General Introduction
Thank you for choosing BOYA! The BOYA BY-CM5 is a USB condenser microphone, compatible with most Android devices, tablets with USB-C connectors, and Mac/Windows computers. It is suitable for various applications such as home-studio recording, podcasting, video conference calls, vocals, and instrument recording.
The microphone features selectable cardioid and omnidirectional pickup patterns, allowing customization of audio capture, and supports 24bit/48 kHz resolution. A built-in 3.5mm headphone jack enables real-time audio monitoring. The headphone volume/gain/mute multi-function control allows for easy adjustment of audio levels. With an adjustable desk stand, users can position the microphone at their desired angle.
Cautions
- If you do not intend to use the microphone for a long period, please remove the USB cable.
- Do not touch the microphone while recording, as this will cause noise to be recorded.
- Do not place the microphone near high-voltage equipment or devices that emit strong electromagnetic fields; otherwise, it may cause noise to be recorded.
- Do not leave the microphone in hot or humid places.

Product Structure
The BY-CM5 microphone features the following components:
- 1. Metal mesh windscreen: Protects the microphone capsule.
- 2. Headphone volume/gain/mute control: A multi-function knob. Short press to mute/unmute (indicator light turns solid blue when muted). Long press for 2 seconds to switch between headphone volume control and gain control. Rotate to adjust the selected function.
- 3. Polar pattern indicators: Lights indicating the selected pickup pattern: Cardioid (心型) or Omnidirectional (全向型).
- 4. Polar pattern switch: A touch-sensitive button to switch between Cardioid and Omnidirectional pickup patterns.
- 5. Locking knobs: Used to adjust and secure the microphone's angle on the stand.
- 6. Desk stand: A detachable stand for desktop placement.
- 7. USB-C audio output: The primary connection port for audio data.
- 8. 3.5mm headphone output: For connecting headphones for real-time monitoring.
- 9. 5/8" threaded hole: Located at the base for mounting onto boom arms or stands.
Polar Patterns
The BY-CM5 offers two selectable polar patterns:
Cardioid
This pattern maximizes the rejection of sound coming from the sides and rear of the microphone. It is used as a directional microphone to capture full, rich, natural-sounding audio, ideal for podcasting, tech talks, dialog, and instrument recording.
Omnidirectional
This pattern picks up sound equally from all directions. It captures a natural blend of voice and ambiance, with low sensitivity to wind, handling noise, and vocal plosives.
Functions
Angle Adjustment
To adjust the microphone's angle: Loosen the locking knobs on both sides anticlockwise, position the microphone at the desired angle, and then tighten the knobs.
Mounting the BY-CMS to a Boom Arm
To mount the BY-CMS to a boom arm: Unscrew the locking knobs to remove the microphone from its desktop stand. Mount the BY-CMS to the boom arm using its 5/8" threaded hole. Note: The boom arm is not included.
Operation Guide
- Connect the microphone to your smartphone or computer using the supplied USB cable (USB-C to USB-A or USB-C to USB-C).
- Connect headphones to the 3.5mm headphone jack for audio monitoring.
- Adjust the headphone volume/gain/mute control knob according to your recording needs.
- You are ready to record.
Setup
Set-Up for Windows 10
- Connect the microphone to a USB port on your computer using the supplied USB cable.
- Go to "Settings", then select "Sound".
- Select "Speaker BY-CMS" as the output device.
- Select "Microphone BY-CM5" as the input device.
Set-Up for Windows 7
- Connect the microphone to a USB port on your computer using the supplied USB cable.
- From the "Start Menu", select the "Control Panel".
- Go to "Control Panel", select "Hardware and Sound".
- Select "Sound".
- In the "Sound" settings, select "Speaker BY-CMS" as the default device under the "Playback" tab.
- In the "Sound" settings, select "Microphone BY-CMS" as the default device under the "Recording" tab.
Set-Up for Mac
- Connect the microphone to a USB port on your computer using the supplied USB cable.
- Click the Apple icon, then go to "System Preferences" > "Sound".
- Select "BY-CMS" under the "Input" tab.
- Select "BY-CMS" under the "Output" tab.
