Charging Instructions
Solar Maintenance Chargers are designed to maintain a charged battery (≥12V), NOT for charging a deeply discharged battery.
- Electrolyte Level Check: Prior to charging, check the electrolyte level. If low, add demineralised water to the correct level as indicated on the battery.
- Voltage Check: Before connecting, ensure the battery voltage is adequate to receive charge. The charger will not charge from zero volts. Refer to Technical Specifications for voltage requirements.
- Connect SCA Solar Maintenance Charger to Battery: Connect the charger to the battery using the 12V battery clamps. DO NOT start the vehicle while the charger is connected. Electrical surges may damage the charger.
IMPORTANT!
- The black lead & clamp indicates (-/Negative) ⚫.
- The red lead & clamp indicates (+/Positive) ?.
- Ensure correct polarity is connected to prevent a short circuit. This charger is not reverse polarity protected.
- Ensure the battery is in a safe, stable location with adequate ventilation.
- Ensure appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn (Gloves and Eye Wear).
- Connect suction caps (if applicable) to attach the charger to the windshield (inside or outside) or a surface near the battery.
- Note: The SCA Solar Maintenance Charger is NOT waterproof or water resistant and must be in a well-ventilated area.
- Connect the 12V Battery Clamps to the charger.
- Connect the RED Battery Clamp to the Positive Terminal (+/Positive) on the battery.
- Connect the BLACK Battery Clamp to the Negative Terminal (-/Negative) on the battery.
When ready to disconnect:
- Disconnect the BLACK lead (Battery Clamp) from the Negative Terminal.
- Disconnect the RED lead (Battery Clamp) from the Positive Terminal.
- Use a voltmeter to check the battery voltage before reconnecting it to the vehicle.
- Ensure the battery has been secured correctly.
