Introduction

TP-Link Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs, available in Tunable White and Multi-Color variants, are Wi-Fi enabled, dimmable, and energy-efficient lighting solutions. They can be controlled directly via your iOS or Android smartphones or tablets, eliminating the need for an additional hub or hardwired switch. The TP-Link Kasa mobile app allows users to access and manage their lights, and create custom lighting automations from anywhere globally, provided an active internet connection is available.

Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb Installation

  1. Download the TP-Link Kasa app from the App Store or Google Play.

Using Kasa with Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs

Kasa Account

While a Kasa account is not mandatory for basic device usage, signing up provides added functionality:

Devices can only be associated with one Kasa account. To remove an association, turn off Remote Control in Kasa's settings or perform a factory reset. After creating an account, email verification is required to enable full functionality.

The features and functions displayed in the Kasa app can vary based on the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb model. The Multi-Color bulb is used as an example in the app interface.

Customizing Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs

Personalize your Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb with a descriptive name, icon, and other details via the bulb's settings screen in the Kasa app.

  1. On the Devices screen, tap the row of the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb to access its controls.
  2. Tap the ⚙️ (Settings) icon in the top-right corner.
  3. On the Device Settings screen, tap the relevant icon for each setting you wish to personalize:
    • Device Name: Create a unique name for your Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb.
    • Device Icon: Choose from available icons or upload a custom icon.
    • Default State: Set the bulb's state (on/off, brightness) when it's switched on.
    • Presets: Select from pre-defined presets or customize your own by tapping the edit icon.

Tunable White

*Available for the LB120 and LB130 bulbs only.

The LB120 bulb offers an adjustable temperature range from warm (2,700k) to cool (6,500k) shades of white. The LB130 bulb features a color temperature rating from 2500k to 9000k, allowing users to adjust their home's lighting to suit their needs throughout the day.

  1. On the Devices screen, tap the row of the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb to go to its controls.
  2. Select a preferred color temperature (warm or cool) from the temperature spectrum.

Adjustment of Brightness

You can increase or decrease the bulb brightness (for both white and color modes) from 1% to 100% using the dimmer slider in the Kasa app.

Note: The Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb can only be dimmed via the Kasa app. It is not recommended for use with a standard in-wall dimmer.

Coloring your room

*Available for the Multi-Color bulb only.

The Multi-Color bulb can illuminate in a broad spectrum of colors, allowing you to create the perfect ambiance in your home or office, or add fun and exciting lighting effects to your home décor.

  1. On the Devices screen, tap the row of the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb to go to its controls.
  2. Tap COLOR to switch to the Color mode.
  3. Select a hue from the color spectrum.

Circadian Mode

*Available for the Tunable White and Multi-Color bulbs only.

When enabled, the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs dynamically adjust both light intensity and color temperature to mimic natural daylight changes throughout the day, supporting your body's circadian rhythm.

  1. On the Devices screen, tap the row of the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb to go to its controls.
  2. Tap the Circadian Mode icon to enable it.

Scheduling

You can set up your Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs to illuminate your home at specific times on specific days of the week, or to provide a gentle wake-up experience in the morning.

  1. On the Devices screen, tap the row of the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb for which you want to create a schedule.
  2. Tap the Schedule icon to open the Schedule screen.
  3. Tap the + icon to create a new event.
  4. Within the Create Event screen, set your preferred state for the light bulb (ON or OFF), brightness intensity, time, and day(s).
  5. Tap Save.

You can create up to 16 events for a Smart Bulb and edit them at any time from the Schedule screen.

Energy Monitoring

The Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs feature energy usage monitoring, providing real-time energy consumption reports (average daily, weekly, and monthly).

  1. On the Devices screen, tap the row of the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb to go to its controls.
  2. Tap the Usage icon.

Creating Scenes

Take full advantage of your TP-Link Smart Home devices by creating "Scenes." A scene is a preset group of Smart Devices (such as Smart Plugs, Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs, and Smart Switches) that can be customized and controlled simultaneously with a single tap from your smartphone or tablet. This allows you to easily set your mood or fit any special occasion. For example, you can create a "Movie Time" scene to turn on your home theater system plugged into a Smart Plug and dim the lights in your Entertainment Room to 10% simultaneously.

Note: Scenes can only be set and controlled once you are signed into your Kasa account.

  1. On the main Home screen, tap the Scenes tab to switch to the Scenes view.
  2. Choose one of the preset scenes to start, or select Custom to set up your own personalized scene. To set a scene, you will need to select one or more devices to be controlled and then define their actions and/or states.

Maintaining the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs

Firmware Update

To ensure your Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs are up-to-date with the latest improvements and fixes, it is recommended to update the firmware when updates are available.

  1. Launch Kasa.
  2. Tap the ☰ (navigation drawer) and then Settings.
  3. Tap Firmware Update.
  4. Within the Firmware Update screen, tap Update.

Note: Only Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs that are currently reachable and have an available update will be displayed. It is important to keep the Kasa app running during the update process. Avoid minimizing, closing, or interrupting the update to prevent issues.

Resetting

Resetting the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs can help troubleshoot various issues. Two types of resets are available:

To reset the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs without losing configuration settings (Soft Reset):

  1. Turn the light switch controlling the bulb to the OFF position.
  2. Flip the light switch on and off 3 times.

To reset the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs to factory defaults:

  1. Turn the light switch controlling the bulb to the OFF position.
  2. Flip the light switch on and off 5 times.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I control multiple Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs at the same time?
    Yes. You can manage and save multiple bulbs together as a "scene".
  2. How far can I be and still able to control the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs?
    You can control your Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs from anywhere in the world, as long as you have an Internet connection.
  3. The Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb appears offline or unreachable, what should I do?
    • Check that the light switch is ON. The Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb requires an "always-on" power supply to operate correctly.
    • Ensure you are connected to the same Wi-Fi network for local control. For control outside your home, sign in to your Kasa account and enable Remote Control.
    • Reset the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb and reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.
  4. Why do my Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs show "Local Only"?
    This indicates the bulbs can only be controlled through your Wi-Fi network. To control them outside your home, sign in to your Kasa account and enable Remote Control.
  5. Can I dim the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs?
    The Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs are not designed for use with traditional wall dimmers. Dimming is only possible via the Kasa app.
