FireAngel FA6611, FA6615, FA6620 Optical Smoke Alarm & FA6720 Heat Alarm - User Manual

This manual provides instructions for the FireAngel FA6611, FA6615, and FA6620 optical smoke alarms, and the FA6720 heat alarm.

Optical smoke alarms (FA6611, FA6615, FA6620) are suitable for detecting slow-smouldering fires. They may be subject to nuisance alarms from steam and should not be placed near bathrooms. For earliest warning, smoke and heat alarms are recommended in rooms with temperatures between 4°C and 38°C. Prolonged exposure outside these temperatures reduces product life.

The FA6720 heat alarm is specified for Class A1 detection and sounds a warning when ambient temperature reaches 54°C to 65°C. For best protection, heat alarms should be part of a system including smoke alarms.

Check local building and fire regulations for compliance.

WARNING: Children may not wake to fire alarm tones. Ensure children are never left alone. Families should have and rehearse a fire escape plan. The immediate priority during a fire is to wake sleeping children and evacuate all occupants safely. Contact the fire and rescue service without delay.

1. Positioning

In which room should the alarm be installed?

Smoke alarms (FA6611, FA6615, FA6620) are suitable for landings, hallways, bedrooms, living rooms, and dining rooms. The FA6611 Escape Light Alarm is advisable for corridors along escape routes.

The heat alarm (FA6720) is suitable for kitchens, garages, and lofts.

These alarms are suitable for mobile homes and caravans but not for non-residential, commercial, or industrial applications.

Where in the room should the alarm be installed?

Smoke Alarms: Site at least 300mm from light fittings and walls, ideally centrally. Position no more than 600mm vertically below the highest point in the room. If wall-mounted, the top of the detection element should be between 150mm and 300mm below the ceiling and at least 300mm from any neighbouring wall.

Heat Alarm: Install no greater than 5.3m from the farthest wall, no greater than 5.3m from a door to a room where fire might start, and no greater than 5.3m from the next heat or smoke alarm. Site at least 300mm from light fittings and walls. Heat alarms should not be fitted on a wall.

Ensure alarm locations comply with BS 5839: Part 6 or relevant Building Regulations.

2. Installation

Step 1: FA6611 and FA6615 Replaceable Battery Alarms

If the alarm requires AA batteries, remove the base plate by twisting anti-clockwise and insert batteries (+ to +). This activates the alarm.

Step 2: Baseplate Installation - All Alarms (FA6611, FA6615, FA6620, FA6720)

  1. Drill holes into the ceiling (or wall) using the provided template and secure the baseplate with the screws.
  2. Push and twist the alarm clockwise onto the baseplate.

Note: For FA6620 and FA6720, the alarm activates upon installation on the baseplate. For FA6611 and FA6615, installing batteries activates the alarm.

After activation, the red LED on the front should flash approximately once every 40 seconds. The test sound pattern is 3 beeps, a 1.5-second pause, then 3 beeps, with the LED flashing once per second.

Press the [Test Button] to test the alarm. It will sound at a reduced volume. The FA6611 will also shine its escape light. Double-press the [Test Button] to hear the alarm at full volume* (85dB at 3m).

3. Maintenance

Test the alarm monthly by pressing the central [Test Button].

Vacuum the alarm every 3 months.

Do not use cleaners or solvents.

Do not paint the alarm.

Replace the alarm every 10 years.

Do not use any test method other than described in this manual. Do not tamper with the alarm, as this could cause electric shock or malfunction.

4. Low Battery Warning

When the battery is low, the alarm will 'chirp' once and the red operational LED will flash once every 40 seconds.

For FA6611 and FA6615 Replaceable Battery Alarms

  1. Carefully turn the alarm anti-clockwise to remove it from the baseplate.
  2. Replace the batteries immediately (within 30 days). Recommended batteries: Duracell AA MN1500 Alkaline, GP AA GN15A Alkaline, Energizer AA L91 Lithium.
  3. Always test the alarm after replacing the batteries.

For FA6620 and FA6720 Sealed Battery Alarms

  1. Carefully turn the alarm anti-clockwise to remove it from the baseplate.
  2. Replace the alarm immediately (within 30 days). If the device is still under warranty, contact Technical Support.

5. Fault Indication

If there is a fault, the alarm will 'chirp' twice and flash twice every 40 seconds.

If the alarm is still under warranty, contact Technical Support. If it is no longer under warranty, replace it immediately.

Troubleshooting Guide

  • If your smoke/heat alarm does not sound during testing: Check activation, allow settling time, double-press [Test Button] for full volume, wait 15 minutes if silenced, or replace battery (FA6611/FA6615).
  • If your smoke/heat alarm activates in the event of a known false alarm: Check location and clean the alarm.
  • If your smoke/heat alarm sounds unusual or 'chirps' intermittently: Check location, clean the alarm, and ensure the chirping is from this device.
  • If you experience frequent unwanted alarms: Check location and clean the alarm.
  • If a fault or End of Life is indicated: Replace the alarm immediately.
  • If the light on the FA6611 fails to illuminate: Check warranty status and contact Technical Support, or replace the alarm immediately if out of warranty.

6. Silence Feature

In the event of a fire, your alarm will sound 3 beeps continuously and the LED will flash once per second. The FA6611 Escape Light Alarm will illuminate continuously.

To temporarily silence the alarm (e.g., for nuisance alarms from cooking fumes), press the [Test Button]. The alarm will silence for 10 minutes, and the red LED will continue to flash. The alarm will automatically return to full sensitivity after 10 minutes.

NEVER IGNORE ANY ALARM. If an alarm is sounding, it warns of a potentially hazardous situation. Ignoring it may result in injury or death. If unsure of the source, evacuate everyone immediately.

Note: For FA6720 Heat Alarms, after sounding for 30 minutes, the audible alarm signal will increase the pause between alerts (approx. 12 seconds) to save power, while the LED continues to flash.

7. Sleep Easy™ Feature

If a low battery 'chirp' occurs at night, you can silence it so it does not disturb sleep. Press the [Test Button]. The alarm will silence for 8 hours, and the red LED will continue to flash.

Take action to replace the alarm or batteries the next day (see Low Battery Warning section). Your alarm will still detect smoke (or heat) during Sleep Easy mode, but you must replace the alarm or batteries within 30 days.

  • For FA6611 or FA6615: Replace the batteries as soon as possible. The Sleep Easy feature will be disabled for 30 days after battery replacement.
  • For FA6620 or FA6720: Replace the alarm. Contact Technical Support if the device is still under warranty.

Note: You can silence a low battery 'chirp' a maximum of 10 times. Alarms indicating a fault or end of life cannot be silenced.
