Placement Guidelines

Display Placement

Place the display in a dry area, free of dirt and dust. It can be used on a tabletop or mounted on a wall.

Important Placement Guidelines

5-in-1 Sensor Installation

  1. Installation Height: Mount at a minimum height of 5 feet (1.5 meters) in an open area. Higher mounting (e.g., 33 feet / 10 meters) is recommended for wind measurements.
  2. Mounting Options: The bracket can be screwed onto wooden posts (2"x4" or larger) or mounted to a 3/4" steel pipe.
  3. Solar Cell Installation: Install the sensor with the solar cell facing SOUTH to maximize sun exposure and properly orient wind direction.

Installation Steps:

  1. Fasten the mounting base to a post or pole using the longer screws.
  2. Insert the mounting base into the hole on the bottom of the sensor.
  3. Ensure arrows on the sensor point correctly and the bubble level is centered. The solar cell should face south.
  4. Fasten the sensor to the mounting base using the shorter screws.

Basic setup is complete. Synchronization may take a few minutes.

Care & Maintenance

Display Care

Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid caustic cleaners or abrasives. Keep away from dust, dirt, and moisture. Clean ventilation ports with a gentle puff of air.

5-in-1 Sensor Care

Calibrate the Rain Gauge

To improve rain gauge accuracy:

  1. Ensure the 5-in-1 sensor is level using the built-in bubble level.
  2. Place the display nearby to monitor during calibration.
  3. Make a pinhole in the bottom of a plastic cup. Hold the cup over the rain gauge and fill it with exactly 1 cup (8 oz) of water, allowing it to drip into the gauge.
  4. The display should register rainfall increments as the internal buckets tip.
  5. The cup should take over 20 minutes to empty to simulate steady rainfall. The display should register approximately 1.06" (27 mm) when empty.

Tips:

Watch the calibration video at www.acurite.com/5in1.
