Portable Devices
Connecting Portable Devices
Portable devices connect to the unit located in the glove compartment. The audio system can connect to the following portable devices:
- USB drives (e.g., flash memory cards). The drive must use the FAT or FAT32 file system.
- iPod® devices (iPod Classic®, iPod Touch®, iPhone®, and iPod Nano®). Full functionality is not guaranteed for earlier models. iPod Shuffle® functionality is not guaranteed.
- Other portable devices (personal audio players, MP3 players, and all iPod® models).
When connecting an iPod® or a USB drive, you can control the devices and search for content using the touchscreen. Many of the control buttons are similar to those used for CD playback.
Important Safety Information:
- When driving, ensure that all additional equipment is safely stowed.
- Do not place any devices connected to the auxiliary power socket or the additional power socket on the seats, carpets, or other upholstery.
- Before connecting devices to the vehicle's audio system, read the manufacturer's instructions.
- When leaving the vehicle, disconnect your iPod®. Failure to do so may result in the iPod® battery discharging.
- In environments with high ambient temperatures or direct sunlight, it is recommended to disconnect portable devices and remove them from the vehicle.
Note: The audio system plays MP3, WMA, and AAC file formats.
Playback from a Portable Device
For optimal playback quality for multimedia files on USB drives and iPod® devices, lossless compression is recommended. If using compressed files, the digital stream rate should be at least 192 kbps (a higher compression rate is strongly recommended).
Note: iPod® is a trademark of Apple Computer Inc., registered in the USA and other countries.
Note: Some MP3 players have their own file system that is not supported by this audio system. To use such an MP3 player, you must switch it to USB mass storage mode or large capacity drive mode. In this case, you can play music files transferred to the device only in these modes.
Note: The volume levels and sound quality of devices connected to the auxiliary inputs can vary significantly. If the connected audio device has a line-out and a headphone output, use the line-out.
If a USB drive or a compatible iPod® is used, you can control music playback using the touchscreen. If a portable device is connected to the AUX socket, you can control playback directly from the device itself.
Connecting Devices
When a USB device is connected, playback starts with the first track in the first folder. If the Portable Audio menu was selected before the device was connected, playback resumes from where it was last stopped.
The glove compartment contains sockets for connecting devices.
Note: To connect to the USB socket, use the cable supplied with the device. An iPod® cable can be purchased from Land Rover dealers.
- In the main audio system menu, select Portable Audio.
- Note: You can also press the MODE button several times to select Portable Audio.
- Select the required device (USB or iPod®). Playback will begin, and the control menu will open.
When an iPod® device is connected, playback resumes from where it was last stopped, provided the iPod® battery is not depleted.
When an additional device is connected, playback will begin after the device is turned on in playback mode.
Connecting Multiple Devices
- Only audio devices are permitted to be connected to the USB port.
- You can connect multiple devices to the portable device unit, switching between them using the touchscreen. To switch modes, press the USB or iPod buttons.
- The first connected device remains active until you switch to the next device.
- If you switch back to the first device after switching to another connected device, playback will resume from where it was stopped (only for USB and iPod® devices).
Note: USB hubs cannot be used to connect multiple USB devices to the audio system.
Note: Connecting devices to the iPod® and USB sockets will charge them, but completely discharged devices will not operate.
Note: Functions such as Repeat and Random playback apply to the current device. After switching to another device, they must be reactivated.
