Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the MUSE M-785 DAB Bluetooth Micro System. Please read this manual carefully before operating the unit.

Unpacking the Unit

When you unpack your unit, make sure that you have removed all the accessories and information papers:

  • Bluetooth Micro system
  • Remote control
  • Aux in cable
  • 75 Ohm transferring antenna cable
  • AC adaptor

The unit features the following controls:

Remote Control Buttons

The remote control provides access to all functions:

  • R1. Power Button ( ): Turn unit on/off.
  • R2. Mute Button ( ): Mute or restore sound.
  • R3. SOURCE: Select function mode (DAB+/FM, Disc, USB, Bluetooth, RCA or AUX).
  • R4. Volume Buttons ( / ): Adjust volume.
  • R5. EQ button: Select desired sound effects (FLAT/ CLASSIC/ ROCK/ JAZZ/ POP).
  • R6. LD button: Loudness On/Off.
  • R7. DIM. button: Adjust display brightness.
  • R8. AUDIO button: Adjust Bass/ Treble.
  • R9. ALM. / SLEEP button: Set alarm time; Select sleep time.
  • R10. CLOCK / / : Set clock time; Stop playback; Enter into Menu mode.
  • R11. / BAND button: Open / close the disc tray; DAB+/ FM band selector.
  • R12. / : Select up/down; Folder up/down.
  • R13. , : Skip/search /Tuning.
  • R14. / PAIRING: Play/Pause; Bluetooth pairing function.
  • R15. REP. button: Repeat playback.
  • R16. RAND./ INFO. button: Turn on/off random play function; Preview further information.
  • R17. SCAN / PROG. button: Auto scan the station; Program playback sequences.
  • R18. Number buttons (1-10, +10): Number entry.

Safety Instructions

CAUTION: To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not open the device. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.

The lightning symbol with an arrow inside a triangle is a warning sign alerting the user to "dangerous voltage" inside the unit.

The exclamation point inside a triangle is a warning sign alerting the user of important instructions accompanying the product.

The caution mark is located at the back of the device.

Important Precautions

  • Use the apparatus in moderate climates.
  • The marking plate is located at the back of the device.
  • Ensure a minimum distance of 5 cm around the unit for sufficient ventilation. Do not cover ventilation openings with items like newspapers, tablecloths, or curtains.
  • Do not place naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, on the apparatus.
  • Do not expose the appliance to dripping or splashing water.
  • Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as a glass or vase, on the device.
  • Do not throw batteries into fire! Respect the environment when disposing of used batteries.
  • Batteries shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire, or similar heat sources.
  • The power plug is used as a disconnect device and must remain easily accessible. To be completely disconnected from the power, the plug must be disconnected from the mains socket outlet completely. The socket must not be obstructed and should be easily accessible during intended use.
  • Under the influence of fast transient and/or electrostatic electric phenomena, the product may malfunction, and the user may need to perform a power reset of the device.

Power Supply

AC Adaptor Usage

The supplied AC adaptor is suitable for use on AC mains supplies of 100-240V 50/60Hz and should only be connected to a mains supply within these parameters.

In the interest of saving energy, when playback has reached its end, or if the listening volume is set at a very low level and no control is operated on the device for a period of 2 hours, the unit will automatically switch to Standby mode.

Cautions for AC Adaptor

  • The AC adaptor included with this unit is for its use only. Do not use it with other equipment.
  • Turn off the unit before unplugging the AC adaptor from the unit to avoid damage.
  • When the unit is not going to be used for a long time, disconnect the AC adaptor from the AC outlet.
  • Be sure to use it near the wall outlet and ensure it is easily accessible. If a malfunction occurs, disconnect the plug from the wall outlet immediately.
  • The AC adaptor is used as the disconnect device and must remain readily operable and unobstructed during intended use. To completely disconnect the apparatus from the supply mains, the AC adaptor must be disconnected from the mains socket outlet completely.
  • Never use a damaged AC adaptor. Route the power lead safely, ensuring it is not trapped or pinched. If the power lead is damaged, refer to a qualified service agent.

Setting Time

  1. In standby mode, press the button once to enter time setting mode. The hour digits will flash.
  2. Press / on the unit or / on the remote control to set the hour value. Press to confirm, and the minute digits will flash.
  3. Press / on the unit or / on the remote control to set the minute value and press again to confirm.

Audio Controls

Loudness

Press the LD button on the remote control to turn loudness on or off.

