Universal Stopper Install STI-13000 & STI-14000 Series
Installation Notes
- When used outdoors, the manual station must also be rated for outdoor use.
- UL Listing does not permit external power source or connection of horn relay contacts to fire alarm or life safety devices.
- When properly installed, the operation of this cover will not interfere with the function of your life safety system.
- Horn operation and performance must be tested annually. Battery replacement is recommended annually dependent on usage and battery expiration date.
- Ensure the service pin is properly inserted in the service pin receptor to silence horn while performing installation or servicing horn.
- If mounting to an uneven surface, a backplate (STI-1314) is recommended to help ensure proper sealing to mounting surface.
- The backplate may be drilled if wire access or screw mounting holes are needed.

Dimensions (Fig. 1)
Diagram shows the physical dimensions of the Universal Stopper cover. Key measurements include: Height approximately 5.70 inches (144mm), Width approximately 6.80 inches (172mm) at its widest, Depth approximately 5.95 inches (151mm) at its deepest. It indicates an area marked "LIFT HERE" and a "LOCKING TAB". The diagram also shows a "Center pull station" and provides instructions to open the cover using the frame or optional backplate to mark mounting holes. A note advises ensuring the cover's travel does not interfere with the pull station or other safety system equipment.
Mounting Options
Fig. 2 - Flush Mounting Option - Models 130** & 140**
This diagram illustrates the flush mounting procedure. It details drilling 3/16 inch diameter holes 1-1/4 inches deep for anchors, or 7/64 inch diameter holes 1-1/4 inches deep when anchors are not used. It shows the use of four (4) plastic wall anchors and #6 x 1-1/4 inch screws. An STI-1314 optional backplate is recommended for uneven surfaces. The diagram highlights the "LOCKING TAB" and instructs to drill a 1/8 inch hole while the cover is closed, then insert the breakaway seal (KIT-65) completely into the locking tab. A warning states this is not for use on fire or emergency signal applications.
Fig. 3 - Flush Mount with add-on Spacer - Models 131** & 141**
This diagram shows the flush mount installation using an STI-1331 spacer. It includes two (2) conduit inserts and two (2) 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch conduit weather gaskets. Instructions mention breaking off all four (4) conduit windows and tabs, then trimming sharp edges before installation. It shows the use of four (4) plastic wall anchors and #6 x 2-1/2 inch screws. The "LOCKING TAB" and breakaway seal instructions are repeated, along with the warning about fire/emergency signal applications. A note indicates the gasket can be cut to install behind conduit.
Fig. 4 - Surface Mounting Option - Models 132** & 142**
This diagram details the surface mounting process. It shows the use of two (2) 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch conduit weather gaskets and two (2) conduit inserts. Instructions include breaking off conduit windows and trimming edges. It specifies using #6 x 1-1/4 inch screws and four (4) plastic wall anchors. The diagram advises fitting the appropriate conduit weather gasket to the conduit, then to the insert or housing knock-out, and suggests a bead of silicone for additional seal reliability. An STI-1314 optional backplate is recommended for uneven surfaces. The "LOCKING TAB" and breakaway seal instructions are included, along with the warning.
Fig. 5 - Enclosed Flush Mounting Option - Models 133** & 143** NEMA TYPE 3RX
This diagram illustrates the enclosed flush mounting for NEMA Type 3RX models. It shows the enclosed flush mount cover assembly, an electrical box, and specifies conduit thread types: 3/4 inch NPT for North America models (STI-134**, STI-144**, STI-138**, STI-148**) and 20mm for European models (STI-135**, STI-145**, STI-137**, STI-147**, STI-139**, STI-149**, STI-13A**, STI-14A**, STI-13B**, STI-14B**). It details the use of four (4) #6 x 1-1/4 inch screws and four (4) plastic wall anchors. The STI-1401 gasket is shown for existing UL Type 3R rated in-wall electrical boxes. The diagram includes instructions for drilling holes (3/16 inch for anchors, 7/64 inch without anchors) and the "LOCKING TAB" with breakaway seal, along with the standard warning.
Fig. 6 - Enclosed Back Box Mounting Option - Models 134**, 135**, 138**, 139**, 144**, 145**, 148** & 149** NEMA TYPE 3RX

Horn Options
Fig. 7 - Horn Option Models STI-13x20 & STI-13x30
This section details the horn options for STI-13x20 and STI-13x30 models. The STI-13x20 uses a 9V battery only. The STI-13x30 uses a 9V battery as backup with an included 5-PIN harness for 12-24 VDC power input. Both models allow for a Form C dry contact output relay (30 VAC/VDC, 1A) for system monitoring. The diagram shows the horn case, cover, screws, service pin receptor, and the battery replacement process for the 9V battery. It also indicates a volume switch (HI/LOW) and the 5-PIN harness for the STI-13x30 models.
Fig. 7a Wiring Instructions
Wiring instructions for the horn models are provided:
- Red wire: 12VDC - 24VDC
- Black wire: 12VDC - 24VDC
- Blue wire: Common
- Green wire: NC - Norm Closed
- Yellow wire: NO - Norm Open
Horn Activation: Removing the service pin should sound the horn; closing the covers should silence it. The service pin prevents the horn from sounding during installation, battery testing/replacement, or alarm system servicing. Remember to remove the service pin for normal operation.
Fig. 8 - Horn Option Models STI-14x20 & STI-14x30
This section details the horn options for STI-14x20 and STI-14x30 models. The STI-14x20 uses a CR123A battery only. The STI-14x30 uses a CR123A battery as backup with an included 5-PIN harness for 12-24 VDC power input. Both models allow for a Form C dry contact output relay (30 VAC/VDC, 1A) for system monitoring. The diagram shows the service pin receptor, screws, battery replacement for the CR123A battery, horn cover, 5-PIN harness, and a volume jumper (default HI). It includes a "VIEW A" detail.
