Product Maintenance
Oiling Shredder
All micro-cut shredders require oil for peak performance. Failure to oil can lead to diminished sheet capacity, increased noise, and eventual shutdown. Fellowes recommends oiling the shredder each time the waste bin is emptied.
Oiling Procedure (Repeat Twice):
- Apply oil across the paper entry [Apply oil across entry].
- Press and hold the forward button [Press and Hold Forward] (▷) for 2-3 seconds.
CAUTION: Only use a non-aerosol vegetable oil in a long nozzle container, such as Fellowes 35250.
Cleaning Auto-Start Infrared Sensors
Paper detection sensors are designed for maintenance-free operation. However, paper dust can occasionally block the sensors, causing the motor to run even when no paper is present. Two paper detection sensors are located in the center of the paper entry.
To Clean the Sensors:
- Turn OFF [OFF] (0) and unplug the shredder [Turn OFF and Unplug].
- Locate the auto-start infrared sensor [Locate Sensor].
- Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol [Dip Swab in Alcohol].
- Using the cotton swab, wipe away any contamination from the paper sensors [Wipe Sensors].
Troubleshooting
Overheat Indicator: When the Overheat Indicator is illuminated, the shredder has exceeded its maximum operating temperature and requires a cool-down period. The indicator will remain lit, and the shredder will not operate until the recovery time is complete. Refer to Basic Shredding Operation for details on continuous operation and recovery time.
Remove Paper: When the Remove Paper indicator is illuminated, press the reverse button [Reverse Button] ↶ and remove any jammed paper. Reduce the quantity of paper for the next pass to an acceptable amount.