  • Loudness on: The display shows "Loudness ON".
  • Loudness off: The display shows "Loudness OFF".

Bass/Treble

Press the AUDIO button on the remote control to select Bass or Treble function. The corresponding icon will appear on the display. Then press / to set the bass or treble level. Release the button to confirm the setting.

Equalizer

Press the EQ button on the remote control repeatedly to toggle among the different sound effects: FLAT, CLASSIC, ROCK, JAZZ, or POP. The selection will show on the display for a few seconds.

Turning Unit On/Off

  1. Press the button to turn the unit on.
  2. Long press the button on the unit or short press the button on the remote control to turn off the unit.

Selecting Function

When the unit is ON, press the SOURCE button repeatedly to select the desired function in cycle: DAB+/FM, Disc, USB, Bluetooth, RCA, or AUX.

The Bluetooth® word mark and logos are registered trademarks owned by Bluetooth SIG, Inc., and any use of such marks by New One S.A.S is under license. Other trademarks and trade names are those of their respective owners.

Pairing a Bluetooth Device

  1. When the unit is ON, press the SOURCE button on the unit repeatedly to select Bluetooth mode. The display will show "BlueTooth". The Bluetooth indicator will start to blink rapidly.
  2. On the Bluetooth device, enable Bluetooth and select "M-785DAB" from the Device List. (Refer to the user manual of the device to be connected for detailed operations.) If the Bluetooth device prompts for a pass code, use "0000". Some Bluetooth devices will ask you to accept the connection. You will hear an indication voice when pairing is successful.
  3. Tip: If you want to connect your Bluetooth speaker to another Bluetooth audio device, you need to disconnect the current device first and follow the steps above to make a new connection.
  4. If pairing fails, perform the following: Press and hold the /PAIRING button until the Bluetooth indicator blinks quickly to enter Pairing mode. On the Bluetooth device, enable Bluetooth and select "M-785DAB" from the Device List (see step 2 above).
  5. On some devices such as computers, once paired, you must select the unit from the Bluetooth menu and choose "Use as Audio Device (stereo)" or similar.
  6. Pairing remains intact when the unit and/or your Bluetooth device is taken out of communication range. An active connection will be re-established when your Bluetooth device returns within range.
  7. When the unit is turned on again, it will automatically try to reconnect with the most recently paired Bluetooth device.

Using a Bluetooth Device

  1. With a unit paired (see previous section), operate your Bluetooth device, and its sound will be heard through the M-785DAB's speakers.
  2. Press the button to pause playback. Press again to resume playback.
  3. Select the desired track with /.
  4. Adjust the volume using the / Volume buttons. You can also adjust the volume on the device to which you are paired.

Using an NFC Device

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a technology that enables short-range wireless communication between NFC-enabled devices, such as mobile phones.

  1. When the unit is ON, press the SOURCE button repeatedly to select Bluetooth mode. The display will show "BlueTooth". The Bluetooth indicator will start to blink rapidly.
  2. Enable NFC and Bluetooth on your Bluetooth device (see the user manual of your device for details). Tap the NFC device on the NFC tag on the unit until you hear an indication voice. The NFC device is connected to this unit via Bluetooth.
  3. Select and play audio files or music on your NFC device.
  4. To break the connection, tap the NFC device on the NFC tag on this unit again.

Note: The operational range between the main unit and an NFC device is approximately 10 meters.

Listening to Disc (CD)

  1. When the unit is ON, press the SOURCE button to select disc mode. The display will show "Disc" for a few seconds. Press the button to open the disc tray. Insert a disc with the label side facing up. Press again to close the disc tray. (Note: If there is no disc inserted, the display will show "No Disc").
  2. After a few seconds, the total number of tracks will appear on the display for a few seconds, and playback starts automatically.

Radio

Listening to the Radio

When the unit is ON, press the SOURCE button to select Radio mode. The display will show "Digital Radio" for a few seconds and change to the current frequency.

Band Selection

When the radio mode is selected, long press the BAND button on the unit or short press BAND repeatedly on the remote control to select DAB/DAB+ or FM band.

