Thermokon JOY SR Fancoil Thermostats

Technical Datasheet for JOY SR 5DO, EC AO2DO, and EC 3AO RS485 Modbus Fancoil Thermostats

Product Overview

The Thermokon JOY SR series offers advanced electronic fancoil thermostats designed for controlling fan coil units in 2- and 4-pipe systems. These thermostats feature a modern design with a 2.5" LCD display and a touch interface, providing intuitive operation and parameter adjustment. They support up to 3 time channels, each with 4 time segments, allowing for customized comfort schedules. The devices are designed for installation in standard flush-mounted boxes.

Available models include:

These products are intended for use in building automation systems and transmit sensor data wirelessly via EnOcean. They do not transmit personal data or location data and cannot communicate directly with the internet.

Safety Information

ATTENTION: Installation and mounting of electrical devices must be performed by authorized electricians only. Modifications to the device are prohibited. Devices must not be used for purposes that endanger human health or safety. Ensure power is disconnected before connecting devices.

CAUTION: Risk of electric shock! Internal components may be live. Contact with live parts can cause injury, especially in mains voltage operated devices (90-265 V).

Always adhere to applicable laws, norms, regulations, and the technical state of the art.

Model Specifics

JOY Fancoil 5DO

JOY Fancoil EC AO2DO

JOY Fancoil EC 3AO

Note on Voltage Supply: When powering multiple bus devices from a single 24V AC supply, ensure all positive (+) and negative (-) voltage supply inputs are connected in phase.

Mounting Instructions

Sensor accuracy is influenced by positioning and mounting. Avoid mounting near drafts, heat sources, direct sunlight, or in niches.

Ensure flush-mounted boxes are sealed. For hollow walls, consider using white flush-mounted boxes (e.g., Kaiser 9063-77) to prevent the support ring from being visible.

Connection Diagrams

Detailed connection diagrams are provided for JOY Fancoil 5DO, EC AO2DO, and EC 3AO models, illustrating terminal assignments for fan stages, heating/cooling outputs, digital inputs, and Modbus communication.

Note: Parallel connection of potential-actuated inputs is not permitted.

Function Description - Controller / Fan Stages

Fan stages are linked to the controller in automatic mode. The assignment of fan stages to heating/cooling modes is configurable. The device allows for a ramp-up time for the fan to ensure safe startup. Time channels and segments define fan control behavior. User overrides are possible via the device interface.

User Interface and Operation

The touch interface allows for setpoint and fan stage adjustments. The power button ring provides feedback. Pressing buttons for 3 seconds returns the display to the main screen.

Standby Mode: Disables display and outputs, but frost and heat protection remain active. Modbus registers remain accessible.

Navigation: Use directional buttons to navigate menus. The right button opens submenus, and the up/left buttons exit.

Diagnostic Menu: Accessible by marking the header in the parameter menu and pressing ENTER. Provides information on device type, software version, and I/O status.

Parameter Menu - Modbus Interface

Access the Modbus parameter menu by pressing the 'up' (A) and 'down' (C) buttons simultaneously for at least 5 seconds. The menu is unlocked for the first 60 minutes after power-on, or until the first active Modbus communication. Default password: 2030.

Modbus Settings: Address (1-247), Baud Rate (9600, 19200, 38400, 57600), Parity (None, Odd, Even).

Configuration via uConfig / MicroSD Card / Modbus

The JOY Room Thermostat can be parameterized using the uConfig software. Configuration files created with uConfig can be transferred to the device via SD card. Live configuration is also possible via the BUS interface for BUS devices.

Configuration Software: uConfig requires Windows 10. The installer and necessary plug-ins are available for download from the Thermokon website.

Parameter Menu Structure: Includes Time Channels, Date/Time, Sensor Settings, General Settings, EnOcean List, and EnOcean Configuration.

SAB Function Overview

The system supports up to 6 SAB (Actuator) channels, with one configurable for a 'Bad' (bathroom) function. Other channels can be used for heating or cooling. A setpoint offset can be configured via Modbus for SAB channels.

Function Profiles:

Inputs

Up to 2 inputs can be configured for various functions:

Dimensions

Detailed dimensions are provided in millimeters.

Optional Accessories

Available accessories include flush-mount frames (white/black), decorative frames (white/black), a 2GB MicroSD card, RS485 Biasing Adapter, USB RS485 Modbus RTU Logger, and a USB-RS485 interface with drivers.

Disposal Information

The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol indicates that the product and its removable batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. Users are obligated to dispose of the product separately according to national laws. Contact your supplier or Thermokon Sensortechnik GmbH for proper disposal.
