Radio Remote Control for Garage Doors

Remote Control for Garage Doors

This device can be affected by interference when used in areas with mobile or stationary transmitters. This type of interference affects the operation of handheld remotes and car remotes equally.

The remote control is located in the rearview mirror. It can be programmed to operate on three different frequencies, allowing you to remotely control driveway gates, garage doors, home lighting, security systems, and other radio-controlled devices.

Although this section describes how to use the garage door opener remote, its use is no different from the aforementioned devices. In some countries, this system is called HomeLink® Universal Transceiver.

For additional information, refer to Section 54, INFORMATION AND SUPPORT.

BEFORE BEGINNING PROGRAMMING

During the programming process, you may need to repeatedly press the buttons on the handheld remote. For safety during the cycle, it is recommended to turn off the power to the gate operator to prevent possible damage to the electric motor.

Before programming the garage door opener remote or other device, it is recommended to insert a new battery into the handheld remote. If the receiver of the garage door opener remote (located in the garage) has an antenna, ensure the antenna is directed strictly downwards.

PROGRAMMING

With the engine off:

  1. Ensure the ignition is on.
  2. Hold the garage door opener remote 50–150 mm (2–6 inches) from the transmitter in the rearview mirror, ensuring the indicator light remains in view.
  3. Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold the desired button on the rearview mirror and the button on the handheld remote. Hold both buttons. The indicator will begin to flash: first slowly, then quickly. Release the buttons when the indicator flashes quickly. Quick flashing of the indicator indicates successful programming.
  4. If the indicator does not start flashing quickly within 60 seconds, release the buttons on the transmitter and handheld remote and repeat the procedure starting from step 2. Position the handheld remote at a different angle or distance.
  5. Press and hold the programmed garage door opener remote button and observe the indicator.
    • If the indicator lights up continuously, programming is complete, and the device you intend to control remotely will operate with a 1–2 second button press.
    • If the indicator flashes quickly for two seconds and then lights up continuously, programming must be performed using the programming instructions for rolling code devices, as outlined below.

DELETING A PROGRAM

When first programming, turn off the car engine.

  1. Ensure the ignition is on (but the engine is not running).
  2. Press and hold the two outer buttons of the remote control on the rearview mirror. Hold the buttons down until the indicator begins to flash (this will take approximately 20 seconds), then release the buttons.

All garage door opener remote programs are now erased. Note: This procedure should not be performed when programming buttons for an additional garage door opener remote.

PROGRAMMING ROLLING CODE DEVICES

Note: Having a helper will significantly simplify the following steps: for step 3, you will have only 30 seconds after pressing the button.

  1. Locate the button/switch labeled “learn” or “smart” on the garage door opener unit.
    • The label on the button/switch may vary depending on the equipment manufacturer.
  2. Press and release the button labeled “learn” or “smart”.
  3. Return to your car, press and hold the programmable key for two seconds, then release.
  4. Repeat the “press/hold/release” sequence three times in a row to complete the programming process.

The garage door opener remote in the rearview mirror should now control the rolling code device.

REPROGRAMMING A SINGLE BUTTON OF THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER REMOTE

To program a device to a previously programmed button:

  1. Press and hold the previously programmed garage door opener remote button for at least 20 seconds and no more than 30 seconds, until the indicator begins to flash rapidly.
  2. Without releasing the button on the rearview mirror, position the remote control approximately 50–150 mm (2–6 inches) from the transmitter in the rearview mirror, ensuring the indicator light remains in view.
  3. Complete Step 3 of the Programming section.

PROGRAMMING DRIVEWAY GATES

Programming driveway gates for some manufacturers requires pressing the handheld remote button every 2 seconds. Hold down the button on the rearview mirror remote, repeatedly pressing the handheld remote button until the indicator flashes quickly.
