Installation Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Door and Check Dimensions
If drilling a new door, use the supplied template and complete door drilling instructions available at kwikset.com/doorprep.
Verify door dimensions:
- Backset: 2-3/8" (60 mm) or 2-3/4" (70 mm)
- Door Thickness: 1-3/8" - 1-3/4" (35 mm - 44 mm)
- Door Hole Diameter: 2-1/8" (54 mm)
- Door Edge Bore: 1" (25 mm)

Step 2: Adjust Latch Backset
Hold the latch in front of the door hole, with the latch face flush against the door edge.
Check if the semi-circular hole in the latch is centered in the door hole. If it is centered, no adjustment is required. Proceed to Step 3.
If the semi-circular hole is NOT centered, adjust the latch:
Latch Adjustment (if needed): Grasp the pin on both sides of the latch and move it to the longer setting for a 2-3/4" backset, or the shorter setting for a 2-3/8" backset.
[Visual Description: Diagram showing the latch mechanism. A pin is visible, with arrows indicating how to move it to adjust the backset. One position is labeled 'centered' and the other 'not centered'.]
Step 3: Install Latch
For square chiseled doors only, ensure the door edge is chiseled.
Remove the latch plates.
Install the drive-in collar if the door edge is not chiseled.
Insert the latch into the door hole. Ensure the slant of the bolt faces the direction the door closes. ➡️
[Visual Description: Two options for latch installation are shown: one for doors with a chiseled edge, and one for doors without a chiseled edge using a drive-in collar. The correct orientation of the latch bolt's slant is emphasized.]
Step 4: Install Levers
For Passage Levers: Insert the spindle through the semi-circular hole in the latch. ➡️
For Privacy Levers: Insert the spindle through the semi-circular hole in the latch. ➡️

Push up on the lever base while tightening the screws to keep the latch horizontal and centered. ✔️
Ensure straight edges of the lever base are parallel to the door edge.
If the lever base will not sit flush on the door, use a flathead screwdriver to remove the alignment guide. ?️
Privacy Levers Only: After tightening screws, rotate the interior lever to unlock it. ?

Step 5: Install Strike on Door Frame
