Mastech MS5202 High Voltage Insulation Tester
Brand: Mastech
Model: MS5202
SKU: MS5202CBGLO
Important Safety Precautions
Special attention is required when using this test and measurement instrument to prevent electric shock and equipment damage. Always:
- Use appropriate measurement category (CAT), voltage, and amperage rated probes, test leads, and adapters.
- Do not use or store the device in environments with explosive gas, vapor, or under high temperature and humidity.
- Keep fingers behind the physical guard when handling test probes and crocodile clips.
- Examine test leads before use; replace any with deteriorated insulation.
- Connect the common test lead before the live test lead, and remove the live test lead before the common test lead.
- Ensure instrument fuses are available and disconnect power before measuring current.
- Remove batteries if the device is not used for extended periods or stored above 45°C to prevent leakage damage.

Operation Guides
Battery Replacement
To replace batteries:
- Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Insert batteries following the polarity indicated inside the compartment.
[Diagram Description: Visual shows the back of the tester being opened to access the battery compartment, with an arrow indicating battery insertion.]
Resistance Measurement
To perform resistance measurement:
- Connect the test leads: EARTH lead to the EARTH terminal, GUARD lead to the GUARD terminal, and LINE lead to the LINE terminal on the tester. Connect the other ends of the leads to the circuit under test.
- Set the rotary dial to the desired MΩ range (e.g., MΩ•).
[Diagram Description: Step 1 shows test leads connected to tester terminals (EARTH, GUARD, LINE) and a test circuit. Step 2 shows the rotary dial set to the MΩ range.]
Continuous Measurement
To perform continuous measurement:
- Connect the test leads as described in Resistance Measurement.
- Set the rotary dial to the desired MΩ range.
- Press and hold the 'PRESS+SWITCH' button to initiate continuous measurement.
[Diagram Description: Step 1 and 2 are similar to Resistance Measurement. Step 3 shows a hand pressing the 'PRESS+SWITCH' button on the tester.]
Guard Measurement
To perform guard measurement (e.g., for immersion testing):
- Connect the EARTH and LINE leads to the respective terminals on the tester.
- Connect the GUARD lead to the GUARD terminal on the tester.
- Connect the 'GUARD WIRE' to the GUARD terminal.
- Connect the 'ELECTRIC WIRE' to the item being tested, which is immersed in a liquid ('IMMERSION LIQUID').
[Diagram Description: Shows the tester with EARTH, GUARD, LINE terminals. A GUARD WIRE connects to the GUARD terminal. An ELECTRIC WIRE is shown immersed in liquid. This setup is for measuring insulation resistance in specific conditions.]