Listen to DAB/DAB+ Radio

  1. When DAB/DAB+ mode is selected, the unit will start an automatic scan for DAB/DAB+ stations if it's the first time using it. The display will change to "Scanning......". A progress bar will show the progress of the scanning, and the number of stations found will also be displayed.
  2. When the scan is complete, the unit will select the first available station and start to play automatically. Stations will be listed in numerical and then alphabetical order by default.
  3. Note: When the DAB radio station list is stored, it will not search automatically again. Press the SCAN button to search and list stations.
  4. Press / to select the stations in the list.
  5. Press the button to confirm your selection.
  6. Note: If no broadcasts are found by DAB/DAB+ scan, "No DAB Station" will appear in the display.
  7. For better reception, insert the antenna cable into the external antenna socket and extend it.
  8. During the search operation, the sound level is automatically muted.

Listen to FM Radio

In FM radio mode, press the / button for manual tuning. Press the SCAN button once or press and hold / for automatic search.

Note: For better reception, insert the antenna cable into the external antenna socket and extend it.

Preset Station

This unit can store 10 FM and 10 DAB/DAB+ stations.

  1. Long press the BAND button on the unit or short press BAND repeatedly on the remote control to select FM or DAB/DAB+ band.
  2. Select a radio station.
  3. Press and hold a number button (1-10) on the remote control to store it. "Stored" will be displayed.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 to store other stations.

Listening to Station Presets

  1. Long press the BAND button on the unit or short press BAND repeatedly on the remote control to select FM or DAB/DAB+ band.
  2. Press P+ on the unit or a number button (1-10) on the remote control to select your desired station.
  3. Note: If you choose a station that hasn't been allocated, "Preset Empty" will be displayed. If the station has been allocated before, the frequency will be shown.

Setup Menu

Navigating the setup menu:

  1. In FM or DAB mode, press and hold the button to enter the setup menu.
  2. Press the / button to scroll to one of the available options.
  3. Press the button to enter the related setup.

FM Setting Menu

  • Scan setting: Select "All stations" or "Strong stations only".
    • All stations: The automatic search locates any available station.
    • Strong station only: The automatic search locates only strong stations.
  • Audio setting: Select "Stereo allowed" or "Forced mono" for FM radio.
  • System: Select system setting options: Factory Reset, SW version.
    • Factory Reset: Clears all user-defined settings.
    • SW version: Displays the current software version.

DAB Setting Menu

  • Full Scan: Automatically scans and creates a list of receivable DAB/DAB+ broadcasts.
  • Manual Tune: Assists in positioning the antenna or unit for optimum reception of a specific channel or frequency.
  • DRC (Dynamic range compression): Makes quieter sounds easier to hear in noisy environments. Press / to select DRC level: off, high, low. Press to confirm.
    • DRC off: No compression (default).
    • DRC high: Maximum compression.
    • DRC low: Medium compression.
    Note: DRC is effective only for dynamic range compression broadcasts.
  • Prune: Select "No" or "Yes" using /, then press to confirm or cancel removing invalid stations.
  • System: Refer to the FM Setting Menu for system operations.

Reviewing More Information (FM/ DAB Mode)

Repeatedly press the INFO. button to review unit settings or available information for the station you are listening to.

USB Playback

  1. Connect a USB device to the USB MP3 port on the unit.
  2. Press the SOURCE button repeatedly to select USB mode. The display will show "USB" for a few seconds, and playback will start automatically.
  3. Select the desired track with /.

Notes:

  • The total number of MP3 files on the USB device should not exceed 999.
  • The device may not contain more than 99 directories.
  • Reading time may take a few seconds or more, depending on the amount of MP3 files and folders on the USB device.
  • Do not insert anything other than a USB device into the port. Other objects may damage the USB mechanism.
  • The USB socket must not be connected directly to a computer, as this may damage the unit.
  • There are many USB devices on the market; compatibility with all models cannot be guaranteed. Try another USB device if yours is not supported.

Play Modes (CD/MP3)

Repeat Playback

Press the REP. button on the remote control repeatedly to select a play mode:

  • Repeat One: Display shows "Rep-1".
  • Repeat Folder: Display shows "Rep-F" (MP3 only).
  • Repeat All: Display shows "Rep-A".

To cancel repeat playback, press the REP. button repeatedly until the repeat indicator disappears.

Random Playback

Press the RAND. button on the remote control. The display shows "RAND.". All tracks will play in random order. Press the RAND. button again to cancel this function.

Program Playback

  1. In stop mode, press the PROG. button on the remote control. The display will show "P01 0001".
  2. Select the desired track with /, then press the PROG. button to confirm.
  3. Repeat the above steps to program up to 32 tracks for CD and 99 tracks for MP3.
  4. Press the button to start program playback.
  5. Press the button once to stop program playback. Press twice to cancel this function.

