Garage Door Opener Remote Control
Remote Control for Garage Doors
This guide provides instructions for programming and using a remote control for garage doors. The remote is located in the rearview mirror and can be programmed to operate various radio-controlled devices, including garage doors, gates, home lighting, and security systems.
Important Safety Precautions:
- Do not use the remote to control garage doors that do not have an emergency stop and reverse motion function, as required by safety regulations.
- Ensure there are no obstructions in front of the garage or driveway doors when programming the remote to prevent property damage.
- The device may be susceptible to interference from mobile or stationary transmitters.
In some countries, this system is known as the HomeLink® Universal Transceiver.
For additional information, refer to Section 61, Information and Support.
Before Programming
Programming:
- When programming, it may be necessary to press the buttons on the original remote control multiple times. It is recommended to turn off the power to the gate operator during the programming cycle to prevent potential damage to the electric motor.
- It is recommended to insert a new battery into the original remote control before starting the programming process.
- If the receiver for the garage door opener (located in the garage) has an antenna, ensure the antenna is pointed strictly downwards.
Programming Procedure
With the engine off:
- Ensure the ignition is turned on.
- Position the garage door opener remote control 50–150 mm (2–6 inches) from the transceiver in the rearview mirror, ensuring the indicator light is in view.
- Simultaneously press and hold the desired button on the rearview mirror and the button on the original remote control. Hold both buttons. The indicator will begin to flash slowly, then rapidly. Release the buttons when the indicator flashes rapidly. Rapid flashing indicates successful programming.
- If the indicator does not flash rapidly within 60 seconds, release the buttons on the transmitter and the original remote control, and repeat the procedure starting from step 2. Try positioning the original remote control at a different angle or distance.
- Press and hold the programmed button on the garage door opener remote control and observe the indicator.
- If the indicator lights up continuously, programming is complete, and the device you intend to control remotely will operate with a 1–2 second button press.
- If the indicator flashes rapidly for two seconds and then lights up continuously, programming is complete. If the indicator flashes rapidly for two seconds and then lights up continuously, you may need to program using the instructions for rolling code devices, as described below.
Deleting a Program
For the first programming, turn off the car engine.
- Ensure the ignition is on (but the engine is not running).
- Press and hold the two outermost buttons on the rearview mirror remote control. Hold the buttons until the indicator begins to flash (this will take approximately 20 seconds), then release the buttons.
All programmed remote control settings for garage door openers are now erased. Note: This procedure should not be performed when programming buttons for an additional remote control for garage door openers.
Programming with Rolling Code
Note: Having assistance will significantly simplify the following steps. For step 3, you will have only 30 seconds after pressing the button.
- Locate the button/switch labeled “learn” or “smart” on the garage door opener unit. The label may vary depending on the equipment manufacturer.
- Press and release the button labeled “learn” or “smart”.
- Return to the vehicle, press and hold the programmable key for two seconds, then release.
- Repeat the “press/hold/release” sequence three times to complete the programming process.
The garage door opener remote control in the rearview mirror should now operate the rolling code device.
Reprogramming a Single Button for Garage Door Opener Control
To program a device to a previously programmed button:
- Press and hold the previously programmed button on the garage door opener remote control for at least 20 and no more than 30 seconds, until the indicator begins to flash rapidly.
- Without releasing the button on the rearview mirror, position the remote control approximately 50–150 mm (2–6 inches) from the transceiver in the rearview mirror, ensuring the indicator light is in view.
- Perform Step 3 of the Programming section.
Programming Driveway Gates
Programming driveway gates for some manufacturers requires repeatedly pressing the original remote control button every 2 seconds.
Hold down the button on the rearview mirror remote control, repeatedly pressing the original remote control button until the indicator flashes rapidly.
Information and Support
Note: Before selling or disposing of the vehicle, it is recommended to erase the programming from the remote control on the overhead console for safety reasons.
