Shanling M3X Quick Start Guide
Safety Instructions
Please read the following safety instructions carefully before using the device:
- Do not attempt to repair, disassemble, or modify the device without authorization.
- Avoid using the device in extremely hot, cold, dusty, or humid environments. Keep away from liquids.
- The device may become warm during charging, which is normal.
- Prevent the device from falling, friction, or impact against hard objects. This can cause surface scratches, battery disconnection, data loss, or other hardware damage. Avoid violent vibration or impact.
- Enjoy music at a suitable volume to protect your hearing and the sound system. Lower the volume before plugging in headphones.
- Do not clean the device with chemicals or detergents, as this may damage the surface and coating.
- Do not disconnect the device during formatting or file transfer to prevent program errors.
- The USB port is for data transmission and charging only. Avoid using the device while it is charging.
- If the device is not used for a long period, charge it regularly to maintain battery life.
- Replace the battery only with the same type or equivalent. Improper replacement may pose an explosion risk.
- Never expose the battery to fire, direct sunlight, or extremely hot environments.
- Use a certified DC5V 2A adapter for charging. Using adapters with higher voltage may damage the device.

Names of Parts
The Shanling M3X features a user-friendly design with accessible controls and ports:
Device Layout:
- Top View: Features the Micro SD card slot and the Type-C USB data port.
- Front/Left Side View: Includes the Power/Lock button, Volume control wheel, and a Status indicator light.
- Front/Right Side View: Displays the 4.2-inch touch screen (768x1280 resolution) and three control buttons: Previous selection button (∧), Play/Pause button (>II), and Next selection button (∨).
- Bottom View: Equipped with a 3.5mm Headphone/Line output and a 4.4mm Balanced Headphone output.
Accessing Micro SD Card
Follow these steps to insert or remove a Micro SD card:
- Push on the left corner of the Micro SD card cover; the cover will pop out.
- Slowly pull the cover outwards.
- Twist the cover out of the way to access the Micro SD card slot. Insert or remove the card as needed.
Operation Instructions
Power ON / OFF / Screen Locking
- Power On: Press and hold the power button for 2 seconds. The status indicator will light up, and the device will turn on.
- Power Off: Press and hold the power button for 2 seconds. A selection window will appear with "Power Off" and "Restart" options. Select "Power Off" to shut down the device.
- Screen Lock: While the device is powered on, briefly press the power button to lock the screen and turn off the display. Press the power button again to unlock the device and wake the screen.
Navigation Bar
You can enable a navigation bar in Settings > Display > Virtual Key Mode:
- ◁: Return to the previous screen.
- ○: Back to the main screen (Home).
- □: Multitasking view.
Gesture / Floating Ball Operation
Choose your preferred navigation method:
- Gesture Mode:
- Return to Previous: Slide from the left edge to the right, or from the right edge to the left across the screen.
- Back to Main Screen: Slide up from the bottom of the screen.
- Multitasking: Slide up from the bottom of the screen and hold your finger on the display.
- Floating Ball Mode:
- Return to Previous: Click the floating ball on the screen.
- Back to Main Screen: Press and hold the floating ball on the screen.
- Multitasking: Double-click the floating ball on the screen.
Previous / Next / Play & Pause
- Previous (∧): Short press to jump to the previous song or the beginning of the current song. Long press for fast rewind.
- Next (∨): Short press to jump to the next song. Long press for fast forward.
- Play/Pause (>II): Short press to play or pause music playback.
Volume Control
Turn the volume control wheel clockwise to increase volume and counterclockwise to decrease volume.
Charging
The M3X supports QC3.0 fast charge and standard USB charging. When connected via USB, the display shows the battery charging icon and power level. The status indicator lights up red while charging and turns off when the battery is full.
Micro SD Card Port
- The port supports standard Micro SD cards up to 2TB capacity.
- Open the Micro SD card cover, insert the card into the slot in the indicated direction, and press gently until it locks. Press again to remove the card.
Firmware Update
- Ensure the M3X is fully charged before updating the firmware to prevent failure.
- Do not operate the player during the update process.
Over-the-Air (OTA) Update
When connected to a Wi-Fi network, the device automatically checks for new firmware. To manually check, navigate to Menu > Technical Support > Firmware Update > Online Update, and select "Check for Update".
Micro SD Card Update
- Download the firmware update from Shanling's official website. Copy the latest firmware file to the root directory of your Micro SD card.
- Navigate to Menu > Technical Support > Firmware Update > Local Update, select the firmware file, and click update.
Common Problems
- Device not starting: Ensure the battery is sufficiently charged. If the battery is low or depleted, charge the device and try again.
- System freezing or crashing: Press and hold the power button for 12 seconds to force a shutdown. To power on after a forced shutdown, press and hold the power button for 12 seconds again.
- Headphone noise: The headphone output jack may not be properly connected. Try re-inserting the headphone plug.
- No sound output: Try using a different pair of headphones or cable. Ensure the system volume is set correctly and that the music files are not corrupted.
- Charging issues: It is recommended to use a DC5V 2A adapter. Using an adapter with a higher voltage may damage the M3X.

MQA (Master Quality Authenticated)
The M3X player includes MQA technology, enabling playback of MQA audio files and streams for the original master recording sound. The player's LED indicates MQA status: glows green for decoding and playing an MQA stream/file, denoting provenance. It glows blue for MQA Studio files, which have been approved in the studio by the artist/producer or verified by the copyright owner.
