- Display Unit
- Wireless outdoor sensor
Overview: Display Features
The display shows:
- Outdoor Conditions: Current outdoor temperature reading.
- "How to Dress" Weather Character: Displays clothing recommendations based on the current outdoor temperature.
- Outdoor Temperature Alarm Display: Indicates if the outdoor temperature alarm is active.
- Indoor Temperature Display: Displays the current indoor temperature.
Setup: Battery Choice & Temperature Range
Extended periods of cold temperatures (below -4°F / -20°C) can cause alkaline batteries to function improperly, leading to the outdoor wireless sensor stopping temperature readings. Use lithium batteries in these low-temperature conditions to ensure continued operation.
Battery Compatibility:
- Lithium Batteries: -40°F to 158°F (-40°C to 70°C)
- Alkaline Batteries: -4°F to 158°F (-20°C to 70°C)
Battery Disposal: Please dispose of old or defective batteries in an environmentally safe way and in accordance with your local laws and regulations.
Battery Safety: Clean battery contacts and device contacts before installation. Remove batteries from equipment not in use for extended periods. Observe polarity (+/-) in the battery compartment. Promptly remove dead batteries. Dispose of used batteries properly. Use only equivalent or recommended battery types. Do not incinerate, dispose of in fire, mix old/new batteries or battery types, short-circuit terminals, recharge non-rechargeable batteries, or use rechargeable batteries.
Installing Batteries - Wireless Sensor
Remove the battery compartment cover. Install 2 fresh "AA" batteries as shown. Batteries must be installed for the sensor to operate.

Placement
Choose locations for the wireless sensor and display unit. The wireless sensor must be placed within 165 feet (50m) of the display unit.
This forecaster uses radio frequency for communication, which can be susceptible to interference from other electronic devices and large metallic items or thick walls. Place both units at least 3 feet (.91 m) away from appliances (TV, microwave, radios, etc.) or objects that may interfere with wireless communication (large metal surfaces, thick stone walls, etc.).
Placement of Display Unit: Place the display unit in a dry area free of dirt and dust. To ensure accurate indoor temperature measurement, place it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources or vents. Options include hanging on a wall using the integrated hang hole or placing on a flat surface using the table top display stand.
Placement of Sensor: The wireless sensor MUST be placed OUTDOORS to measure outdoor temperatures. It must be within 165 feet (50 m) of the display unit. The sensor is water-resistant for general outdoor use, but to extend its life, place it in an area protected from direct weather elements. For accurate outdoor temperature measurement, place it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. Options include hanging using one of the two integrated hang holes or using string to hang from a suitable location like a well-covered tree branch.
Use: "How to Dress" Character
This thermometer features an icon that automatically suggests clothing recommendations based on the current outdoor temperature.
Temperature Scale (°F / °C): The display shows temperature in Fahrenheit (°F) or Celsius (°C).
Indoor Temperature: The indoor temperature display uses the same area as the alarm value display. It is shown only when the alarm is OFF.
Outdoor Temperature Alarm:
- To turn on the alarm, press the "▼" button below the display. The default alarm value of 32°F will be shown. The alarm will sound if the outdoor temperature reaches 32°F.
- To change the alarm temperature, press and HOLD the "▼" button. The alarm value will flash. Use the "▲" or "▼" buttons to adjust the alarm value.
- When an alarm sounds, press the "ALARM STOP" button on top of the display to silence it. The alarm will sound again if the alarm temperature is reached again. To prevent the alarm from sounding, turn it off by pressing the "▼" button.
Temperature Alarm Note:
- If the set alarm value is below 50°F, the alarm sounds only if the temperature has FALLEN below the set value.
- If the set alarm value is above 50°F, the alarm sounds only if the temperature has RISEN above the set value.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Possible Solution |
---|---|
Bad Wireless Sensor Reception (no bars) | Relocate the main unit and/or wireless sensor. Ensure both units are within 165 feet (50m) of each other. Place both units at least 3 feet (.91 m) from other electronic appliances and devices that may interfere with wireless communication (e.g., TVs, microwaves, computers). Note: It may take up to 20 minutes for the main unit to re-synchronize with the sensor after battery replacement. Use lithium batteries in the sensor when the temperature is below -4°F (-20°C). |
Display Unit Screen Not Working | Batteries may need replacing. Check that batteries are correctly installed. |
