Introduction
The Kasa Smart Bulb is part of the Kasa smart home product line, which includes plugs, switches, and cameras. It allows users to adjust brightness, track energy consumption, set schedules and timers, and simulate sunrise alarms. Lights can be grouped for easier control and scene creation.

Set Up Your Smart Bulb
Follow these steps to set up your smart bulb using the Kasa Smart app:
1. Download Kasa Smart App
Download from Google Play or the App Store, or scan the QR code provided in the original document.
2. Log In to Kasa Smart App
Open the app and log in with your TP-Link ID. If you don't have one, tap 'Create Account'.
3. Add Your Devices
Tap the [+] button in the app, select 'Device', and follow the on-screen instructions to add your new Kasa smart bulb.
Setup Using Amazon Frustration-Free Setup (FFS)
What is Amazon Frustration-Free Setup (FFS)?
FFS allows connecting and setting up your Kasa smart bulb in fewer steps, without re-entering Wi-Fi passwords. To use FFS, ensure:
- Your Kasa smart bulb supports Amazon FFS (model KL135 currently).
- You have an Amazon FFS-enabled Alexa device or router.
- Your Wi-Fi information is saved to Amazon via Alexa echo.
- Your Kasa smart bulb and router are on the same network as your Alexa echo.
LED Indications during Amazon Frustration-Free Setup

How to use Amazon Frustration-Free Setup with Kasa bulbs
Follow these steps within the Amazon Alexa app:
- Open the Amazon Alexa app, navigate to More > Skills & Games.
- Search for "Kasa" and select "TP-LINK Kasa".
- Tap the "ENABLE TO USE" button.
- Log in with your TP-Link ID and authorize the connection. A "TP-LINK Kasa has been successfully linked" message will appear.
- Plug in your Kasa smart bulb. Setup completes automatically within two minutes.
Confirmation: If the bulb appears on the Kasa Smart app's Home page, it's successfully linked and connected to Wi-Fi. If not, set it up manually via the Kasa Smart app.
Main Device Control
After setup, the Devices page in the Kasa app displays your smart bulb. You can add devices, control groups, configure settings, and more.
Devices Page
Tap the ON/OFF button to instantly turn the bulb on or off.
Add a Group
Tap [+] then 'Group' to create groups for simultaneous control of multiple devices. Tip: Add devices before grouping them.
Configure Kasa Settings
Swipe right on the Devices page to access Kasa account settings and information.
Configure Your Smart Bulb
From the Devices page, tap a smart bulb to access its settings. Adjust light temperature or color (for KL130/KL125/KL135), power on/off, set brightness, schedules, shortcuts, track energy usage, and configure other settings. The following describes adjustments using KL130 as an example:
Power On/Off At One Tap
Quickly turn the bulb on or off with a single button on the Smart Bulb page.
Adjust Brightness
Dim the smart bulb from 1% to 100%.
Adjust Light Temperature
Easily adjust the light temperature (for KL130/KL125/KL135).
Adjust Color
Choose a preferred color for your smart bulb (for KL130/KL125/KL135).
Presets and Recents
Tap to customize presets and apply recently used settings.
Shortcuts
Apply favorite presets with a single tap.
Auto-White
The Auto-White shortcut adjusts the bulb's color and brightness to mimic the sun's cycle throughout the day.
Edit Shortcuts
Select a shortcut, tap 'Edit', choose preferred color effects, and save.
Add Schedules
Tap 'Schedule' to create automatic On/Off actions for your daily routine.
Track Energy Usage
Tap 'Usage' to view and track your smart bulb's energy consumption.
Device Settings
Tap the settings icon [settings] to configure device settings and view information.
Device States
Set the default state for when the smart bulb is turned on via the app or power source.
Create Scenes
A scene is a preset group of smart devices that can be customized and activated simultaneously. This allows you to easily set the mood for activities or occasions.
- On the Scenes page, tap [+].
- Choose a default scene or create a new one.
- Tap the light bulb icon to set its behavior for the scene.
- Pick an icon for your scene.
- Set a name for the scene.
- Tap the created scene to apply it.
Schedule A Scene
Schedule scenes to activate automatically at a specified time. For example, to apply "TV Time" scene every weekday at 7:33 PM:
- Go to the Smart Actions page and tap 'Add an Action'.
- Select 'Schedule a Scene'.
- Choose the scene and set the time schedule.
- Give the schedule a name for easy recall.
Auto-Off Timer
Set an auto-off timer to turn the smart bulb off after a designated period. For example, to turn off a bedroom lamp after 21 minutes:
- Go to the Smart Actions page and tap 'Add an Action'.
- Select 'Auto-Off Timer'.
- Select the device and set the auto-off duration.
- Give the timer a name.
Reset Your Smart Bulb
Two reset types are available: Soft Reset (resets Wi-Fi settings) and Factory Reset (restores to defaults).
Soft Reset
- Turn the light switch controlling the bulb OFF.
- Flip the switch ON and OFF 5 times (approx. 1-second intervals). Stop when the light is ON for the fifth time. Three blinks indicate a successful soft reset.
Factory Reset
Method 1:
- Turn the light switch OFF.
- Flip the switch ON and OFF 10 times (approx. 1-second intervals). Stop when the light is ON for the tenth time. Three blinks indicate a successful factory reset.
Method 2:
In the Kasa app Devices page, swipe left on the bulb and tap 'Delete', OR tap the bulb and then tap '> Remove Device'.
Works with Kasa
Pair your smart bulb with Amazon Alexa, Google Home Assistant, SmartThings, and other services for hands-free control. Kasa also integrates with Nest for home automation.
- Launch the Kasa Smart app, swipe right, and tap 'Works with Kasa'.
- Select a service and follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup.
