CAUTION – RISK OF SHOCK
Disconnect Power at the main circuit breaker panel or main fusebox before starting and during the installation.
Before Installing
All installations should comply with National and local electrical codes. If you have any doubts concerning installation, contact a qualified licensed electrician.
Installation Steps
Step 1: Prepare Mounting Strap
Find the appropriate threaded holes on the mounting strap [1]. Assemble mounting screws [2] into these threaded holes.
Step 2: Attach Mounting Strap
Attach the mounting strap to the outlet box [4] using the strap mounting screws [3]. The mounting strap can be adjusted to suit the position of the fixture.
Step 3: Grounding Instructions
Refer to Illustrations A or B for grounding:
- Illustration A: For fixtures where the mounting strap is provided with a hole and two raised dimples. Wrap the ground wire from the outlet box around the green ground screw and thread it into the hole.
- Illustration B: For fixtures where a cupped washer is provided. Attach the ground wire from the outlet box under the cupped washer and green ground screw, and thread it into the mounting strap.
If the fixture is provided with a ground wire, connect the fixture ground wire to the outlet box ground wire with a wire connector (not provided). After following the above steps, never connect the ground wire to black or white power supply wires.
Diagram A depicts an outlet box, wire connector, green ground screw, fixture ground wire, and dimples on the mounting strap.
Diagram B depicts an outlet box, green ground screw, cupped washer, and fixture ground wire.
Step 4: Make Wire Connections
Make wire connections using appropriate connectors (not provided). Refer to the chart below for correct connections:
Connect Black or Red Supply Wire to: | Connect White Supply Wire to: |
---|---|
Black | White |
*Parallel cord (round & smooth) Clear, Brown, Gold or Black without tracer | *Parallel cord (square & ridged) Clear, Brown, Gold or Black with tracer |
Insulated wire (other than green) with copper conductor | Insulated wire (other than green) with silver conductor |
*Note: When parallel wires (SPT I & SPT II) are used, the neutral wire is square shaped or ridged, and the other wire will be round in shape or smooth (see illustration).
Connect the neutral wire accordingly.
Step 5: Attach Fixture Canopy
Push the fixture to the ceiling, carefully passing the mounting screws through the holes in the canopy. NOTE: Be certain wires do not get pinched between the canopy and ceiling.
Step 6: Secure Canopy
Use knobs [6] and lockwashers [7] to secure the canopy. Tighten to secure.
Step 7: Attach Arms
Attach the three (3) arms [5] with the three (3) threaded knobs [8] securely.
Step 8: Raise Glass Shade
Raise the glass shade [9].
Step 9: Attach Lower Frame
Take the lower frame [10], support the glass shade, tilt, and hook it onto the three (3) arms.
Step 10: Install Bulbs
Install the recommended bulbs.
