Important Notes & Warnings
Before proceeding with the installation, please ensure your hardware and cooling system are functioning correctly, including tightness, pump function, and fans. This minimizes troubleshooting effort. Alphacool does not assume warranty for the manufacturer of electronic components. Assembly of the cooling system is at your own risk.
- Do not overtighten screws. Overtightening can loosen mounting bolts, preventing uniform cooler contact.
- Avoid using tools like wrenches for fastening connections. Connectors with 8mm thread length may restrict flow.
- Perform a leak test before assembling/installing the cooler. The water pressure in the loop should not exceed 0.8 Bar.
- Ensure the cooler makes contact with all components to be cooled using thermal grease and thermal pads. The correct imprint on the GPU indicates proper contact.
Safety Advice: Not suitable for children under 6 years (contains small, swallowable parts). Never operate cooling components without ensuring coolant flows through the system. Coolers without coolant flow can overheat, posing a burn hazard, and can damage computer hardware. Always verify the pump is functioning when the hardware is powered on.
When tightening connectors, do not use tools like wrenches or pliers. Plastic or metal threaded connections linked with plastic parts can be easily overloaded, leading to cracks or damage. Such damage, or damage from leaking coolant, is not covered by warranty. Use only connectors with a sealing ring; hand-tightening is sufficient. Tools are only permitted when explicitly indicated in the instructions.
Intended Use: Alphacool International GmbH cooling components are approved for cooling Alphacool International GmbH computer components. Warranty is void for non-intended use.
Screw Set and Components
The following components are included in the screw set:
Quantity | Description | Specification |
---|---|---|
8x | Screws | M3x12 |
2x | Screws | M3x8 |
2x | Screws | SW2 & SW2,5 |
8x | Thermal Pad | 15mm x 15mm x 1.5mm |
1x | Thermal Pad | 30mm x 30mm x 1.5mm |
9x | Thermal Pad | 15mm x 15mm x 3mm |
1x | Thermal Pad | 30mm x 30mm x 3mm |
Installation Steps
Step 1: Preparation and Disassembly
Place the hardware on an antistatic mat. Begin by dismantling the original cooler. Depending on the cooler's design, you may need to remove fan screws and unhook the fan connector. Exercise extreme caution if the original cooler is attached with thermal glue, as components can be easily torn off. Carefully collect all removed parts. Clean the hardware of any thermal paste or pad residues using a solvent like alcohol.
Step 2: Apply Thermal Paste to GPU
Using a plastic strip or a thermal paste spreader, apply an even layer of thermal paste to the GPU. The layer should be less than one millimeter thick to prevent unnecessary contamination of surrounding components.
Step 3: Place Thermal Pads (Red)
Remove the protective film from the red thermal pads (15mm x 15mm x 1.5mm). Place these pads onto the memory chips as indicated.
Step 4: Mount the Cooler
Mount the assembled cooler onto the graphics card as shown in the diagram. If there is a protective film on the cooler's base, remove it now. Clean the contact surfaces on the cooler's base with alcohol or a similar agent to ensure they are free of contaminants.
Step 5: Apply Thermal Pads (Yellow) and Initial Screw Installation
Cut the yellow thermal pads for the backplate as shown in the diagram. Place these pads on the rear side of the voltage converters and the GPU. Remember to remove the protective film from both sides of the pads. Loosely screw in the screws with washers into the cooler; do not tighten them fully yet.
Step 6: Install Backplate
Place the backplate onto the graphics card as depicted. Apply slight pressure to ensure optimal contact between the backplate, cooler, and graphics card.
Step 7: Final Cooler Assembly
Screw the cooler together. Finger-tighten the screws with one turn each, working in a crosswise pattern. Refer to the specific instructions for correct tightening. After approximately 12 hours of using the graphics card, re-tighten all screws.
