Preparing the Chassis
Step 1: Panel Removal
Diagram shows a PC case with arrows indicating the removal of the front panel, top panel, and side panels.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Before installing the distribution plate, carefully read your PC case manual.
First, remove the PC case's front panel. After that, you can remove the top and side panels.
Step 2: Internal Component Removal
Diagram shows the interior of a PC case with arrows indicating the removal of internal components, specifically SSD plates and the PSU shroud.
After removing the exterior panels, the inner two (2) SSD plates (located beside the motherboard) and the PSU Shroud also need to be detached.
Step 3: Drive Cage Removal
Diagram shows the interior of a PC case with arrows indicating the removal of drive cages.
To fully utilize the distribution plate's potential, you must also remove the two (2) drive cages.
Note: If you will not use the side radiator configuration, one of the drive cages can still be inserted back into the case.
Installing the Distribution Plate
Step 1: Placement
Diagram shows the inside of a PC chassis with the distribution plate being carefully inserted into its mounting location.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: It is recommended that a distribution plate is installed into the chassis before radiators with fans.
Carefully insert the distribution plate into the PC Chassis.
Step 2: Securing the Plate
Diagram shows the rear of the PC chassis with screws and washers being used to secure the distribution plate. Required tools and parts are also illustrated.
Secure the distribution plate from the backside using eight (8) M4x5 DIN7984 Screws and eight (8) M4 0.8 mm Washers with the provided Allen Key 2.5 mm.
For this step you will need:
- Allen Key 2.5 mm (1 pc)
- M4x5 DIN7984 Screw (8 pcs)
- M4 0.8 mm Washer (8 pcs)
Recommended Distribution Plate Configurations
A diagram of the distribution plate shows the layout of all ports, labeled as: FILL, TOP RADIATOR INLET, TOP RADIATOR OUTLET, CPU OUTLET, CPU INLET, GPU OUTLET, GPU INLET, DRAIN, SIDE RADIATOR INLET, FRONT RADIATOR INLET, and FRONT/SIDE RADIATOR OUTLET.
To complete your loop, all ports must be used as marked in the image.
All remaining unused ports must be closed with supplied plugs, using the EK-Loop Multi Allen Key.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: If one of the prescribed components will not be installed (i.e., side radiator or GPU block), then one INLET and one OUTLET port must still be joined together in order for this distribution plate to function!
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Only one INLET and one OUTLET port for the GPU connection can be used, while all other INLET and OUTLET GPU ports must be closed with G1/4 plugs.
A separate diagram highlights the FILL port on the top and the DRAIN port on the bottom of the distribution plate.
Flow Diagram
The flow diagram illustrates the path of coolant through the distribution plate, showing entry and exit points for radiators, CPU, and GPU, with arrows indicating the direction of flow. The diagram depicts how coolant circulates within the internal channels of the plate.
Connecting Components
D-RGB LED Strip Connection
Diagram shows a 3-pin D-RGB connector and a motherboard header labeled "D-RGB Header" and "RGB Header".
Plug the 3-pin connector of the distribution plate's D-RGB LED light to the D-RGB HEADER on the motherboard. The LED will work if the pin layout on the header is as follows: +5V, Digital, Empty, Ground.
Pump Connection
Diagram shows a SATA power connector labeled "SATA CONNECTOR" and a 4-pin PWM fan connector labeled "4-PIN PWM FAN CONNECTOR".
The EK-D5 PWM pump has two connectors:
- SATA Connector: It must be connected directly to your PSU at all times as it is used to power the pump.
- 4-pin PWM fan: It can be connected to your motherboard's CPU_ Fan or designated water pump header, or to a controller. This cable is used to control and report the rotational speed of the pump. If it's not connected, the pump will run at maximum speed (100% PWM).
Testing the Loop
To ensure the installation of EK components was successful, EKWB recommends performing a leak test for 24 hours.
When your loop is complete and filled with coolant, connect the pump to a PSU outside of your system. Do not connect power to any of the other components. Turn on the PSU and let the pump run continuously. It is normal for the coolant level to drop during this process as air collects in the distribution plate.
Inspect all parts of the loop. In the eventuality that coolant leaks, fix the issue and repeat the testing process. Ensure that all hardware is dry before the system is powered on in order to prevent any damage.
