RDS (Radio Data System)
This unit has a built-in RDS decoder system that supports broadcast stations transmitting RDS data. This system can automatically switch to the broadcast station with the best reception as you move over long distances (AF switching). Also, if a traffic announcement (TA) or programme type (PTY) is broadcast from an RDS station, this broadcast will be received regardless of the current mode.
Press and hold the volume knob to enter the setting menu. Briefly press the volume knob to choose your desired item. Rotate the volume knob to select the corresponding setting: AF (ON/OFF), TA (ON/OFF), EON (ON/OFF), PTY (PTY OFF/ MUSIC/ SPEECH), TA SEEK/ TA ALARM, PI SOUND/ PI MUTE.
- Alternative frequency (AF): When AF switching mode is selected, the radio scans the signal strength of alternative frequencies. If a new AF has a stronger signal than the current station, it switches over for a short time, and the new frequency is displayed for 1-2 seconds. (When AF flashes on LCD, it is searching for a stronger RDS station.)
- "AF" not displayed: AF switching mode is off.
- "AF" displayed: AF switching mode is on, and RDS information is received.
- "AF" flashing: AF switching mode is on, but RDS information is not yet received.
- Traffic Alarm (TA): In TA standby mode, when a traffic announcement starts, it is received with priority regardless of the function mode. If TA mode is turned off, reception of a traffic announcement is cancelled, and the unit goes into TA standby mode.
- TA SEEK/ TA ALARM:
- TA SEEK: If a newly tuned station does not receive TP information for 5 seconds, the radio retunes to the next station with TP information that does not have the same PI (Program Identification) as the previous station. If TP information is lost at the current station for the retune time (set by RETUNE S or RETUNE L), the radio retunes to the next same PI station. If a PI station is not found within one search cycle, the radio retunes to the next station with TP information. Note: In TA SEEK mode, the current station may change to a completely different one if the signal strength is very weak or the station has no "TP" signal. (TP has higher priority than PI.)
- TA ALARM: When this mode is selected, automatic retune modes are deactivated. Only a double beep sound (ALARM) is output. The unit keeps the current station. (PI has higher priority than TP.) If a newly tuned station does not have TP information for 5 seconds, beeps are heard. If TP information is lost at the current station for the retune time, a beep sound is output. If a newly tuned station does not have an RDS signal, "PI SEEK" is suppressed.
- PI SOUND/PI MUTE: These modes manage audio alerts related to PI (Program Identification) changes. PI SOUND provides a brief sound alert, while PI MUTE provides a brief mute.
- EON (Enhanced Other Networks Information): With EON enabled, local stations can override national broadcasts for traffic announcements.
- DX/LOCAL: Select "DX" to receive both distant and local stations. Select "LOCAL" to receive only local stations.
- STEREO/MONO: FM listening is generally in Stereo. Switch to Mono mode if the signal is weak to improve sound quality.
- Program type selection (PTY): When PTY is selected, the radio searches for stations broadcasting specific program types (e.g., POP M, NEWS, SPORT). You can select a PTY group (MUSIC or SPEECH) and then a specific type using the number buttons.
