Install or Replace Batteries
AcuRite recommends high-quality alkaline or lithium batteries for the outdoor sensor for best product performance. Heavy-duty or rechargeable batteries are not recommended.
The sensor requires lithium batteries in low-temperature conditions (below -4°F / -20°C) as cold temperatures can cause alkaline batteries to function improperly.
- Slide off the battery compartment cover.
- Insert 2 x AA batteries into the battery compartment, following the polarity (+/-) diagram.
- Replace the battery cover.
Diagram shows two AA batteries being inserted into the compartment with polarity indicators. It also shows temperature ratings for Lithium batteries (-40°F to 158°F) and Alkaline batteries (-4°F to 158°F).
Placement for Maximum Accuracy
Proper placement of the outdoor sensor is critical for accuracy and performance. The sensor must be placed outside and is water-resistant, but should be placed in an area protected from direct weather elements to extend its life.
Outdoor Sensor Placement Guidelines:
- Hang the sensor using the integrated hanger or string from a suitable location, such as a well-covered tree branch.
- The ideal location is 4 to 8 feet above the ground, in permanent shade, with ample fresh air circulation.
- To ensure accurate temperature measurement, place the sensor out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
- The display unit and outdoor sensor must be within 165 ft (50 m) of each other.
- To maximize wireless range, place the sensor away from large metallic items, thick walls, metal surfaces, or other objects that may limit wireless communication.
- To prevent wireless interference, place the sensor at least 3 ft (0.9 m) away from electronic devices like TVs, computers, microwaves, or radios.
