Also shows a laptop connecting wirelessly.]
Step 6: Configure Router
Open a web browser. The browser will automatically connect to the router and guide you through the setup. Refer to the instructions on the other side of this document. [Diagram: Shows a web browser window on a laptop.]
Pre-set Wireless Security
Your device has a unique Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and network key (password). For maximum security, each device is equipped with a uniquely generated default SSID and network key (like a serial number), found on the product label on the bottom of the device. NETGEAR recommends not changing these default settings. If you do change them, the original label information will become invalid.
Record your wireless connection pre-set settings here:
- Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID): _________________________
- Network Key (Password): _________________________
If you need to retrieve or change your password, enter http://www.routerlogin.net in your browser, log in with the default username (admin) and password (password). To retrieve your password, select Wireless Settings. [Diagram: Shows the label on the bottom of the router with fields for SSID, password, etc.]
Connecting Wireless Devices to the Router
You can expand your wireless network to include wireless computers and other devices manually or using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS).
Manual Method
- Open the utility for managing wireless connections on the device you want to connect (e.g., iPhone, laptop, computer, game console). This utility will search for available wireless networks in the area.
- Find and select the NETGEAR device's pre-set wireless network name (SSID). The pre-set SSID is found on the product label on the bottom of the router. (Note: If you changed the network name during setup, search for that name.)
- Enter the pre-set password (or your new password if changed), then click Connect.
- Add other devices using the same steps (1-3).
Using the WPS Function
If your wireless device supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), you may be prompted to press the WPS button on the router instead of entering a password. In this case:
- Press the WPS button on the router. ? [WPS Button]
- Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on the client device or follow its WPS setup instructions. The device will then connect to the router.
- Repeat this procedure to add other WPS wireless devices.
Note: WPS does not support the WEP security method. Connecting a client device using WEP security via WPS will not work.
Troubleshooting
Web pages are not displayed in the browser.
- Ensure your computer is connected to one of the four LAN Ethernet ports or wirelessly to the router.
- Verify the router is powered on and functioning correctly. The wireless connection LED should be lit.
- Close and reopen your browser to ensure it's not caching old pages.
- Enter http://routerlogin.net in the address bar.
- If your computer has a static (fixed) IP address (not typical), configure it to obtain an IP address automatically from the router.
