Required Tools

For assistance, contact Kwikset at 1-800-327-5625 or visit www.kwikset.com.

1. Prepare the Door and Check Dimensions

If drilling a new door, use the supplied template and complete door drilling instructions available at www.kwikset.com/doorprep.

A. Door Hole Diameter: Measure to confirm the hole in the door is 2-1/8" (54 mm).

B. Backset: Measure to confirm the backset is either 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" (60 or 70 mm).

C. Door Edge Hole: Measure to confirm the hole in the door edge is 1" (25 mm).

D. Door Thickness: Measure to confirm the door is between 1-3/8" and 1-3/4" (35 mm and 44 mm) thick.

Note: If installing this lever below an existing lock or planning to install a lock above it, ensure the distance between holes is at least 6-1/2" (165 mm).

2. Install the Latch and Strike

A. Install Latch: Hold the latch in front of the door hole with the latch face flush against the door edge.

B. Check Latch Hole Centering: If the latch holes are centered in the door hole, no adjustment is required. Proceed to the next step.

C. Chiseled Door Edge: If the door edge is chiseled, use a flathead screwdriver to lift tabs on the collar of the rectangular face to remove it from the latch, then install the drive-in collar. Align tabs with holes in the collar and ensure the collar snaps into place. Pull the collar to test for a tight fit.

D. Install Latch: Install the latch into the door using the supplied screws (N, 2x) or by using a wood block and hammer for the drive-in type. Ensure the slant of the latch bolt faces the door frame.

E. Install Strike: Install the strike (P, 2x) on the door frame.

3. Install the Exterior Keypad, Spindle, and Interior Assembly

A. Install Exterior Keypad: Install the exterior keypad (Q).

B. Install Spindle: Insert the spindle (F) into the lock mechanism, ensuring the rounded edge faces the latch.

C. Optional Security Set Screw: Install the optional security set screw (R). This locks the interior cover and prevents easy access to the battery and Program button.

D. Connect Cable: Route the cable (K) under the latch and connect it securely to the interior assembly. Route the cable through clips.

E. Install Interior Assembly: Install the interior assembly while holding the exterior assembly. Ensure the spindle fully engages with the interior assembly. Ensure a tight cable connection. Secure the interior assembly with mounting screws (Q, 2x). Ensure both interior and exterior assemblies are parallel to the door edge before securing. CAUTION: Do not use power tools. Note: Tighten screws evenly and do not overtighten.

Note: Make sure to keep your door open until you have programmed a user code.

4. Install Levers

A. Install Exterior Lever: Install the exterior lever (J1 or J2), ensuring the lever handle faces away from the latch and the hole is on the bottom.

B. Insert Key and Turn: Insert the key and turn it 90° clockwise.

C. Secure Exterior Lever: Tighten the pre-installed set screw on the exterior lever. Turn the key back to the vertical position and remove it. This step is necessary to access the set screw on the exterior lever.

D. Install Interior Lever: Install the interior lever (J1 or J2), ensuring the lever handle faces away from the latch.

E. Secure Interior Lever: Tighten the pre-installed set screw on the interior lever.

TIP: You may need to jiggle the handle while pushing to ensure it is fully engaged.

5. Test Latch Operation

Close the door and test the latch operation. Make adjustments as needed.

The small bolt of the latch should not enter the strike hole. If it enters the strike hole, reposition the strike.

If the latch is loose in the strike, adjust the strike tab so it grips the latch bolt better when the door is closed.

6. Install Battery

A. Remove Interior Cover: Remove the interior cover. If you installed the security screw in step 3C, you will need to remove it to install the battery.

B. Connect Battery: Connect the 9V battery (M).

C. Secure Battery: Secure the battery into the interior assembly.

7. Add User Codes

E. Press Kwikset: Press Kwikset.

F. Confirmation: You will hear one long beep and the keypad will flash green if successful. If you hear three beeps and the keypad flashes red, it was unsuccessful. Repeat from step A.
