Free Area (Fig. D-0)
Adequate space is a prerequisite for use. The free area should be no less than 100 cm greater than the training area in the directions from which the equipment is accessed. The free area must also include space for emergency dismount. Where equipment is positioned adjacent to each other, the value of the free area may be shared.
Usage and Exercise Guidelines
Weight Plate Storage Bars
- When using the weight plate storage bars, ensure sufficient locking supports are used to secure weight plates at all times.
- When storing weight plates, divide them evenly over the left and right side.
- Never exceed the maximum weight capacity of the weight plate storage bar.
Muscle Building and Gaining Weight
Unlike aerobic exercise, which emphasizes endurance training, anaerobic exercise focuses on strength training. Gradual weight gain can occur while building muscle size and strength. Your body adapts to the stress placed upon it. Modify your diet to include foods like meat, fish, and vegetables to help muscles recover and replenish nutrients.
Muscle Strength and Endurance
To achieve the greatest benefit from exercise, develop a program that works all major muscle groups equally. To increase muscle strength, increase resistance while maintaining repetition count. To tone your body, decrease resistance and increase repetition count.
Once comfortable with an exercise, you can adjust resistance, repetitions, or speed. Lifting more weight fewer times typically develops muscle strength. For both strength and endurance, aim for 15-20 repetitions per set.
Training Intensity
Training intensity depends on your overall fitness level. Soreness can be lessened by decreasing load and performing fewer sets. Gradually increase load as fitness improves to avoid injury. Muscle soreness is common initially; persistent pain may indicate injury.
Beginning a Strength Building Program
- Warm-up: 5-10 minutes of stretching and light exercise to increase circulation, body temperature, and oxygen supply to muscles.
- Workout: Be mindful that prolonged muscle soreness is undesirable and may indicate injury.
- Cool Down: 5-10 minutes of slow stretching exercises to allow muscles to wind down.
- For a complete program, include 2-3 days of aerobic exercise alongside strength training.
Drinking Water
Proper hydration is crucial for body function. Increase fluid intake during exercise, as water is lost through sweat. Replace lost water for muscle recovery.
Rest Day
Take at least one rest day per week to allow the body to heal. Continuous training can lead to overtraining.
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Lubricate moving parts periodically with WD-40 or light oil.
- Inspect and tighten all parts before use.
- Clean the equipment with a damp cloth and mild, non-abrasive detergent. Do not use solvents.
- Regularly examine the equipment for signs of damage or wear.
- Replace defective components immediately or discontinue use until repaired.
- Failure to examine regularly may affect safety.
