Safe Sense™ Technology

Safe Sense™ Technology is a breakthrough safety feature that stops shredding when hands are detected too close to the shredder opening. The Safe Sense™ light will illuminate, and the shredder will stop. An override switch is available for use only when a jam occurs and the Safe Sense™ light remains on. When the override switch is engaged, the Safe Sense™ light flashes, and the safety feature is temporarily disabled.

The shredder head contains the following components:

• Shredder head
• Sheet capacity gauge
• Safe Sense™ override switch
• Waste opening
• Handle
• Pivoting head
• Safety flap
• Easy emptying mechanism

Operation

For easy disposal, insert a waste bag (Fellowes #36052) into the bin.

Shredding Paper:

1. Ensure the shredder is set to [Off] (0) and plugged in.
2. Check the paper amount against the sheet capacity gauge.
3. Set the control switch to [Auto-On] (I).
4. Feed the paper into the paper entry and release. The shredder will automatically start.

Shredding Credit Cards:

1. Ensure the shredder is set to [Off] (0) and plugged in.
2. Set the control switch to [Auto-On] (I).
3. Hold the credit card at the edge.
4. Feed the credit card into the center of the entry and release. The shredder will automatically start.

Continuous Operation: The shredder is designed for 5-7 minutes of maximum continuous operation. After this period, the motor will require a 20-minute cool-down period. The shredder runs briefly after each pass to clear the entry.

Testing Safe Sense™ Technology:

1. Press the [Auto-On] (I) button.
2. Touch the test area.
3. The sensor light will illuminate, indicating the Safe Sense™ feature is active.

*Performance based on 20lb., 8.5"x11" paper at 120v, 60Hz, 2.0 Amps. Heavier paper, humidity, or other than rated voltage may reduce capacity. Recommended daily usage rates: 10-20 paper passes; 10 cards.

Important Safety Instructions

Read these instructions before using the shredder.

⚠️ WARNING

• Keep away from children and pets. Always unplug the shredder when not in use.
• Keep foreign objects such as gloves, jewelry, clothing, and hair away from the shredder openings. If an object enters the top opening, switch to [Reverse] (R) to back out the object.
• Never use aerosol, petroleum-based, or other flammable products on or near the shredder. Do not use canned air on the shredder.
• Do not use the shredder if it is damaged or defective. Do not open the shredder head. Do not place the shredder near or over a heat or water source.
• Shred a maximum of 8 sheets per pass to avoid jams.
• Avoid touching exposed blades under the Confetti-Cut shredder head.
• The grounded socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible.

Troubleshooting

Paper Jam:

1. Set the control switch to [Off] (0).
2. Remove the shredder head and empty the bin.
3. Replace the shredder head.
4. Follow the procedures below:
5. Set the control switch to [Reverse] (R) for 2-3 seconds.
6. Alternate slowly back and forth between [Auto-On] (I) and [Reverse] (R).
7. If the jam persists, set the control switch to [Off] (0) and unplug the shredder. Gently pull any uncut paper from the paper entry.
8. Plug the shredder back in and set to [Auto-On] (I).

Shredder Doesn't Start:

• If the Safe Sense™ light is yellow, it indicates Safe Sense™ is active.
• If the Safe Sense™ light is flashing yellow, it indicates Safe Sense™ is not active (override engaged).
• Ensure the shredder head is correctly placed on the basket.
• Wait 20 minutes for the motor to cool down if it has overheated.
• Remove and empty the basket if it is full.
• If the Safe Sense™ light remains on after clearing a jam, you must engage the override switch to perform the troubleshooting steps.

Maintenance

Follow the oiling procedure below and repeat twice.

1. Run the shredder regularly in reverse for one minute.
2. Oil the shredder when the bin is full, or immediately if:
• Capacity decreases
• Motor sounds different
• Shredder stops running
3. Set the control switch to [Off] (0).
4. Apply oil across the paper entry.
5. Set the control switch to [Auto-On] (I) and shred one sheet of paper.
6. Set the control switch to [Reverse] (R) for 2-3 seconds.

*Only use a non-aerosol vegetable oil in a long nozzle container.

Warranty Information

Limited Warranty: Fellowes, Inc. ("Fellowes") warrants the cutting blades of the machine to be free from defects in material and workmanship for 3 years from the date of purchase by the original consumer. Fellowes warrants all other parts of the machine to be free of defects in material and workmanship for 1 year from the date of purchase by the original consumer.

If any part is found to be defective during the warranty period, the sole and exclusive remedy will be repair or replacement, at Fellowes' option and expense, of the defective part. This warranty does not apply in cases of abuse, mishandling, or unauthorized repair.

Any implied warranty, including that of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, is hereby limited in duration to the appropriate warranty period set forth above. In no event shall Fellowes be liable for any consequential or incidental damages attributable to this product.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights. The duration, terms, and conditions of this warranty are valid worldwide, except where different limitations, restrictions, or conditions may be required by local law.
