How to Use It

Installing Battery

To install the battery:

  1. Push the battery compartment button and pull the compartment out.
  2. Insert one AAA battery, ensuring correct polarity (+ and - symbols match the compartment markings).
  3. Close the battery compartment.

Mounting the Microphone

Using the microphone with cameras, camcorders, audio recorders, PCs

1. Lock the microphone onto the camera's hot shoe mount by loosening the locking knob, sliding the microphone's cold shoe mount onto the camera, and then tightening the locking knob.

2. Plug the 3.5 mm TRS connector into the audio input jack of your device (audio recorder, amplifier, PC, laptop).

Using the microphone with a Smartphone, tablet or Mac

1. Plug the 3.5 mm TRRS connector into the audio jack of your smartphone, tablet, or Mac.

2. Open your preferred audio-only or video recording app and begin recording.

Connecting the microphone to a tripod

1. Screw the microphone onto a tripod or tripod plate using the 1/4" screw socket. Refer to the tripod's instructions for details.

2. Connect the 3.5mm audio cable to your camera or recording device.

Microphone Operation

  1. Press and hold the power switch for 3 seconds to turn on the BY-BM3011. The LED indicator will light up.
  2. Point the microphone towards the sound source and away from unwanted noise. For best results when using on a tripod, position the microphone directly below or above the sound source and in front of it.
  3. After recording is complete, press the power switch again to turn off the BY-BM3011.

Troubleshooting

ProblemSolution
No sound recorded
  • Ensure a new AAA battery is installed correctly.
  • Verify the microphone's power switch is set to ON and the LED indicator is lit.
  • Confirm the 3.5mm mini plug is connected to the correct MIC jack on the recording device.
Microphone stops working
  • Turn the power switch ON and check if the LED lights up. If not, replace the battery.
Sound is too quiet
  • Move the microphone closer to the subject.
  • Consult your camera's user manual for recording level settings.
Microphone not picking up sound correctly (e.g., distant sound)
  • Ensure the microphone is positioned correctly relative to the subject.
  • Consult your camera's user manual for recording settings.
Microphone is loose on the mount
  • Ensure the locking wheel is fully tightened.

Notes and Important Information

Note: Not all Android devices support external microphones when recording video. You may need to download a third-party app and configure the sound source to use an external microphone.
