Portable Devices
Connecting Portable Devices
Portable devices connect to the unit located in the glove compartment. The audio system supports the connection of various portable devices:
- USB Drives: Such as flash memory cards. The drive must be formatted with FAT or FAT32 file system.
- iPod® Devices: Supports iPod Classic®, iPod Touch®, iPhone®, and iPod Nano®. Full functionality for earlier models is not guaranteed. iPod Shuffle® functionality is not guaranteed.
- Other Portable Devices: Including personal audio players, MP3 players, and all iPod® models.
When connecting an iPod® or USB drive, you can control the devices and search for music using the touchscreen. Many of the control buttons are similar to those used for CD playback.
Important Safety Information:
- Ensure that any additional equipment is safely placed while driving to avoid distraction.
- Do not place any devices connected to the auxiliary power socket or additional power sockets on the seats, carpets, or other upholstery.
- Always read the manufacturer's instructions before connecting devices to the car's audio system.
- When leaving the vehicle, disconnect your iPod® to prevent battery drain.
- In high ambient temperatures or direct sunlight, it is recommended to disconnect portable devices and remove them from the vehicle.
Audio System Compatibility
The audio system supports playback of MP3, WMA, and AAC audio files. For optimal playback quality, it is recommended to use lossless compression for multimedia files on USB and iPod® devices. If using compressed files, the digital stream rate should be at least 192 kbit/s (higher is recommended).
Note: iPod® is a trademark of Apple Computer Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.
Some MP3 players may have their own file system that is not supported by this audio system. To use such MP3 players, you may need to set them to USB Mass Storage mode or Large Capacity Storage mode. In these modes, you can only play music files transferred to the devices in these specific modes.
Playback and Control
When using a USB drive or a compatible iPod®, you can control music playback using the touchscreen.
If you are using a portable device connected via the AUX jack, you will control playback directly from the device itself.
Connecting Devices:
- To connect to the USB socket, use the cable supplied with the device. The iPod® cable can be purchased from Land Rover dealers.
- In the audio system's main menu, select "Portable audio" to access connected devices. You can also cycle through modes by pressing the MODE button.
- Select the desired device (USB or iPod®). Playback will begin, and the control menu will appear.
Playback Behavior:
- When connecting an iPod®, playback resumes from where it was last stopped, provided the iPod® battery is not depleted.
- When connecting a USB drive, playback starts from the first track in the first folder. If a device was already connected when you selected "Portable Audio" from the menu, playback resumes from the last stopped position.
- For other connected devices, playback will begin after the device is turned on and set to playback mode.
Device Charging:
Devices connected to the iPod® and USB ports will be charged. However, fully discharged devices may not operate.
Managing Multiple Devices
The USB port allows connection of only one audio device at a time.
You can connect multiple devices to the portable device unit and switch between them using the touchscreen. Use the USB or iPod buttons to switch modes.
The first connected device remains active until you switch to another device. If you switch back to a previously connected device (USB or iPod®), playback will resume from the point where it was stopped.
Note: USB hubs cannot be used to connect multiple USB devices to the audio system.
Playback Modes:
Functions like Repeat (Повтор) and Random (Воспроизведение в случайном порядке) apply to the current device. After switching to another device, these functions need to be reactivated.
- Random: Press and release to play tracks in the current folder randomly. Press and hold for two seconds to play all tracks on the device randomly.
- Repeat: Press and release to repeat the current track. Press and hold for two seconds to repeat all tracks on the device.
Navigating and Searching
Use the "next/previous" buttons and the fast forward/rewind controls on the steering wheel for searching tracks.
Device Browsing (iPod®/USB):
- Select to browse the contents of the connected device, organized by its file structure.
- Select a file to play. The browse window will remain open. Select a folder to view its contents.
- Use "Page jump" for quick navigation through long lists.
- Press the "back" soft key to return to the control menu.
Auxiliary Input Jack
The 3.5 mm AUX jack allows you to connect external audio equipment, such as personal stereo players, MP3 players, or portable navigation devices, to the car's audio system.
The adjacent power socket can be used to power or charge electrical devices.
Note: iPod Shuffle® can be connected via the auxiliary jack.
Vehicles equipped with a multimedia system may have additional audio/video jacks (AV1 and AV2) in the rear. These allow connection of various external equipment, such as game consoles, to the rear DVD screens. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for installation details.
Selecting Auxiliary Input:
To listen to music from an auxiliary device, select "Portable Audio" on the touchscreen, then "AUX" (Auxiliary Input).
Playback will start once the device is turned on and set to playback mode.
Note: Volume levels and sound quality for devices connected to auxiliary inputs can vary significantly.
