Anko Crochet Ghost Decoration Kit Instruction Manual

This manual provides instructions for creating crochet ghost and pumpkin decorations.

What's in the Box

Basic Crochet Stitch Diagram

Learn the fundamental crochet stitches used in this kit.

1. Stitch (Abbreviated 'st') - Slip knot

To create a slip knot: Loop the yarn around two fingers, leaving a tail. Pull the tail halfway through the loop. Insert the crochet hook into the second loop and gently pull the loop taut onto the crochet hook.

Step 1: [Yarn wrapped around two fingers, forming a loop]. Step 2: [Hook inserted into the second loop, grabbing the yarn]. Step 3: [Yarn pulled through the loop to create the knot on the hook].

2. Chain Stitch (Abbreviated 'ch')

The chain stitch is the basis for all crochet, also called a foundation chain.

Step 1: [Hook with yarn, ready to pull through the loop on the hook]. Step 2: [Yarn pulled through the loop on the hook, creating the first chain stitch]. Step 3: [A series of chain stitches formed].

3. Slip Stitch (Abbreviated 'sl st')

The slip stitch is the flattest or smallest crochet stitch. Use this stitch by slip-stitching the ends of a foundation chain to form a ring.

Step 1: [Hook inserted into a stitch or chain loop]. Step 2: [Yarn pulled through the stitch and then through the loop on the hook]. Step 3: [The completed slip stitch, lying flat].

4. Single Crochet (Abbreviated 'sc')

The single crochet is the most fundamental stitch. Gather the yarn with your crochet hook and draw up a loop through the stitch. Wrap the yarn around the hook and pull it through two loops, leaving one loop on the hook.

Step 1: [Hook inserted into the stitch, yarn pulled up through the stitch (2 loops on hook)]. Step 2: [Yarn wrapped around the hook]. Step 3: [Yarn pulled through the first loop (2 loops on hook)]. Step 4: [Yarn pulled through the remaining two loops (1 loop on hook)].

5. Increase (Abbreviated 'inc')

Increase stitches by adding a stitch at the beginning of the row. For example, make 2 sc in the same knot.

Step 1: [Hook inserted into a stitch]. Step 2: [Yarn pulled up through the stitch (2 loops on hook)]. Step 3: [Yarn wrapped around the hook]. Step 4: [Yarn pulled through the first loop (2 loops on hook)]. Step 5: [Yarn wrapped around the hook again]. Step 6: [Yarn pulled through the remaining two loops (1 loop on hook)]. This completes one of the two stitches in the same original stitch.

6. Decrease (Abbreviated 'dec')

Decrease stitches by subtracting one stitch in a row. Make a half sc (at which point there are 2 loops on the hook), then crochet a half sc in the next knot (at which point there are 3 loops on the hook). Finally, wind the yarn through all 3 loops to finish a decrease.

Step 1: [Hook inserted into the first stitch, yarn pulled up (2 loops on hook)]. Step 2: [Hook inserted into the next stitch, yarn pulled up (3 loops on hook)]. Step 3: [Yarn wrapped around the hook and pulled through all three loops].

7. Double Crochet (Abbreviated 'dc')

The double crochet is one of the most common stitches and is about twice as tall as a single crochet. Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook. Insert the hook into the next stitch loop. Wrap the yarn with your crochet hook and pull the loop through the stitch (three loops on hook). Wrap the yarn around the hook again and pull it through the first two loops (two loops on hook). Wrap the yarn around the hook again and bring it through the remaining two loops to leave only one loop on the hook. Complete the row.

Step 1: [Yarn wrapped around the hook]. Step 2: [Hook inserted into the stitch, yarn pulled up through the stitch (3 loops on hook)]. Step 3: [Yarn wrapped around the hook and pulled through the first two loops (2 loops on hook)]. Step 4: [Yarn wrapped around the hook and pulled through the remaining two loops (1 loop on hook)].

8. Insert Your Hook Into 2nd Back Hoop

This technique is used for specific stitches, often for creating a flat edge or a particular texture.

Step 1: [Hook inserted into the second back loop of a stitch]. Step 2: [Yarn pulled through the back loop]. Step 3: [The resulting stitch].

9. Fasten Off (Abbreviated 'F/O')

Fasten off by pulling the yarn through the end stitch and pulling it taut. Cut off.

Step 1: [Yarn pulled through the final loop on the hook, creating a long tail]. Step 2: [Yarn pulled taut to secure the knot]. Step 3: [Yarn tail cut].

10. Sewing

Generally used for the connection of 2 parts. The plastic needle strap yarns are threaded in turn through the knots where the two parts need to be connected.

If details need to be stitched onto the finished product (such as mouth, eyes, etc.), use the plastic needle and thread to create small stitches to represent facial features etc.

Step 1: [Plastic needle threaded with yarn]. Step 2: [Needle passing through crochet fabric to create a stitch]. Step 3: [A small stitch being formed].

11. Weaving In/Invisible Close

Cut the yarn, leaving a long yarn end. Draw the end through the final loop on the hook and thread it onto a yarn needle. Weave your needle through the front loops only on the last round and pull tight. Weave remaining yarn into your piece.

Please note that all yarns need to be hidden behind the stitch.

Step 1: [Yarn end threaded onto a yarn needle]. Step 2: [Needle weaving through the front loops of the last round]. Step 3: [Yarn pulled through to tighten and close the gap]. Step 4: [The finished, neat edge where yarn was woven in].

12. Round (Abbreviated 'Rd')

This continues the chain stitches into a circle. Each round starts with 'ch' and ends with 'sl st'.

13. Magic Ring

A magic ring is an adjustable starting round used for crochet amigurumi patterns, granny squares, and other patterns that work in crochet rounds. Form a loop with your yarn. Loop the yarn around your fingers, insert the hook through the loop. Slide the crochet hook under the right piece of yarn from right to left, use the hook tip to grab onto a left yarn, pull the yarn through the ring, make a chain stitch. Put your first row of stitches into the ring. For example, make 6 sc. Pull yarn ends. Hold the working end of the yarn taut while gently pulling down on the tail end. As you do this, the stitches should close together at the center, completing your magic ring. Finally, slip stitch into the first stitch. To close this round and start the remainder of your pattern, make a slip stitch into the first stitch of your ring, and proceed to the next round.

Step 1: [Yarn forming a loop around two fingers]. Step 2: [Hook inserted through the loop, grabbing the yarn tail]. Step 3: [Yarn pulled through the loop, creating a chain stitch]. Step 4: [First row of stitches (e.g., 6 sc) being worked into the ring]. Step 5: [Pulling the yarn tail to close the ring]. Step 6: [The stitches are now tightly gathered in the center]. Step 7: [Slip stitch to join the first stitch to the last, completing the round]. Step 8: [The magic ring is formed, ready for the next round].
