Battery Disposal: Paslode batteries contain cadmium and must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local recycling center or call 1-800-822-8837 for information on Ni-Cd battery recycling.
Battery and Charging System
The Paslode Cordless tools use a rechargeable battery and charging system. New batteries must be fully charged before first use. Charging time varies from 5 minutes to 2 hours depending on battery discharge level.
Important Charging Notes:
- Chemical/Explosion Hazard: Read all instructions before charging or using the battery. Failure to follow instructions may result in fire, severe burns, or release of toxic materials.
- Charging Instructions:
- Connect the wall mount unit to a 120V AC outlet and the charger base. A green light indicates power.
- Insert the battery into the charger. The red light indicates charging; the green light goes out.
- A fully charged battery shows a solid green light. The charger maintains a full charge until the battery is removed.
- Unplug the charger when not in use.
- Charging Times: First charge (new battery): 2 hours. Discharged battery: 5 minutes to 2 hours.
- Charging Don'ts: Do not charge outdoors or below 40°F (5°C). Do not allow metal objects to contact battery terminals. Do not puncture or open the battery case. Do not store batteries above 120°F (49°C). Do not incinerate batteries. Do not use a defective charger. Do not immerse the battery in water.
Battery Indicator Light: Located on the right side of the handle. A blinking green light indicates a fully charged battery. A blinking red light indicates the battery needs recharging.
Inserting Battery: Load the battery, contacts first, into the nailer. Push fully until locked. To remove, push the locking tab and slide the battery out.
Cleaning Terminals: If battery terminals become corroded, clean them with a soft cloth.
Fuel Cell and Metering Valve
The fuel cell contains fuel and propellant under pressure. The propellant squeezes the inner fuel container to eject fuel. Empty fuel cells should not be exposed to extreme temperatures.
Metering Valve:
The metering valve injects fuel into the combustion chamber. Only the metering valve with a yellow face is compatible with the Cordless 16 ga. Straight Finish Nailer.
Notes:
- Do not reuse the metering valve; replace with a fresh fuel cell/valve and dispose of the spent unit properly.
- When replacing the fuel cell, clean the air filter for optimal tool operation.
- Altitude Restriction: The tool may lose power at elevations above 4000 feet. For altitudes between 4000-9000 feet, use the blue high-altitude fuel metering valve (Part #219247).
Installing Metering Valve to Fuel Cell: Press the valve onto the fuel cell stem until it seats. The yellow adapter on the tool ensures proper alignment.
Fuel Cell Disposal: Discarded fuel cells may be considered hazardous waste. Users must comply with federal, state, and local solid waste regulations. Contact your local solid waste authority for guidance. Paslode is not responsible for proper fuel cell disposal.
Preparing the Paslode Cordless 16 ga. Straight Finish Nailer
Fasteners:
Use only Paslode 16 gauge straight fasteners designed for the tool. Using other fasteners may cause damage and void the warranty.
Loading Fasteners:
- Insert one or two strips of Paslode 16 Gauge Straight Finish Nails into the rear of the magazine and slide forward.
- Pull the follower back while applying pressure to the release lever until it passes the last strip of nails.
- Release the lever and allow the follower to push the nails forward into the nose of the tool.
Lockout Feature: The tool prevents "blank cycling" by leaving ten nails in the magazine. When the follower reaches the lockout area, the tool automatically locks. Reloading nails unlocks the tool. Inspect the magazine and nose for any remaining nails when changing fastener length or loading.
Outdoor Weather:
Use the nailer outdoors in dry weather between 20°F (-7°C) and 120°F (49°C).
Hot Weather Operation:
The tool requires cooling. If idle for extended periods, keep the tool and fuel out of direct sunlight. If the tool overheats after continuous use, set it aside for 10-15 minutes to cool.
Cold Weather Operation:
Bring the tool, fuel cell, and battery above 20°F (-7°C) before use, preferably in a heated building or vehicle. Never expose to flame.
Caution: Do not use the tool in rain or excessive moisture, as this may cause damage and malfunction.
Paslode Cordless 16 ga. Straight Finish Nailer Operation
Operation Steps:
- Press the work contacting element against the workpiece. The fan motor starts, injecting fuel into the combustion chamber, mixed with air by the fan.
- Squeeze the trigger. The spark plug ignites the fuel/air mixture, driving the piston assembly down on the fastener.
- Release the trigger and lift the tool. The combustion chamber opens, and the fan exhausts hot gases.
Depth of Drive Adjustment: Remove the battery before adjusting. Turn the adjustment wheel on the side of the tool to set the desired depth.
Danger: The work contacting element and nose can become hot after prolonged use. Avoid touching with bare hands.
Caution: Operate in a well-ventilated environment due to carbon monoxide exhaust.
Fasteners and Applications

Servicing
Restrict Field Service: Only perform the following procedures: checking battery energy level, recharging battery, checking fuel cell and metering valve, replacing fuel cell, cleaning/replacing air filter, and clearing a jam. For any other issues, contact a Paslode representative.
Danger: Never perform maintenance without first removing the fuel cell and battery. Start maintenance only after the tool is completely inoperative.
Fuel Cell Check: If the tool does not cycle or drive fasteners, check the fuel cell. Ensure it contains fuel and the metering valve is working. To test, hold the fuel cell upright and press the metering stem against a solid object. A small amount of fuel should be released.
Danger: Wear safety glasses during this test. Do not perform near open flame, sparks, or while smoking.
If no fuel is released, the fuel cell is empty and needs replacement. Dispose of the empty fuel cell properly.
Clearing a Jam:
- Remove the battery.
- Pull the latch, release the front guide, and pivot it forward.
- Clear the jam and push the driver blade back up.
- Close the front guide and latch it. Ensure the work contacting element moves freely.
Battery Check: Periodically check the battery indicator light. If the tool is not operating correctly, ensure the battery is sufficiently charged. When the work contacting element is depressed, the fan motor should turn on, and the indicator light should be solid green. A blinking red or solid red light indicates the battery needs recharging.
Air Filter: Open the grille, remove the air filter, tap gently to remove dust. Clean the filter every two days with soap and water for optimal performance.
End-of-Workday Routine:
- Remove the battery and store it in the tool case.
- Dispose of empty fuel cells properly, away from children and potential hazards.
When you get home:
- Place the battery in its charger if needed.
- Wipe the tool with a clean, soft cloth.
- Remove and clean the filter every two days.
- Check that the work contacting element operates freely.
