Alphacool NexXxoS GPX-A 270-M01 GPU Cooler Installation Guide
Important Notes
- Ensure your hardware and cooling system are functioning correctly (tightness, pump, fans) before proceeding. This minimizes troubleshooting time. Alphacool is not liable for manufacturer warranties of electronic components. Assembly is at your own risk.
- Do not overtighten screws. Excessive tightening can loosen mounting bolts, preventing uniform cooler contact.
- Avoid using tools like wrenches for fastening connectors. Connectors with 8mm thread length may restrict flow.
- Perform a leak test before assembling or installing the cooler. Do not use tools on connectors.
- Verify that the cooler makes contact with all components requiring cooling, using thermal paste and pads. The image shows the expected imprint of a GPU for proper contact.
Screw Set Components
- 12x M3x12 screws
- 1x 15mm x 15mm x 1.5mm thermal pads
- 2x 30mm x 30mm x 1.5mm thermal pads
- 8x 15mm x 15mm x 2mm thermal pads
- 2x 30mm x 30mm x 3mm thermal pads
- 1x Backplate
Assembly Steps
Step 1: Disassembly
Place the hardware on an antistatic mat. Begin by dismantling the original cooler. Depending on the cooler's design, remove fan screws and detach any covers. Exercise extreme caution with coolers attached by thermal glue, as components can be easily damaged. Carefully collect all removed parts. Clean the hardware of any thermal paste or pad residue using a solvent like alcohol.
Step 2: Thermal Paste Application
Using a plastic strip or spreader, apply an even layer of thermal paste to the GPU. The layer should be less than one millimeter thick to prevent unnecessary contamination of surrounding components.
Step 3: Thermal Pad Placement (Memory & VRMs)
Remove the protective film from the red-marked 15mm x 15mm x 1.5mm thermal pads and place them on the memory chips. The red-marked 30mm x 30mm x 1.5mm thermal pads for the voltage converters must be trimmed to size. Remember to remove the protective film from both sides of all pads.
Step 4: Cooler Mounting
Mount the assembled cooler onto the graphics card as shown in the image. If a protective film is present on the cooler base, remove it now. Clean the cooler's contact surfaces with alcohol or a similar agent to ensure they are free of contaminants.
Step 5: Rear Thermal Pad Placement
Cut the yellow-marked thermal pads for the back of the card as illustrated. These pads are to be placed on the rear side of the voltage converters and the GPU. Ensure you remove the protective film from both sides.
Step 6: Backplate Installation
Position the backplate on the graphics card as depicted. Apply slight pressure to ensure optimal contact between the backplate, cooler, and graphics card.
Step 7: Final Assembly and Tightening
Screw the cooler together. Tighten the screws crosswise, one turn at a time, following the provided instructions. Re-tighten all screws after approximately 12 hours of graphics card usage.
⚠ Safety Advice
- Not suitable for children under 6 years (contains small, swallowable parts).
- Never operate cooling components without ensuring coolant flows through the system. Coolers operated without coolant can overheat, posing a burn hazard, and can destroy computer hardware. Always confirm the pump is functioning when the hardware is powered on.
- Do not use tools (e.g., wrenches, pliers) to tighten connectors. All plastic or metal-threaded connections attached to plastic parts can be easily overloaded by tools, leading to cracks, damage, or leaks. Such damages, or damages from leaking coolant, are not covered by warranty. Use only connectors with a sealing ring; hand-tightening is sufficient. Tools are only permitted if explicitly indicated in the instructions for exceptional cases.
