Basic Crochet Stitch Diagram
1. Stitch (Abbreviated 'st'): Create a slip knot by looping yarn around two fingers, pulling the tail halfway through the loop. Insert the crochet hook into the second loop and gently pull the loop taut onto the hook.
2. Chain Stitch (Abbreviated 'ch'): The basis for all crochet, also called a foundation chain.
3. Slip Stitch (Abbreviated 'sl st'): The flattest and smallest crochet stitch. Used to join ends of a foundation chain to form a ring.
4. Single Crochet (Abbreviated 'sc'): The most fundamental stitch. Gather yarn with hook, draw loop through stitch. Wrap yarn around hook, pull through two loops, leaving one loop on hook.
5. Increase (Abbreviated 'inc'): Add a stitch by making 2 single crochets in the same stitch/knot.
6. Decrease (Abbreviated 'dec'): Subtract a stitch. Make a half sc (2 loops on hook), then a half sc in the next stitch (3 loops on hook). Pull yarn through all 3 loops.
7. Magic Ring: An adjustable starting round for amigurumi. Form a loop, insert hook, grab yarn, pull through ring, chain 1. Work stitches into the ring. Pull tail end to close the ring. Slip stitch into the first stitch to complete the round.
8. Round (Abbreviated 'Rd'): Continues stitches in a circle. Each round starts with a chain stitch (ch) and ends with a slip stitch (sl st).
9. Sewing: Connect parts by threading yarn through stitches with a plastic needle.
