Assembly Instructions

Assemble on a soft surface, like a carpet, to avoid scratching the furniture. Ensure all parts are accounted for before starting. If you encounter difficulties, contact IKEA customer service.

General Assembly Overview

The PLATSA system allows for various configurations. The following steps describe the assembly of a basic unit and its wall attachment. Tools typically required include a screwdriver (Phillips head) and potentially a tape measure and pencil for wall mounting.

Step 1: Constructing the Main Frame

Take two side panels and the base panel. Insert dowels (Part 10046332) into the pre-drilled holes on the side panels. Align the side panels with the base panel and secure them using screws (Part 114142) with the provided Allen key (Part 10101633). Ensure the connections are firm and the panels are flush. Repeat this process to attach the second side panel to the base.

Step 2: Attaching the Back Panels

Carefully slide the textured back panels into the grooves located on the inner edges of the side and base panels. Once in place, secure the back panels by inserting screws (Part 194732) through the pre-drilled holes on the back edges of the side and base panels into the back panels.

Step 3: Securing the Top Panel

Position the top panel onto the assembled frame. From the underside of the top panel, insert screws (Part 114142) through the designated holes and into the top edges of the side panels. Use washers (Part 10128309) with these screws for added stability.

Step 4: Inserting Shelves

Place the shelves inside the frame at your desired height. The shelves are designed to rest on the internal supports or shelf pins within the unit.

Step 5: Prepare for Wall Mounting

The PLATSA unit must be secured to the wall to prevent tipping. The necessary wall attachment brackets are provided. These brackets are typically attached to the top rear of the unit. The specific placement and type of bracket may vary depending on whether the unit is assembled upright or horizontally.

Step 6: Secure the Unit to the Wall

IMPORTANT: Wall screws and plugs are NOT included. You must use screws and plugs that are appropriate for your specific wall type (e.g., drywall, concrete, wood). If you are unsure, consult a professional.

Attach the wall brackets to the rear of the PLATSA unit using the provided screws (e.g., Part 10044713, 10100447, 10128308). Position the unit against the wall where you intend to place it. Mark the drilling locations on the wall through the holes in the brackets. Drill holes into the wall at the marked locations and insert suitable wall plugs. Finally, secure the unit to the wall by driving screws through the brackets into the wall plugs. A "Click!" sound may indicate the bracket is properly engaged.

Step 7: Stacking Units (Optional)

The PLATSA system is modular and can be stacked. To stack units, use the provided connecting hardware (e.g., Part 10042534) to join them securely. Align the units and use the connecting pieces to fasten them together, ensuring stability. The maximum recommended stacking height for PLATSA units is 300 cm (118 7/64 inches).

Step 8: Final Checks

Ensure all screws are tightened and the unit is stable. Verify that the wall attachment is secure.
