Fitting into the large rubber grommet.
Step 13: Install the IAT Sensor (labeled '7') into the IAT Fitting. Rotate it clockwise a quarter-turn to lock it into place, ensuring the locking tab clicks past the retainer. Note: The orientation of the sensor is not critical.
Description of Figure E:
Figure E shows the aFe POWER intake tube. It illustrates the installation of the rubber grommet, the IAT fitting, and finally the IAT sensor (labeled '7') into the fitting.
Step 14-16: Prepare Intake Tube
Refer to Figure F.
Step 14: Remove the two rubber mounting grommets and steel sleeves from the factory intake tube.
Step 15: Install the two rubber mounting grommets and steel sleeves (labeled '8') into the aFe POWER intake tube as shown.
Step 16: Install the bellows coupling (labeled '9') onto the end of the tube and preinstall the two clamps onto the coupling. Do not tighten the clamps yet.
Description of Figure F:
Figure F displays the aFe POWER intake tube. It shows where to install the rubber mounting grommets and steel sleeves (labeled '8') and the bellows coupling (labeled '9') with clamps.
Step 17-20: Install Air Filter Housing
Refer to Figure G.
Step 17: Remove the rubber mounting grommet and steel sleeve from the factory intake housing.
Step 18: Install the rubber mounting grommet and steel sleeve (labeled '10') into the aFe POWER intake housing as shown.
Step 19: Install the trim seal (labeled '11') around the top of the housing. Press down firmly to ensure a good fit.
Step 20: Install the aFe POWER air filter into the housing and loosely install the clamp over the filter flange.
Description of Figure G:
Figure G shows the aFe POWER air filter housing. It indicates the installation of the rubber mounting grommet and steel sleeve (labeled '10') and the trim seal (labeled '11') around the top edge.
Step 21-23: Mount Housing to Vehicle
Refer to Figure H.
Step 21: Install the housing into the vehicle, ensuring the factory intake scoop (labeled '12') passes into the housing under the air filter.
Step 22: Press down firmly on the housing to lock the pegs into the rubber grommets underneath.
Step 23: Secure the housing to the fender with the factory screw (labeled '13').
Description of Figure H:
Figure H illustrates the installation of the air filter housing into the vehicle. It shows the alignment with the factory intake scoop ('12') and the securing screw ('13').
Step 24-26: Install Intake Tube and Tighten Clamps
Refer to Figure I.
Step 24: Install the aFe POWER intake tube into the air filter first, then slide the coupler over the throttle body.
Step 25: Rotate the tube into position so that the mounting tabs sit flat on the fan shroud mounting brackets.
Step 26: Tighten all clamps at this time.
Description of Figure I:
Figure I shows the aFe POWER intake tube connected to the air filter and the throttle body, positioned correctly in the engine bay.
Step 27-28: Reroute and Connect IAT Harness
Refer to Figure J.
Step 27: Reroute the IAT harness so it cannot be pinched or caught by the cooling fan. Use zip ties to secure the coolant hose and wire harness if preferred.
Step 28: Connect the IAT harness to the IAT sensor on the intake tube.
Description of Figure J:
Figure J shows a close-up of the IAT harness and coolant hose, illustrating how to reroute and secure them to prevent damage.
Step 29-30: Secure Tube and Reconnect CCV Line
Refer to Figure K.
Step 29: Secure the intake tube to the fan shroud using the two factory screws (labeled '15').
Step 30: Reconnect the CCV line (labeled '16') to the new CCV Fitting on the aFe POWER intake tube.
Description of Figure K:
Figure K shows the intake tube secured to the fan shroud with screws ('15') and the CCV line ('16') being reconnected to the fitting.
Step 31: Final Check
Refer to Figure L.
Step 31: Check that all components are tight and secure. Your installation is now complete. Thank you for choosing aFe POWER!
Note: Check all screws, clamps, and connectors are secure after 100-200 miles.
