Product Overview

Key components of the Heybike electric bike include:

Assembly Instructions

If you are not comfortable assembling the bike, seek professional assistance from a bike shop. Ensure all adjustments (gears, brakes, tire pressure) are made correctly.

Front Fork Assembly

  1. Prepare Quick Release: Locate the quick-release lever. Open the lever, remove the thumb nut, safety hook, and cone spring (on the side opposite the lever). Keep the washer and other safety hook/cone spring on the lever side.
  2. Mount Wheel: Line up the fork with the axle at the center of the wheel. Ensure a spacer is between the fork and wheel on each side. Install the safety hook, gasket, and nut in sequence.
  3. Secure Nut: Tighten the nut onto the fork using the provided No. 15 wrench.
  4. Install Fork Cover: Install the front fork cover.
  5. Brake Rotor Alignment: Ensure the front wheel is fully seated and centered in the fork dropouts. The brake rotor should be between the brake pads in the caliper. Confirm the front fork nut is fully and properly secured.

Front Fender & Headlight Assembly

  1. Prepare Fender: Take out the fender. Remove the nut, washer, and bolt from the top of the front fork.
  2. Attach Fender: Secure the front mudguard bracket to the front fork.
  3. Attach Headlight: Reattach the bolt, washer, fender washer, and headlight in order. Insert the front lamp bracket into the screw and align. Lock the screw using the Allen key and wrench.

Stem Assembly

  1. Install Stem: Insert the Bowl upper cover into the stem and then into the front frame.
  2. Secure Stem: Tighten the screws to fix the stem in place.
  3. Secure Handlebar: Tighten the screws to fix the handlebar in place.
  4. Protect Screws: Cover the stem screws with stem screw plugs for protection.

Seat Assembly

Proper seat height is crucial for pedaling, safety, and comfort. Adjust based on leg length:

  • When pedaling, your hips should remain level, and your legs should be almost fully extended (but not locked) at the bottom of the pedal stroke.
  • To set height: Sit on the e-bike with one pedal at its lowest point. Place the ball of your foot on the pedal. Your leg should have a slight bend at the knee.
  1. Adjust Seat Height: Open the quick-release lever by swinging it outward. Slide the seatpost up or down in the seat tube. DO NOT raise the seatpost beyond the minimum insertion marking etched on the tube.
  2. Secure Seat: Close the quick-release lever firmly.
  3. Align Seat: Adjust the seat so the head of the seat is parallel with the top tube of the frame.

NOTICE: Ensure the seatpost and seat are properly adjusted before riding. Exceeding the minimum insertion marking can cause the seatpost or frame to break, leading to loss of control and potential injury.

Suspension Fork Adjustment

The suspension fork allows up to 80mm of travel to cushion bumps for a smoother ride. It can also be locked out for increased pedaling efficiency.

  • Lockout Lever (1): Located on the top right of the suspension fork. Turn counterclockwise until it stops to lock out the suspension.
  • Unlock Lever: Turn the knob clockwise until it stops to unlock. Resistance can be adjusted by turning the knob further.

Pedals Assembly

  1. Identify Pedals: Locate the right-side pedal (marked "R") and the left-side pedal (marked "L").
  2. Install Right Pedal: Thread the right pedal onto the right crank arm clockwise by hand. Tighten with the Allen wrench.
  3. Install Left Pedal: Thread the left pedal onto the left crank arm counter-clockwise by hand. Tighten with the Allen wrench.
  4. Check Chain Alignment: Rotate the right pedal backward. Ensure the chain runs smoothly through the drivetrain (rear cog, chain tensioner, front chainring).

Note: If the pedals or chain do not run smoothly, or if something appears misaligned, contact Heybike Support.

General Assembly Check

Before riding, always check that all latches, levers, and quick-releases are properly secured and undamaged. Perform this check before every ride and after the bike has been left unattended. Failure to do so can result in loose components, loss of control, damage, injury, or death.

Battery Key Positions

Familiarize yourself with the key port and its positions:

Position / IconDirections
1 / ON, Locked to FrameBattery is on, locked to the frame. Key cannot be removed. Display power button turns the bike on/off.
2 / OFF, Locked to FrameBattery is off, locked to the frame. No buttons or controls are active. Battery cannot be removed.
3 / OFF, Unlocked from FrameBattery is off and unlocked from the frame. The battery must be removed before moving or riding the bike. The key can be removed from the battery.

NOTICE: Press the key before switching to the unlock position.

Start-up Procedure

After assembly is complete, components are secured, and you have read the manual:

  1. Test Battery Lock: Ensure the key is in the OFF position (locked to frame). Pull up on the battery to confirm it is secure.
  2. Check Adjustments: Ensure handlebars and seat are properly adjusted and secured. Lowering the seat for easier ground contact can be helpful for new riders.
  3. Turn Bike On: Insert the key and turn clockwise to the ON position. Press and hold the center power button on the LCD Display for approximately 2 seconds until the display lights up.
  4. Lights: Turn on the headlight and taillight using the buttons on the light remote, if needed.
  5. Select Pedal Assist: Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the display remote to select a Pedal Assist Level (PAS) from 0 to 3. Level 1 is the lowest assistance, Level 3 is the highest. Level 0 deactivates pedal assistance. Start with Level 0 or 1.
  6. Begin Riding: With safety gear and knowledge, start riding. On a flat surface, in a low gear, begin pedaling. You can also use the throttle for acceleration and speed maintenance.
  7. Throttle Use: Rotate the throttle backward slowly and carefully towards the rider. Do not use the throttle while dismounted. Ensure the bike is powered off when moving it while dismounted to prevent accidental throttle application.

Remove the Battery

The battery is removable for convenience.

  1. Access Key Port: Locate the seat quick-release lever and turn over the saddle to access the battery key port.
  2. Unlock Battery: Press and rotate the key to the UNLOCK icon (Position 3).
  3. Remove Battery: Carefully slide the battery upwards and lift it off the frame.
  4. Reinstall Battery: Align the slot at the bottom of the battery with the frame receptacle and reinsert it. Turn the key to the locked position.

Battery Level Check: To check the battery level without turning on the bike, long-press the button on the top of the battery.

Charge Your E-Bike

The battery must be fully charged before first use.

  1. Ensure Battery is Off: Rotate the key to the OFF icon.
  2. Access Charging Port: Remove the rubber cover on the charging port, located on the side of the battery opposite the key switch.
  3. Connect Charger: Plug the DC output plug from the charger into the battery's charging port.
  4. Plug into Outlet: Plug the charger into a power outlet. Charging will begin, indicated by a red LED light on the charger. The light turns green when fully charged.
  5. Disconnect: Unplug the charger from the wall outlet first, then remove the charger output plug from the battery port.

Charging Off the Bike: Remove the battery as described above. Then, follow steps 2-5 to charge it separately.

Maintenance and Checks

Cables, spokes, and chains may stretch after an initial break-in period of 50-100 miles (80-160 km). Bolted connections can loosen.
