Important Safety Instructions
Read all safety instructions before using the shredder.
- Operation, maintenance, and service requirements are covered in the full instruction manual.
- Keep away from children and pets. Keep hands and foreign objects (gloves, jewelry, clothing, hair, etc.) away from the paper entry and shredder openings.
- Always set the switch to Off (O) or unplug the shredder when not in use.
- If an object enters the top opening, use the Reverse (KK) function to back it out.
- Do not use aerosol products, petroleum-based or aerosol lubricants on or near the shredder. Do not use "Canned Air" or "Air Dusters" on the shredder, as propellants can be flammable.
- Do not use if damaged or defective. Do not disassemble the shredder.
- Do not place the shredder near or over heat sources or water.
- Avoid touching exposed cutting blades under the shredder head.
- Ensure the shredder is plugged into a properly grounded wall outlet with the correct voltage and amperage as indicated on the label. Do not use energy converters, transformers, or extension cords.
- FIRE HAZARD: Do NOT shred greeting cards with sound chips or batteries.
- For indoor use only.
- Unplug the shredder before cleaning or servicing.
Basic Shredding Operation
Continuous Operation: Up to 4-minute maximum. The shredder may run briefly after each pass to clear the entry. Continuous operation beyond 4 minutes will trigger a 30-minute cool-down period.
- Plug in the shredder and set the control switch to Auto-On (►).
- Feed paper or card straight into the paper entry and release.
- When finished shredding, set the control switch to Off (O).
Safety Lock: To prevent accidental operation, wait for shredding to stop, set the control switch to Off (O), and slide the black button down. To unlock, slide the black button up. For added safety, always unplug the shredder after use.
Product Maintenance: Oiling the Shredder
All cross-cut shredders require oiling for peak performance. Failure to oil can lead to reduced sheet capacity, noisy operation, and eventual failure. Fellowes recommends oiling the shredder each time the waste bin is emptied.
Oiling Procedure (Repeat Twice):
- Set the control switch to Off (O).
- Apply oil across the paper entry.
- Set the control switch to Reverse (◼) for 2-3 seconds.
Use only non-aerosol vegetable oil in a long nozzle container, such as Fellowes #35250.
