Water Resistance
Watches are classified by water resistance levels from "I" to "V" according to their protection against water. To determine the correct operating conditions, check your watch's class using the following table.
Rating | Marking on Case | Splashes, Rain | Washing, etc. | Submerged Swimming | Diving, etc. |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
I | Yes | Yes | No | No | |
II | WATER RESISTANT | Yes | No | No | No |
III | 50 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | No | No |
IV | 100 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
V | 200 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
300 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Notes
- Level I watches are not waterproof; avoid contact with any moisture.
- Do not press buttons underwater.
- For Level III watches, you can press buttons underwater, but do not press recessed buttons. If seawater gets on the watch, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water and wipe dry.
- Level V watches can be used during diving operations (except for depths requiring helium-oxygen gas mixtures).
- Some water-resistant watches are equipped with leather straps. Do not wear these models while swimming or in any other situation where the strap may be submerged in water.
Precautions for Use
- Do not expose the watch to aggressive reagents such as gasoline, cleaning agents, or aerosols. Chemical reactions with such agents can damage gaskets, the case, and the polishing.
- Some watch bracelets have their specifications printed on them. Be careful not to erase them when cleaning such bracelets.
- For watches with plastic bracelets: A whitish powdery residue may appear on the bracelet. This substance is harmless to your skin or clothing and can be removed with a wipe. If moisture is left on a plastic bracelet or if such watches are left in a high-humidity environment, the bracelet may warp, crack, or tear. To preserve the plastic bracelet, wipe off dirt or moisture with a soft cloth as soon as possible.
- For watches with fluorescent bracelets and cases: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may cause the fluorescence color to fade. Wipe off moisture from the surface as soon as possible. Prolonged contact of a wet watch with any other surface may cause discoloration of the fluorescent coating. Ensure the fluorescent surface is dry and avoid contact with other surfaces. Strong rubbing of a surface with a printed fluorescent pattern against another surface may cause the fluorescent paint to transfer to that surface.
CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD. is not responsible for any damage that may occur during the use of this watch and does not accept any claims from third parties.

- Normally, the alarm sounds for 10 seconds when the countdown finishes. If the starting time is 10 seconds or less, the alarm sounds for only one second.
- Frequent use of auto-repeat with short countdown times may drain the battery faster, potentially causing the countdown function and alarm to stop working.
Auto-EL Backlight Function
Your watch uses an electro-luminescent panel for illumination, making the display easy to read in the dark. The watch also features an automatic backlight that activates when you turn your wrist towards you.
For this function to work, it must be turned on (indicated by the [AUTO EL Indicator]).
Manual Backlight Activation
- In any mode, press [Button L] to illuminate the screen for two seconds.
- This operation illuminates the watch regardless of whether the auto-backlight is on.
How to Activate Auto-Backlight
Enabling this function causes the watch to illuminate each time you turn your wrist towards you, as shown in the diagram, in any mode.
Important: The auto-backlight on these watches only activates when it is sufficiently dark. It will not activate in bright light.
Diagram: Shows a hand turning a watch towards the face, indicating the angle for auto-backlight activation.
- When the auto-backlight is operating, wear the watch on the outside of your left wrist.
- Position your hand so the watch is horizontal, then turn your wrist towards you by approximately 40 degrees. This will activate the backlight.
Note: The backlight will turn off automatically after 2 seconds, even if you keep your hand in the same position. The backlight may not activate if your hand is turned more than 15 degrees from the parallel position to the left or right. Ensure your hand is parallel to the ground.
Static electricity or magnetic fields can interfere with the proper operation of the auto-backlight. If the auto-backlight does not work, try returning the watch to its starting position (parallel to the ground) and turning it back towards you. If this does not help, shake your hand downwards vigorously and then return it to the original position.
In certain conditions, the backlight may activate up to 1 second after you perform the above actions. This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.
Battery
This model is equipped with a solar power system and a rechargeable battery that is charged by electricity generated from solar energy.
The surface of the watch face, outside the LCD, acts as a solar panel that converts sunlight into electrical energy, which then charges the rechargeable battery. Power saving mode helps conserve battery power.
Diagram: Shows the watch face with the solar panel area and a battery indicator.
Important!
- Storing the watch in darkness for extended periods, wearing it on the inside of your wrist, or covering it with clothing will rapidly deplete the battery. Ensure the watch is exposed to light whenever possible.
- Your watch contains a solar power element that converts solar energy into electricity to charge the built-in rechargeable battery. Normally, the rechargeable battery does not require replacement. However, after many years of use (over several years), the rechargeable battery may lose its ability to fully recharge. If this problem occurs, contact your CASIO dealer or distributor for a battery replacement.
- The rechargeable battery must be replaced only with a special ML-2016 battery. Using a different type of battery may cause the watch to malfunction.
Battery Power Indicator
The battery power indicator on the screen shows the current charge level of the rechargeable battery.
Diagram: Shows the battery indicator levels.
Level | Indicator | Functional Status |
---|---|---|
1 | [Full Battery Icon] | All functions available |
2 | [Medium Battery Icon] | All functions available |
3 | [Low Battery Icon] | All functions available |
4 | [Flashing Low Battery Icon] | Alarms, hourly chime, backlight, and display readings are not available. Timekeeping and stopwatch operations continue. Pressing any button will briefly display the current time for 2-3 minutes. |
5 | [Empty Battery Icon] | No functions are available. Functions will resume if the rechargeable battery is charged, but data previously stored in memory will be lost. Therefore, you will need to reset the current time and alarms, and re-enter Phone Book data. |
If the watch is exposed to direct sunlight or other very strong light sources, the battery power indicator may temporarily show a higher level than the actual charge. The correct indicator should appear after a few minutes.
Frequent use of the backlight and alarms places a heavy load on the battery, which may cause the power indicator to flash, indicating that backlight and alarm functions are unavailable. Normal operation is usually restored after the battery charge level returns to normal. This state may occur after approximately 200 backlight operations and 360 alarm operations.
Precautions for Charging
Warning
Charging the watch under direct sunlight may cause it to malfunction due to overheating.
- On a car dashboard parked in the sun.
- Too close to an incandescent lamp.
- Under direct sunlight or intense heat for extended periods.
Charging Recommendations
Approximate charging times, assuming backlight is used for 2 seconds and alarms sound for 20 seconds per day.
Light Exposure | Approximate Charging Time |
---|---|
Daylight outdoors (50,000 lux) | 5 minutes |
Daylight through window (10,000 lux) | 25 minutes |
Daylight through window on a cloudy day (5,000 lux) | 50 minutes |
Indoors with fluorescent lighting (500 lux) | 8 hours |