Select a Folder (MP3 only)

  • Press the button on the remote control to select the first track of the next folder of your current disc or USB.
  • Press the button on the remote control to select the first track of the previous folder of your current disc or USB.

By Number Buttons (+10, 1-10)

Use the number buttons to input the track number, and playback will start automatically from the selected track.

If you want to input a track number greater than 10, use the +10 and 1-9 buttons.

  • Example 1: To select the 14th track, first press the '4' button, then press the '+10' button (4+10=14).
  • Example 2: To select the 25th track, first press the '5' button, then press the '+10' button twice (5+10+10=25).

Connecting Auxiliary Source

To AUDIO IN RCA jacks

  1. Connect your auxiliary source (e.g., DVD player) to the AUDIO IN L/R jacks on the back of the unit with an RCA audio cable (cable not included).
  2. Press the SOURCE button repeatedly to select RCA mode. The display will show "RCA_INPUT" for a few seconds and then return to the clock time.
  3. Start playback from your auxiliary source.
  4. Adjust the volume to the desired level.
  5. To stop playback, disconnect your auxiliary source from the AUDIO IN L/R jacks.

To 3.5mm AUX IN jack

  1. Connect your auxiliary source (e.g., mp3 player) to the AUX IN jack on the top of the unit (cable included).
  2. Press the SOURCE button repeatedly to select AUX IN mode. The display will show "AUX_INPUT".
  3. Start playback from your auxiliary source.
  4. Adjust the volume to the desired level.
  5. To stop playback, disconnect your auxiliary source from the AUX IN jack.

Setting the Alarm

Setting the Alarm

In standby mode, press the ALM. button once to enter alarm setting mode. The display will show "Alarm OFF".

  1. Press / on the unit or / on the remote control to enter alarm setting mode. "Alarm ON" appears on the display. Press ALM. to confirm, and the hour digits will flash.
  2. Press / on the unit or / on the remote control to set the hour value. Press ALM. to confirm, and the minute digits will flash.
  3. Press / on the unit or / on the remote control to set the minute value and press ALM. again to confirm. The alarm indicator "AL." remains on display.

NOTES:

  • The alarm will wake up to the previous mode (Bluetooth, Disc, USB, FM/DAB+, RCA or AUX) when the alarm time is reached. Select your desired wake-up mode before the unit is turned off.
  • If there is no audio input from your selected wake-up source when the alarm time is reached, it will switch to radio mode automatically after approximately one minute.
  • If the wake-up source is radio mode, select your desired radio station before the unit is turned off.

Stopping the Alarm

  • Alarm Stop: Press the button. The alarm will sound again the next day at the same time. The alarm indicator "AL." remains on.
  • Alarm Cancellation:
    1. In Standby mode, press ALM. to enter alarm setting mode.
    2. Press / on the unit or / on the remote control to select "Alarm OFF" and press ALM. again to cancel the alarm permanently. "AL." disappears.

Sleep Function

This function allows you to set a duration before the unit turns off automatically. You can select the duration (in minutes) before the unit turns off automatically.

  1. Press the SLEEP button on the remote control repeatedly to select 90-60-45-30-15-10 or 5 minutes of listening. The remaining sleep time will be displayed.
  2. To cancel the sleep function, repeatedly press the SLEEP button until the remaining sleep time disappears.

Note: Sleep time can only be set when the unit is turned ON.

Dimmer

Press the DIM. button on the remote control to select the brightness of the screen: high or low.

USB Charging

This unit is equipped with a built-in USB charging port (Output: 5V 1A) for recharging your mobile device (e.g., Smartphone, tablet, etc.). Simply plug the USB charging cable (not included) into the USB charging port and connect it to your mobile device.

Troubleshooting Guide

Should this unit exhibit a problem, check the following before seeking service:

No Power

  • Make sure the unit is connected to AC power.

No Sound – General

  • External device's volume is set to minimum; raise volume.
  • The M-785DAB's volume is set to minimum; raise volume.

Bluetooth Device Cannot Pair or Connect

  • You have not activated the Bluetooth function of your device. Refer to the user manual of your device to activate Bluetooth function.
  • The unit is not in pairing mode. Press and hold the /PAIRING button until the Bluetooth indicator blinks fast.
  • The unit is already connected with another Bluetooth device; disconnect that device and then try again.
