How to Replace Spark Plugs on Opel Astra G (T98, F08, F48)

Replacement Procedure

  1. Step 1: Open the Hood

    Open the hood of the vehicle. Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging the paintwork and plastic parts of the car.

  2. Step 2: Remove the Engine Cover

    Remove the engine cover.

  3. Step 3: Detach Ignition Coil Connector

    Detach the connector from the ignition coil. Use a flat screwdriver.

  4. Step 4: Unscrew Ignition Coil Bracket

    Unscrew the ignition coil bracket. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.

  5. Step 5: Pry Up Ignition Coil

    Pry up the ignition coil. Use a crowbar.

  6. Step 6: Remove Ignition Coil

    Take out the ignition coil from the spark plug well.

  7. Step 7: Clean Spark Plug Wells

    Clean dirt, dust, and debris from inside the spark plug wells.

  8. Step 8: Unscrew Spark Plugs

    Unscrew the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.

  9. Step 9: Remove Spark Plugs

    Take out the spark plugs.

  10. Step 10: Apply Anti-Seize Lubricant

    Apply a thin layer of a special high-temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs.

  11. Step 11: Install New Spark Plugs

    Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats.

  12. Step 12: Tighten New Spark Plugs

    Screw new spark plugs and tighten them. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten to 24 Nm torque.

  13. Step 13: Install Ignition Coil

    Install the ignition coil into the spark plug well. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.

  14. Step 14: Tighten Ignition Coil Fastening

    Tighten the ignition coil fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten to 15 Nm torque.

  15. Step 15: Treat Ignition Coil Connector

    Treat the ignition coil connector with electronic spray. The spray will protect the electrical contacts from corrosion, oxidation, and will reduce the contact resistance.

    AUTODOC recommends: After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.

  16. Step 16: Plug In Ignition Coil Connector

    Plug in the ignition coil connector.

  17. Step 17: Install Engine Cover

    Install the engine cover and secure it. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.

  18. Step 18: Run Engine and Shut Off

    Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary to ensure that the component operates properly. Shut off the engine.

  19. Step 19: Remove Fender Protection Cover

    Remove the fender protection cover.
