Product Overview
This document provides assembly and installation instructions for the IKEA HORNVALLMO pleated blind.
Important Information Regarding Wall Fixings
As wall materials vary significantly, screws for fixing the blind to the wall are not included in the package. For advice on selecting suitable screw systems and wall plugs appropriate for your specific wall type, please consult your local specialized hardware dealer.
Tools Required
The following tools are recommended for installation:
- ? Tape measure
- ? Utility knife
- ? Hacksaw
Parts List
Please check that you have all the parts before starting assembly:
- Pleated blind fabric (main component)
- 4x Wall brackets (Part ID: 10092482)
- 4x Top rail end caps
- 1x Bottom rail end cap
- 1x Cord mechanism component
- 1x Allen key (Part ID: 112830)
- 2x Guide rail components
- 1x Mounting bracket (labeled A)
- 1x Mounting bracket (labeled B)
- 1x Cord guide (labeled C)
Assembly and Installation Steps
Step 1: Assemble Mounting Brackets
Align bracket A and bracket B, then slide them together until they interlock.
Step 2: Prepare Mounting Bracket
Manipulate the assembled bracket as indicated by curved arrows, likely to open it or set it for attachment.
Step 3: Measure Window Width
Measure the width of the window frame where the blind will be installed. This measurement is denoted as 'X' in millimeters and inches.
Step 4: Cut Rod to Size
Attach a guide rail component (B) to a rod. Use a hacksaw to cut the rod to the required length 'X', matching the window width.
Step 5: Determine Blind Width
The effective width of the blind fabric ('W') is determined by the measured width 'X'.
Step 6: Pleated Blind Fabric
The main component, the pleated blind fabric, is shown.
Step 7: Prepare Rail and Determine Cord Length
Insert the cut rod into a bracket. A table is provided to determine the value 'N' (ranging from 0 to 16) based on the blind width 'W' (in mm and inches). This 'N' value likely corresponds to cord length or adjustment points.
Step 8: Mark Rail for Bracket Placement
Attach a bracket to the rail. Use a measuring tape and marking tool to indicate positions on the rail according to the determined 'N' value.
Step 9: Attach Brackets and Slide Fabric
Attach bracket B to the rail. Then, carefully slide the pleated blind fabric into the rail system.
Step 10: Insert Fabric into Rail
⚠️ Caution: Carefully slide the blind fabric into the rail. Ensure fingers are kept clear to avoid pinching.
Step 11: Mark Top of Blind
Measure 100 mm (4 inches) down from the top edge of the blind fabric and mark this position.
Step 12: Attach Components to Fabric and Rail
Attach the prepared components (likely end caps or cord guides) to the blind fabric at the marked position. Then, attach these components to the main rail system.
Step 13: Attach Rail to Window Frame
⚠️ Caution: Attach the assembled rail to the window frame. Ensure it is securely fastened.
Step 14: Secure Brackets
Detailed view shows the process of securing the mounting brackets to the blind's rail using screws (8 screws are indicated).
Step 15: Position Blind and Ensure Clearance
ℹ️ Information: Position the blind within the window frame. Ensure a minimum clearance of 6 mm (1/4 inch) is maintained between the blind and the frame for proper operation.
Step 16: Clean Window Frame
Clean the window frame thoroughly before proceeding with the final installation steps.
Step 17: Final Attachment and Securing
Attach the blind to the frame. The close-up shows a mechanism engaging, which requires approximately 10 seconds to fully secure the blind.
Alternative Mounting Methods
The following steps illustrate alternative methods for mounting the blind, potentially for different window types or installation preferences (e.g., inside vs. outside mount).
Alternative Mounting - Method A (Pages 16-17)
This method involves attaching wall brackets (4x) to the window frame or wall first. The blind's rail is then attached to these pre-mounted brackets. A close-up shows the securing mechanism engaging, requiring approximately 10 seconds to lock.
Alternative Mounting - Method B (Pages 18-19)
This method shows attaching specific brackets to the blind's rail, which are then used to slide or clip the entire blind assembly into the window frame or mounting system.
Operation and Final Warnings
To operate the blind, use the cords to raise or lower it.
⚠️ Warning: Do not pull the blind down past its lowest possible position, as this may cause damage.
