If you have any of the following devices, it is crucial to contact your equipment provider(s) to ensure they will work on the nbn™ network. This includes services like medical alarms, fire alarms, security alarms, EFTPOS machines, FAX machines, or lift emergency phones.

Unplug all devices from your phone sockets
Before connecting your nbn service, disconnect all existing devices such as telephones, modems, ADSL filters, EFTPOS, and FAX machines from your telephone wall sockets. These sockets will no longer function after switching to the nbn™ network.

Parts You Will Need
Ensure you have the following items ready for setup:
- Telstra Business Smart Modem™
- Black power adaptor
- Cable with red and yellow ends (WAN)
- Netgear LTE Modem LM1200 (for backup connectivity)
- Wi-Fi card (containing network name and password)
- Optional Cable (telephone cable with grey ends, if connecting a phone)
Identify Your nbn Connection Box
Your nbn™ Connection Box will either be attached to the wall or a standalone unit. Locate the correct port based on your connection type:
Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
Remove the cover to locate the yellow UNI-D1 port on the underside of the nbn™ Connection Box.
Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)
Locate the yellow port on the back of the nbn™ Connection Box.
Fixed Wireless (FW)
Locate the UNI-D1 port on the underside of the nbn™ Connection Box.
Setup Steps
Follow these steps to get connected. The initial connection for your Telstra Business Smart Modem may take up to 15 minutes.
The Netgear LTE Modem LM1200 ensures your internet and phone remain operational during an nbn™ connection fault.
- Press the power button on the back of the Telstra Business Smart Modem. The modem lights will turn solid blue once connected.
- Connect the nbn™ Connection Box to power.
- Connect the nbn™ Connection Box to the Telstra Business Smart Modem using the cable with red and yellow ends (WAN port on modem).
- Connect the Telstra Business Smart Modem to its power adaptor.
- If you are connecting a phone, use the Optional Cable (with grey ends) to connect your phone to the Telstra Business Smart Modem's LAN port. Ensure the yellow ethernet cable is plugged into the LAN port, not the yellow WAN port.

Wi-Fi Setup
Connect your devices to your new Wi-Fi network:
- On your device, search for the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and enter the password provided on your Wi-Fi card.
- Repeat these steps to connect your other devices via Wi-Fi.
You can change your Wi-Fi network name and password later. Refer to page 21 for details.

Troubleshooting
Common Issues and Tips
If you encounter problems, try these steps:
- Switch the modem off and then back on after a few minutes.
- Ensure your modem is elevated and not near potential interference sources like refrigerators, thick walls, fish tanks, or microwaves.
- Verify that your Netgear LTE Modem LM1200 is plugged in to ensure continuous service during nbn™ faults.
Understanding Modem Lights
Telstra Business Smart Modem™ Front Light Indicators:
- Connected to nbn™ network: Indicator is on.
- Connected to mobile backup: Indicator is on.
- Ready for calls: Indicator is on.
Netgear LTE Modem LM1200 Lights:
LED | Description |

Power | The modem is starting up. / The modem is powered on. / Device error. |
Ethernet LAN | A device is connecting to this port. / A device is connected to this port. |
Ethernet WAN | A device is connected to this port. / Full data connectivity. |

nbn™ FTTP Connection Box Lights:
- Update: Your nbn™ Connection Box has failed to download software.
- Alarm: Your nbn™ Connection Box has a fault and is not working normally.
- Optical Indicator: Your nbn™ Connection Box has lost connection with the fibre network.
nbn™ HFC Connection Box Lights:
- Power: Indicates power is available.
- Downstream: Indicates connection is ready to download data.
- Upstream: Indicates connection is ready to upload data.
- Online: Indicates nbn™ network connecting.
nbn™ Fixed Wireless Connection Box Lights:
- Power Indicator: Green (Power on), No Power (Check connection).
- Status Indicator: Green flashing (Normal operation), Green (Device in test mode), Amber flashing (Device starting up), Solid Red (System fault).
- Outdoor Unit Indicator: Green (Online), Green flashing (Activity), Red (Offline), Red flashing (Error).
- Signal Indicator: Red (Low signal strength), Amber (Medium signal strength), Green (High signal strength).
Connection Port Check
If your nbn™ service is not working, try connecting your Telstra Business Smart Modem to UNI-D ports 2-4 on the nbn™ Connection Box, as port 1 is most common. Allow 60 seconds for the new port to become active.

Will I be able to use my devices during setup?
During setup, you may temporarily lose access to existing services like internet, phone, medical alarms, fire alarms, security alarms, and EFTPOS machines. It is recommended to have an alternative communication method, such as a charged mobile phone, available.
What happens to the nbn™ Connection Box and other equipment if I move?
All nbn™-supplied equipment is owned by nbn™ and must not be removed from the premises.
I rely on a safety-critical device. Do I need to do anything before I install the nbn™?
If you use a medical alarm, fire alarm, or lift emergency phone, contact your device provider to confirm compatibility with the nbn™ service. You may need an alternative solution, such as a wireless/mobile alarm. Register these devices with nbn™ by calling 1800 227 300 or visiting nbnco.com.au/compatibility.
Will my monitored security alarm work on my new nbn™ connection?

Will my devices work during a power blackout?
Devices connected to your nbn™ service will not operate during a power blackout. Consider having an alternative communication method, like a charged mobile phone. For safety-critical devices, consult your provider about backup solutions to maintain service during outages.
How do I change my Wi-Fi network and password?
The default Wi-Fi details are unique and secure. To change them:
- Ensure you are connected to your network.
- Open a browser and navigate to mymodem or 192.168.15.1.
- Log in using the username 'admin' and password 'telstra' (these can also be changed).
- Navigate to the 'Wi-Fi' tab.
- Click 'Save' after making your changes.
