Shanling M1s Quick Start Guide
Safety Instructions
- Do not repair, disassemble, or modify the device without permission.
- Avoid using the device in extremely hot, cold, dusty, or humid environments. Do not expose to liquids.
- The device may become warm during charging, which is normal.
- Prevent the device from falling, friction, or impact with hard objects to avoid surface scratches, battery disconnection, data loss, or hardware damage. Avoid violent vibration or impact.
- Enjoy music at a proper volume to protect your hearing and the sound system. Lower the volume before plugging in headphones.
- Do not clean the device with chemicals or detergents, as this may damage the surface and coating.
- Do not disconnect the device during formatting or file transfer to prevent program errors.
- The USB port is for data transmission or charging. Avoid using the device while charging.
- When not in use for extended periods, charge the device regularly to maintain battery life.
- Improper battery replacement can cause explosion; use only batteries of the same type or equivalent.
- Never expose the battery to sunlight, fire, or extremely hot environments.
- Use a power adapter that has CCC certification and meets standard requirements.
- Download firmware updates from the official Shanling website and follow the instructions.

Device Layout:
- Front View: Play/Pause button, Previous selection button, Next selection button, 2.8 inch touch screen (640 x 480).
- Side View (Left): Micro SD card slot, Type-C USB data port.
- Side View (Right): Power/Lock button, Volume control wheel.
- Bottom View: 3.5mm Headphone/Line output/Coaxial SPDIF Output, 4.4mm Balanced Headphone output.

Operation Instructions
Power ON / OFF / Screen Locking
- Power On: Press and hold the power button for 2 seconds. The screen will light up and enter the startup interface.
- Power Off: Press and hold the power button for 2 seconds. A confirmation prompt will appear. Tap "Confirm" to shut down the device.
- Screen Lock: While the device is powered on, short press the power button to enter the lock screen state. The display will automatically turn off. Press the power button again to wake up the device and turn on the display.
Screen Orientation
According to personal preference, go to "System Settings" - "System & Update" - "Screen Rotation Settings" to select 0 or 180 degree orientation.
Previous / Next / Play & Pause
- Previous << : Short press to select and play the previous song. Long press for fast rewind.
- Next >> : Short press to select and play the next song. Long press for fast forward.
- Play & Pause >II : Short press to play or pause playback.
Volume Control
Turn the volume control wheel to increase or decrease the volume.
Charging
It is recommended to use a DC5V 2A adapter for charging. The charging icon and battery level will be displayed on the screen when charging via USB cable.
Micro SD Card Port
- Supports standard Micro SD cards with a capacity up to 2TB.
- Insert the Micro SD card into the slot in the indicated direction and press gently until it locks. Press again to remove the card.
Headphone Output Interface
The device is equipped with 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced headphone jacks. Please select the appropriate jack based on your headphone plug for listening to music.
USB Port
1. Data Exchanging
- After booting up, go to "System Settings" and select "USB Mode", then set it to "USB" status.
- Connect to a computer to manage songs on the TF card.
- After disconnecting from the computer, go to "System Settings", select "Update Library", and choose "Scan music now". This will display the songs on the TF card in the "All Songs" list.
2. Digital Audio Signal Transmission
- After booting up, go to "System Settings" and select "USB Mode", then set it to "DAC" status. Return to the main interface.
- Before connecting to the computer, install the USB Driver on your computer (MAC computers do not require additional drivers).

Firmware Update
- Ensure the device has sufficient battery charge before updating firmware to avoid failed updates.
- Do not operate the device during the update process.
OTA Online Update
Enable WiFi and connect to an available network. Navigate to "System Settings" - "System & Update" - "System Update" - "Network Update" to perform the update.
Micro SD Card Update
- Download the firmware update file from the Shanling official website. Copy the firmware file to the root directory of the Micro SD card.
- In "System Settings", select "System & Update" - "System Update" - "TF card update". An update selection box will appear. Press "Enter" to update the firmware.
Common Problems
- It is recommended to use a DC5V 2A adapter. Using an adapter with excessive voltage may damage the device.
- If the device cannot be turned on, the battery may be low or depleted. Please charge it and try again.
- If the device is unresponsive or frozen, press and hold the "Power" button for about 10 seconds to force a shutdown, then power it on normally.
- If there is noise from the headphones, the headphone jack may not be properly connected. Re-insert the headphone plug.
- If there is no sound, try using a different pair of headphones or cable, and ensure the system volume is set correctly. Also, check if the music file is intact.

MQA Technology
MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) is an award-winning British technology that delivers the sound of the original master recording. The master MQA file is fully authenticated and is small enough to stream or download.
The M1s includes MQA technology, enabling playback of MQA audio files and streams, delivering the sound of the original master recording. The "Now Playing" screen shows a green or blue dot next to the MQA logo to indicate decoding and playback of an MQA stream or file, denoting provenance. A blue dot indicates an MQA Studio file, approved by the artist/producer or verified by the copyright owner. A magenta dot in USB mode confirms reception of an MQA stream or file, delivering the final unfold of the MQA file and displaying the original sample rate.
