FireAngel SCB10 Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm User Manual
Brand: FireAngel
Introduction
This optical smoke alarm is suitable for detecting slow smouldering fires. It can be subject to nuisance alarms from steam and should not be placed near bathrooms. For the earliest warning, this combination smoke and CO alarm is recommended for all rooms where the temperature is between 0°C (32°F) and 40°C (104°F). Prolonged exposure to temperatures outside these stated limits will reduce product life. Check local building and fire regulations for compliance. This alarm must be installed by a competent person. It is not intended for non-residential, commercial, or industrial applications.

1. Positioning
The combination smoke and CO alarm is suitable for landings, hallways, bedrooms, living rooms, and dining rooms. Aim to install the alarm in a bedroom or hallway close to the sleeping area. If multiple sleeping areas exist, locate additional alarms in each.
If located near a fuel-burning appliance, position it at least 3 meters from the potential CO source. Common CO sources include: oil and gas boilers, portable generators, oil or solid fuel cookers, gas or paraffin heaters, barbecues, clogged chimneys, wood or gas fireplaces, and any gas or fossil fuel-burning appliance.
Position the alarm at least 300mm from light fittings and walls, ideally centrally in the room. It should be no more than 600mm vertically below the highest point in the room.
If mounting on a wall, the top of the alarm must be between 150mm and 300mm below the ceiling, and at least 300mm from a neighboring wall.
Diagram Description: Illustrates recommended placement distances for ceiling and wall mounting. For ceiling mounting, place centrally, at least 300mm from walls and light fittings. For wall mounting, position the top of the alarm 150-300mm from the ceiling and at least 300mm from any side wall.
2. Installation
WARNING! To prevent injury, this device must be securely attached to the ceiling/wall in accordance with the installation instructions.
- Fit the baseplate to the ceiling or wall using the provided screws.
- Push and twist the alarm clockwise onto the baseplate to activate the alarm.
- Press the Test / [button]. The alarm will sound at a reduced volume.
Press and hold the Test / [button] for 10 seconds. The alarm will sound at the normal alarm volume of 85dB.
The alarm must be installed on the baseplate to activate. After activation, LEDs will flash briefly and the device will beep. The green LED will flash for 40 seconds, then approximately once every 40 seconds to show it is active.
The alarm test sound pattern is 3 long beeps, followed by 1.5 seconds of silence, then 4 short beeps, followed by 5 seconds of silence, repeating. The red LED flashes the same pattern.
This CO alarm is not a substitute for proper installation, use, and maintenance of fuel-burning appliances or chimney sweeping.
3. Maintenance
Only use the test method described in this manual. Do not tamper with the alarm due to risk of electric shock or malfunction.
- Test the alarm every month.
- Vacuum your alarm every 3 months.
- To prevent sensor contamination, do not paint the alarm, use cleaners, aerosol sprays, or solvents.
- Replace the alarm every 10 years.
Replace the alarm immediately if it indicates "End of Life" (3 chirps and amber LED flashes every 40 seconds). An "End of Life" alarm may not detect fire or CO leaks.
4. Smoke Alarm Awareness
Never ignore any alarm. If the cause is unclear, always assume it is a real fire. The smoke alarm takes precedence if both smoke and carbon monoxide are present.
Alarm Signal Pattern: 3 long beeps followed by 1.5 seconds of silence. The red LED flashes the same pattern. The alarm sounds at a lower volume for approximately 10 seconds, then increases to 85dB.
In case of fire:
- GET OUT IMMEDIATELY. Stay low, cover your mouth with a cloth, and crawl to safety.
- Before opening doors, feel them for heat. If hot, use an alternative exit.
- STAY OUT of the building. Never go back inside.
- GET THE FIRE BRIGADE OUT. Call the emergency number from outside the building.
A prepared escape plan is vital. Ensure everyone knows the alarm signal, keep doors/windows closed (except for escape), plan a meeting place, practice the plan, draw a floor plan, and conduct fire drills.
5. CO Alarm Awareness
A loud alarm warns of potentially lethal levels of carbon monoxide. Never ignore this alarm; further exposure can be fatal. Check residents for CO poisoning symptoms and contact authorities.
Alarm Signal Pattern: 4 long beeps followed by 5 seconds of silence. The red LED flashes the same pattern. The alarm sounds at a lower volume for approximately 10 seconds, then increases to 85dB.
In case of CO alarm:
- Keep calm; open doors & windows to ventilate the property.
- Stop using fuel-burning appliances and turn them off if possible.
- Evacuate the property, leaving doors & windows open.
- Call your fuel supplier's emergency number. Do not use appliances again until checked by an expert.
- Seek medical help immediately for anyone with CO poisoning symptoms (headache, nausea), informing medical staff about suspected CO poisoning.
Symptoms of CO poisoning: Mild Exposure (slight headache, vomiting, fatigue), Medium Exposure (severe throbbing headache, drowsiness, confusion, fast heart rate), Extreme Exposure (unconsciousness, convulsions, cardiorespiratory failure, death).
The CO alarm monitors CO levels in ppm. Reference levels: 35ppm (maximum allowable continuous exposure for healthy adults in any 8-hour period), 200ppm (slight headache, fatigue, dizziness, nausea after 2-3 hours), 40ppm (frontal headaches within 1-2 hours, life-threatening after 3 hours), 800ppm (dizziness, nausea & convulsions within 45 minutes; unconsciousness within 2 hours; death within 2-3 hours).
This apparatus protects against acute CO exposure but may not prevent chronic effects or fully safeguard at-risk individuals. Consult a doctor if in doubt.
6. Silence Feature - Smoke Alarm Only
In a known false alarm, the alarm can be silenced temporarily.
- Press the Test / [button].
- The alarm silences for 10 minutes; the red LED continues to flash.
The alarm automatically returns to full sensitivity after 10 minutes. Never ignore any alarm; if it sounds, assume a hazardous situation. Ignoring it may result in injury or death. If unsure of the source, evacuate immediately.
7. Sleep Easy™ Feature
If a low battery double 'chirp' occurs at night, the alarm can be silenced so it does not keep you from sleeping.
- Press the Test / [button].
- The alarm silences for 9 hours; the amber LED continues to flash.
- Replace the alarm the following day.
The alarm will still detect smoke and CO during the Sleep Easy mode but must be replaced within 30 days. Replace your smoke alarm device immediately to ensure protection in case of fire. Contact Technical Support if the alarm is less than 10 years old. Your alarm cannot be silenced if the chirp indicates a fault.
8. Low Battery Warning
When the alarm battery is low, the alarm will 'chirp' once, and the amber LED will flash every 40 seconds. Replace the alarm immediately.
9. Fault Indication
If there is a fault, the alarm will 'chirp' twice, and the amber LED will flash twice every 40 seconds. If within warranty, contact Technical Support. The combined smoke and CO alarm must be replaced immediately if there is a fault, as it cannot detect fire or CO leaks.

This combination smoke and CO alarm is designed to protect from fire and detect carbon monoxide gas. It is not designed to detect any other gas.
The SCB10 has two separate alarms: the CO alarm detects only CO, and the Smoke alarm detects only smoke reaching the sensor. Neither is designed to sense gas, heat, or flames (except for the CO detection function).
