Metal Detectors
Welcome to the Minelab EQUINOX Series
This guide provides essential information for getting started with your Minelab EQUINOX 600 or EQUINOX 800 metal detector.
Assembly
Attaching the Coil to the Lower Shaft
1. Insert the two rubber washers into the holes on both sides of the coil.
2. Insert the coil's mounting bracket into the bracket on the lower shaft.
3. Insert the plastic bolt through the coil's bracket and the shaft's bracket.
4. Secure with the plastic bolt. Do not overtighten. Ensure the spring-loaded button on the lower shaft is underneath the coil's bracket.
Connecting the Shafts
1. Loosen the cam locks by rotating them counter-clockwise.
2. Press the spring-loaded button on the lower shaft, then insert the lower shaft into the middle shaft until the button clicks into the nearest adjustment hole.
3. Similarly, attach the middle shaft to the upper shaft.
4. Secure the shaft positions by rotating the cam locks clockwise.
Attaching the Armrest and Coil
1. Place the armrest on the upper shaft. Position the armrest slightly below your elbow, then align the center hole in the armrest with the center hole in the upper shaft. Carefully insert the shaft and armrest. Gently tighten the screw through the base, then the upper shaft.
2. Use the Velcro straps to secure the coil cable to the lower and middle shafts, ensuring no slack.
3. Insert the coil connector into the socket on the rear of the control box.
Charging the Battery
The EQUINOX series features a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It is recommended to fully charge the battery before first use. Charging takes approximately 4 hours.
1. Connect the USB-A end of the magnetic charging cable to any standard USB power port.
2. Connect the magnetic connector of the charger to the charging port on the rear of the control box. The Charge Status LED in the top-left corner of the user interface will flash.
3. When charging is complete, the Charge Status LED will be solid.
Note: It is recommended to turn off the metal detector while charging. You can search with the detector while it is connected to an external USB battery pack.
Quick Start: 4 Steps to Start Searching
1. Power On
Press the [Power Button] on the side of the control box.
2. Select Search Mode
Select the appropriate Search Mode Profile for your conditions and terrain. (EQUINOX 800 shown).
3. Noise Cancel
Select 'Noise Cancel' from the Settings Menu, then press to initiate automatic noise cancellation. This takes approximately 8 seconds.
4. Start Searching!
Press the [Search Button] to return to the search screen and begin detecting.
Search Modes
Each Search Mode has two adjustable Search Profile settings with default configurations.
Park
Ideal for recreational areas with lots of trash, including general detecting.
Profiles: General / Coins, Jewellery
Field
Best for searching historical sites for a wide range of target sizes.
Profiles: Coins / Relics, Old Coins / Relics
Beach
Optimized for all saltwater conditions – dry sand, wet sand, surf, and underwater.
Profiles: Wet / Dry Sand, Underwater / Shallow Water
Gold* (EQUINOX 800 only)
Best for finding gold nuggets in gold-bearing, mineralized soils.
Profiles: Normal Ground, Heavy Ground
User Interface
Adjust and view your metal detector's settings.
*The asterisk indicates features available only on the EQUINOX 800 model.
Power Button
Short press: Turns the detector on/off.
Long press (5 seconds): Resets the detector to factory settings.
Backlight
Selects backlight brightness or turns it on/off. A [Backlight Icon] appears when the backlight is active.
Sensitivity Indicator
Shows the approximate sensitivity level (25 levels). Press the [+/- Buttons] on the search screen to adjust sensitivity.
Search Mode Button
Selects Search Modes: Park, Field, Beach, and Gold*. Each mode has 2 adjustable Search Profiles.
Short press: Cycles through Search Modes.
Long press (5 seconds): Resets the active Search Profile to factory settings.
Settings Menu Button
Short press: Opens and cycles through the detector's Settings Menu.
Long press in Settings Menu: Accesses Advanced Settings, if available.
Press '+' or '-' to adjust the selected setting's value.
Battery Status
The LED indicates charge status during charging.
Flashing: Charging
Solid: Fully Charged
Charge the battery when the battery icon starts flashing.
Wireless Audio Button
Short press: Turns wireless audio on/off.
Long press: Pairs wireless audio devices.
Compatible Devices: Any headphones, Bluetooth® headphones, aptX™ Low Latency headphones, WM 08 Wireless Audio Module. Up to 4 WM 08 modules can be paired and used simultaneously.
Depth Indicator
Shows the approximate depth of a detected target (5 levels).
User Profile Button*
Long press: Saves current detector settings as a User Profile.
Short press: Toggles saved User Profile on/off.
Discrimination
50-segment high-resolution discrimination scale (-9 to 40) for accurate target identification. When a target is detected, press the [Accept/Reject Button] to immediately accept or reject it. You can also create discrimination patterns via the Settings Menu. Press '+' or '-' to move to a segment, then press the [Accept/Reject Button] to accept or reject the target.
Target IDs -9 to 0 indicate ferrous targets (e.g., -5).
Target IDs 1 to 40 indicate non-ferrous targets (e.g., 32).
All-Metal Button
Press the [All-Metal Button] to toggle the selected discrimination mask on/off to confirm a target.
Pinpoint Button
Helps to locate the exact position of a target before digging. Press the [Pinpoint Button] to enter Pinpoint mode. Press again to return to the Search screen.
Frequency Button
Displays the current operating frequency. Press the [Frequency Button] at any time to switch between available operating frequencies for the active Search Profile.
Displays the currently selected single frequency in kHz: 5, 10, 15, 20* or 40*.
Multi: Displays a rectangle when operating in Simultaneous Multi-Frequency.
