Setup
Install or Replace Batteries
AcuRite recommends high-quality alkaline batteries for best performance. Heavy-duty or rechargeable batteries are not recommended. The outdoor sensor requires lithium batteries in low-temperature conditions (below -4°F / -20°C) as cold can affect alkaline battery performance.
Outdoor Sensor Battery Installation
1. Slide off the battery compartment cover.
2. Insert 2 x AA batteries, observing polarity (+/-) as shown in the compartment.
3. Replace the battery cover.
Display Battery Installation
1. Slide off the battery compartment cover.
2. Insert 3 x AAA batteries, observing polarity (+/-) as shown in the compartment.
3. Replace the battery cover.
Select Degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius
Press the "°F/°C" button on the back of the display to switch between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C) units.
Battery Safety & Disposal
Please dispose of old or defective batteries in an environmentally safe way according to local laws. Clean battery contacts and device contacts before installation. Remove batteries from equipment not in use for extended periods. Promptly remove dead batteries. Use only recommended battery types. Do not incinerate, short-circuit, mix old/new or different battery types, or recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
Placement for Maximum Accuracy
Proper placement of both the display and outdoor sensor is critical for accuracy and performance.
Display Placement
Place the display in a dry area free of dirt and dust. It can be used upright on a tabletop or mounted on a wall.
Outdoor Sensor Placement
The sensor must be placed outdoors. While water-resistant for general outdoor use, placing it in an area protected from direct weather elements will extend its life. Hang the sensor using its integrated hanger or string (not included) from a suitable location, like a well-covered tree branch. The optimal location is 4 to 8 feet above the ground with permanent shade and good air circulation.
Important Placement Guidelines
- To ensure accurate temperature measurement, place units out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources or vents.
- The display and outdoor sensor must be within 165 ft (50 m) of each other.
- To maximize wireless range, place units away from large metallic items, thick walls, metal surfaces, or other objects that may limit wireless communication.
- To prevent wireless interference, place both units at least 3 ft (0.9 m) away from electronic devices (TV, computer, microwave, radio, etc.).
Setup is Complete
The sensor will synchronize with the display. This may take a few minutes. Refer to the troubleshooting section if issues arise.
Diagram Description: A diagram shows a house with a TV, computer, and microwave inside, representing electronic devices to keep the sensor at least 3 feet (0.9m) away. It also shows the outdoor sensor placed on a tree branch, with the display inside the house, indicating a maximum wireless range of 165 feet (50 meters).
Operation
Using the Thermometer High & Low Records
High and low records track the minimum and maximum temperature and humidity since the unit was powered on, batteries were replaced, or records were manually reset.
- To view LOW records, press and release the "▼" button. A "▼" icon will appear on the display.
- To view HIGH records, press and release the "▲" button. An "▲" icon will appear on the display.
- To reset LOW records, press and HOLD the "▼" button while viewing low records. Dashes will appear to confirm the reset.
- To reset HIGH records, press and HOLD the "▲" button while viewing high records. Dashes will appear to confirm the reset.
