Congratulations on your purchase of the Carlon RC4120 Battery Door Chime!
What's Included:
- Chime Receiver
- Chime Button
- Two 3-Volt lithium batteries (installed)
- Double-sided tape
- Screws
- Wall anchors
Tools/Supplies Needed:
- Medium flat head screwdriver
- Small Phillips head screwdriver
- Ballpoint pen
- 7/32" drill bit
- Drill (if mounting with screws)
Batteries Needed (Not Included):
- 4 alkaline "D" batteries
Mounting the Chime Button
Note: Mounting the Chime Button on aluminum siding or a metal door frame may reduce its range. If mounting on metal, try placing a 1/2 inch piece of wood between the button and the metal.
If you need to cover the wire hole from your existing button, save mounting the new Chime Button until after removing the existing one.
- Remove the cover from the back of the Button by inserting a flat head screwdriver into the notch at the bottom of the transmitter and turning. Lift the Chime Button cover away from the back plate.
- For tape mounting:
- Ensure surfaces are free of dust, oil, and other substances that could affect adhesion.
- Attach double-sided tape to the Chime Button back cover.
- With the end featuring the hook-shaped latch facing down, press the cover firmly onto the mounting surface.
- For screw mounting:
- Place the Chime Button where desired and mark the screw locations.
- Place the Chime Button back cover against the mounting surface and screw it into the marked locations using the provided screws. You may need to drill pilot holes in hardwoods.
- Reattach the Chime Button to the installed back cover.
Receiver Battery Installation:
- Remove the two side battery covers by inserting a flat head screwdriver blade into the small rectangular opening on either side of the Chime. Rotate the blade to release the cover and expose the battery compartment.
- Insert two "D" alkaline batteries into each compartment, observing the (+) and (-) placement guides. A total of four batteries are required.
- With batteries in place, reinstall the battery compartment covers. Insert the three tabs of each cover into the front face of the Chime, then press down and in to snap the bottom into place. Repeat for the other side.
Mounting the Battery-Powered Chime Receiver:
Before mounting the Receiver, test your desired location for operation.
- Mark the screw locations onto the wall.
- Drill 7/32 inch holes into the wall for the plastic anchors. Place anchors into the holes and install the silver screws.
- Leave the screw heads extending about 1/8 inch from the wall.
- Slide the Receiver base onto the screws and lock it into the slots.
Testing:
Press the Chime Button(s). The Receiver should play a tone, and the LED lights will flash while the tone or melody is playing. Note: To have the LED lights flash longer, select a longer melody.
Changing Tone/Melody Selection:
To change to a different tone or melody, press the small raised Button located on the bottom front of the Chime Button once. The Receiver will play the next selection. To continue changing, press the button again and wait for the Receiver to confirm the change.
Note: If you change the melody or tone too rapidly, the Receiver may not play each selection. Only the last selected melody or tone will play. Selecting a new tone while the Receiver is playing will switch the system to the new setting, but the Receiver will finish playing the current tone or melody.
Front/Back Door Chime Operation:
With two Chime Buttons, you can set a different tone or melody for each door. By remembering which tone/melody is played, you can identify which button was pressed. The Chime Buttons can also be used as hand-held pagers.
Volume Control:
Adjust loudness by moving the volume control lever on the back of the Chime Receiver to your desired position.
LED Lights:
To turn off the LED lights, locate the ON/OFF switch in the right battery compartment and push it to the "off" position.
Replacing Button Batteries:
- Remove the Chime Button from its back cover by inserting a flathead screwdriver into the notch at the bottom of the Button and turning. Lift the Chime Button cover away from the back plate.
- Remove old batteries by placing a ballpoint pen in the slot directly beneath the batteries. Lift the top battery out of the compartment, then repeat for the second battery. Caution: Do not hit the Chime Button to remove batteries, as this could damage the Button.
- Replace old batteries with new batteries, ensuring the positive (+) side is up.
Battery Caution: Do not recharge, disassemble, heat above 100°C (212°F), or incinerate batteries. Replace only with UL approved Type CR2032 3-volt lithium batteries, such as Carlon RC3395. Using other batteries may cause transmitter failure and void the manufacturer's warranty and liability.
Troubleshooting Tips:
- Problem: Receiver does not sound when the Chime Button is pressed.
- Suggestion: Verify batteries are installed correctly and battery contacts are clean and in position. Try replacing batteries first. Check that the Receiver and Button are within the operating range.
- Problem: Receiver plays "Please replace button batteries" or "Please replace chime batteries" at the end of a melody or tone.
- Suggestion: "Please replace button batteries" indicates the Chime Button batteries are low. Replace them. "Please replace chime batteries" indicates the Chime Receiver batteries are low. Replace them.
- Problem: Chime only plays "dong."
- Suggestion: Press the Scroll Button on the Transmitter to cycle through and change sound options.
- Problem: Receiver sometimes plays without anyone pressing the Chime Button.
- Suggestion: If another wireless chime system nearby operates on the same frequency, it could accidentally trigger your system. Change the privacy code if this occurs.
Privacy Codes and How to Change Them:
It is not necessary to change the privacy code unless interference occurs. If you need to change the code:
- Use a nail clipper or wire cutter to cut and separate one of the wires (labeled "A" through "E") on the Chime Receiver. Ensure the cut wire does not touch any other wire.
- Remove the back cover from the Chime Button and locate the wires adjacent to the batteries. These wires are designated "A" through "E" with letters printed above them.
- Using a nail clipper or wire cutter, cut and separate the same wire that was cut on the Chime Receiver. Ensure the cut wire does not touch any other wire.
Note: It does not matter which wires are cut, but it is crucial that the same wire is cut on both the Button and the Receiver. If the cut wires do not match, the system will not work.
Suggestion: Begin by cutting just one wire in the Chime Receiver and the same wire in the Chime Button. Test to see if the problem is resolved. If the system is still not working properly, try cutting another wire. Remember that every time a wire is cut in the Chime Receiver, the corresponding wire must also be cut in the Chime Button.
