Warnings

WARNING: BATTERY ACID IS HIGHLY CORROSIVE; ALWAYS WEAR PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) WHEN WORKING ON OR AROUND LEAD-ACID BATTERIES.

FIRST AID & BATTERIES

WARNING: SEALED LEAD-ACID RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES GENERATE HYDROGEN GAS DURING THE CHARGING PROCESS.

HYDROGEN GAS IS:

TO AVOID AN EXPLOSION OR THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING SPLASHED FROM BATTERY ACID:

NOTE: A JUMP STARTER IS NOT A SUITABLE REPLACEMENT FOR A DAMAGED OR DEPLETED BATTERY. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO CORRECTLY CHARGE AS REQUIRED.

Features

This Jump Starter is designed as a compact, durable and portable emergency starting power system for vehicles with 12V electrical systems. This self-contained system is able to safely jump start vehicles with depleted or flat batteries without the need of a host jump vehicle or 240V power supply.

If your vehicle is fitted with a Lithium type starting battery (Factory or Aftermarket), please refer to the battery information for over-riding or resetting the BMS if low voltage cutoff is triggered. Failing to do so may result in damage to your battery.

Operating Instructions

ENSURE JUMP STARTER IS FULLY CHARGED FOR THE FULL RECOMMENDED CHARGE TIME BEFORE FIRST USE (SEE SPECIFICATION TABLE).

APS800A AND APS1200A COMPACT JUMP STARTERS ARE DESIGNED FOR OCCASIONAL PRIVATE USE ONLY, NOT FREQUENT OR HEAVY COMMERCIAL USE. IF HIGH CAPACITY OR FREQUENT USE IS REQUIRED, CHOOSE EITHER THE APS1700A OR APS2400A MODELS. CHARGE THE UNIT FOR FULL RECOMMENDED CHARGE TIME BEFORE USING (see specification table).

The difference between 12.6V and 12V is approximately 80% of the units output capacity, and if not fully charged the unit will not be able to start your car. Please refer to the "Charging" section on page 7 for the correct charging method.

BEFORE JUMP STARTING ANY VEHICLE BATTERY, INSPECT THE VEHICLE BATTERY FOR OBVIOUS SIGNS OF DAMAGE SUCH AS A SWOLLEN CASE OR LEAKING ELECTROLYTE.

Always check that the battery has the correct fluid levels before attempting to jump start or charge.

JUMP STARTING

  1. Ensure both the ignition of vehicle to be started and the jump starter main power switch is switched OFF before any connections are made to the battery.
  2. Connect the RED (+) alligator clamp of the jump starter to the RED (+) positive battery terminal of the vehicle.
  3. Connect the BLACK (-) alligator clamp of the jump starter to the negative terminal, or to a non-moving metal part of the engine or chassis in the case of a remotely mounted battery. Avoid connecting to fuel lines!
  4. Switch the jump starter main power switch to the ON position and leave for approximately 5 seconds.
  5. Listen for any audible beeping indicating an accidental reversed polarity - the unit is protected from accidental reverse polarity connection or 24V battery connection regardless whether the Main Switch is on or off. If beeping is heard this unit will not output power, turn the main switch off, disconnect then reconnect clamps in the correct order ensuring the polarity is correct.
  6. With the jump starter still connected and switched on, turn the vehicle ignition and crank the engine. Do not crank the engine for any more than 5 seconds at a time.
  7. If the engine fails to start, wait for at least 1 minute before trying again to avoid overloading the unit. If overload protections engage, switch off the main power switch and allow the unit to cool down for approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
  8. Once the engine is running, switch the jump starter main power switch to the OFF position. Disconnect the BLACK (-) negative clamp from the vehicle battery first, and return the cable to its storage position on the jump start unit.
  9. Disconnect the RED (+) positive clamp last, and return the cable to its storage position on the jump start unit.
  10. As soon as possible, connect the jump starter to the supplied 240V AC Charger and recharge for the full recommended charge time (see "Charging" section on page 7).

INBUILT SAFETY SYSTEMS:

This jump starter is fitted with a sophisticated mosfet controlled electronic safety system to protect the unit and the connected battery in the result of accidental user error. Even with these protection systems in place, extreme care should be taken with the correct identification of the system voltage and the batteries being jump started:

Operation as a Portable Power Supply

USB:

Model dependant, this jump starter is fitted with single or dual 5V 2.4Amp USB outputs on the front panel of the unit. To use, simply plug in your USB cable to the socket, connect to your device and switch the jump start main power switch on the left-hand side to the ON position.

The USB port is fitted with an overload circuit; if the port is overloaded power will be switched off and will automatically re-set after 2 minutes.

12V Accessory Socket (APS2400A model only):

The APS2400A model (only) is fitted with a 12V power socket in front of the handle. To use, simply lift rubber dust cover and insert your 12V plug for the device being used. This socket can provide up to 15A of 12V DC power, although SCA recommends only using smaller devices so as not to rapidly deplete the internal battery.

NOTE - If you have used the jump starter as a portable power device, SCA recommends re-charging the battery FULLY before trying to jump start a vehicle. If the jump starter is not 100% fully charged, it may not be able to jump start a vehicle.

LED Emergency Light:

Press the light button on the front panel to turn the light ON or OFF. ?

Recharging the Jump Starter Unit

SCA emphasizes that successful jump starting requires the internal battery to be 100% fully charged. It is recommended to recharge the unit after each use, using the provided charger. To ensure the jump starter is ready to always use and to maximise its battery life, recharge the unit every 3 months. Not doing so will put the unit battery in a discharged state, will shorten its life and result in the jump starter not holding enough charge to start your vehicle.

The following table is a guide showing frequency of use between charges and estimated number of charge/recharge cycles:

Recommendations to prolong battery life:

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

BATTERY DISPOSAL:

TO PREVENT INJURY, DO NOT DISPOSE OF BATTERY IN FIRE. EXPOSURE TO FIRE OR INTENSE HEAT CAN RESULT IN EXPLOSION CAUSING SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY. FOR CORRECT DISPOSAL, PLEASE VISIT YOUR LOCAL RECYCLING CENTRE.

THESE JUMP STARTERS HAVE NON-REPLACEABLE BATTERIES. THE BASE OF THE UNIT ACTUALLY FORMS PART OF THE BATTERY CASE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DISASSEMBLE.
