Recommended sequence of steps for VW TIGUAN (AD1) glow plug replacement:

Carry Out Replacement in the Following Order:

  1. 1 Open the bonnet.
  2. 2 Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
  3. 3 Before getting down to work, start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature.
  4. 4 Shut off the engine.
  5. 5 Unscrew the bracket for the engine pipes. Use Torx T27. Use a ratchet wrench.

  6. 6 Detach the engine wiring harness. Use a flat screwdriver.

  9. 9 Clean dirt, dust, and debris from inside the spark plug wells.

  10. 10 Treat the glow plugs. Use WD-40 spray.

  11. 11 Unscrew the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #10. Use a torque wrench.

  13. 13 Remove the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #10. Use needle nose pliers.

  14. 14 Treat the glow plugs. Use high-temperature ceramic grease.

  15. 15 Install new glow plugs to their mounting seats. Use needle nose pliers.

  16. 16 Tighten the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 18 Nm torque.

  17. 17 Attach the glow plug wiring connectors.

  18. 18 Treat the engine wiring harness connectors. Use dielectric grease.

  21. 21 Screw in the bracket for the engine pipes. Use Torx T27. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 7 Nm torque.

  22. 22 Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.
  23. 23 Shut off the engine.
  24. 24 Remove the fender protection cover.
  25. 25 Close the hood.

Please note! Do not touch the heating element as fingerprints may cause malfunction.

Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection.

Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.
